Vienna 2.0.2.2030 (Mac OS X)

Easy to use in Tiger

I find Vienna to be a simple yet sophistocated news reader. I especially appreciate its built-in browser, which opens up the story directly on the website for easy viewing. Adding RSS links is actually very easy if you are running 10.4.x: -- First, select Vienna as your default news reader by going into Safari's preferences. Click on the "RSS" tab and select Vienna in the drop-down box. -- Then, just use Safari to go to the site you want to get your feed from. Click on the appropriate RSS feed button, and viola, the feed will appear in Vienna. I had problems adding feeds in the older version and when I was using 10.3.9. The new version of Safari in 10.4 makes it all happen smoothly. So: 5 stars if you're using Tiger, and 3 stars if you're using Panther. [alert admin]

Butler 4.0b29 (Mac OS X)

What did I do without it?

This app integrates the functions of several other separate applications I had been using, and does all of them better. The customizable search window, the menu for System Preferences, and the universal browser bookmarks menu alone are worth installing it. It runs smoothly and never causes a problem. I have barely scratched the surface of what it can do. Butler makes my PowerBook easier to use and it does it elegently. What more can I ask? [alert admin]

PuzzleGetter 0.8 (Mac OS X)

Check developer site

This very simple app has been updated, but you must go to the developer's site to find the separate versions for 10.3 and 10.4. The Post link is still nonfunctional, but that's the Post's doing, not the developer's. Within its limitations, this is a wonderful app. [alert admin]
