Dud

The download never takes place. The developer's site only loads a blank page that says: "Welcome". [alert admin]

Poisoned 0.519 (Mac OS X)

Problematic

Poisoned runs into trouble all too often. As recently as last December it would crash at launch, something that was fixed with an update. A new problem surfaced this year-only the Gnutella client works. On certain configurations, FastTrack and Ares show 0 users and files. As for downloading and uploading, my experience is abysmal, and apparenlty I am not the exception. Uploading never works. Not a single file of mine has ever been uploaded. Assuming Poisoned works at all to begin with, downloading is frought with several problems. If a found file has only one "user", it stands very little chance of even been downloaded. The more users a file is associated with, the higher your chances of ever downloading that file. But the worst nightmare is SPAM, fake files. No matter what you search for, 2-6 fake files with multiple users associated with them, bearing similar titles to what you were seeking, will almost always show up. These fakes are JPEG or WMV files (even though what you searched for may have been an MP3 file) that are small in size, and when downloaded, turn out to be SPAM advertising a certain (always the same one) web site. Recently, a worse form of SPAM has reared its ugly head on Poisoned. More fake files show up in queries bearing irrelevant, unspeakably obscene titles. Downloaded, these JPEG files all turn out to be notices offering patronizing advice about your life while urging you to visit a certain get rich-quick-scheme site. Certain files, usually large ones, also exhibit a strange behavior. They never start downloading, and show up as "paused" instead. No matter how many times you try to restart them, they switch to "paused" status again after 2-3 seconds and will continue to do so until the cows come home. [alert admin]

Aladdin Internet Cleanup 1.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Misleading marketing, Abysmal Customer Service

I've been trying for one month just to purchase Internet Cleanup to no avail. I downloaded a demo to try the feature that interested me the most, Spyware remval, but found out that feature is disabled in the demo version. A promo email I received from Aladdin advertises Internet Cleanup for $24.99, but the link takes me to a page to purchase it for $29.99. Sometimes the correct page appears, but the order doesn't go through. My order did not go through because of.. an error! No explanation given. Aladdin took more than 3 weeks to reply (their autoresponders do not count) but after following their insructions I got the same error! Read my thread on this month-long nightmare at the MacCentral 3rd party forums: http://forums.maccentral.com/wwwthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=software&Number=593575&page=0&view=expanded&sb=5&o=14∂= [alert admin]

freePhotoConverter 2.4 (Mac OS X)

Wish list!

The program works great! I already have a wish list for the next version. :-) PhotoConverter Wish List: Let the user create droplets for the most common resolution/image quality combinations he/she uses. Ability to selectively choose to convert, ignore, remove from list or delete individual photos from a list of photos dropped, then perform batch processing on that list. Ability to drag an entire folder (or folders) on the app. As it stands now, I have to open the folder, select all, and drag to the preview area--too many steps. Combine Settings and Preferences in a tabbed interface accessible BOTH as as a menu command AND a window UI. As it is now, Settings is a window UI option, and Preferences is a menu command. Drop 'free' from name of app (but keep it as freeware, lol) :-) [alert admin]

DropJPEG 2.2 (Mac OS X)

Doesn't work at all

The concept is great, but this software doesn't do a thing! I restarted my iMac, tried dragging and dropping on the app icon itself, on an alias of it, on an alias on the dock, tried several screenshot PDFs and one TIFF, but nothing. Not a thing! The app seems to be launching, but I get no interface and no results. It was a complete waste of time. I also tried freePhotoConverter 2 and it works beautifully, plus it resizes photos as well for mailings. [alert admin]

Do you beat your mail-man?

I'd consider beating my mail man if instead of mail he brought me garbage. This has everything to do with Poisoned. I search for AUDIO files and it returns JPEG and WMV (Picture and Video) files, so it qualifies as a PoS.
