Firefoxy 1.5.4 (Mac OS X)
Current version works with FF2
Firefoxy 1.5.4 works fine with FF2. As the widgets haven't changed since 1.5, simply choose the "1.5" option when it prompts you. [alert admin]

RsyncX 2.1 (Mac OS X)
The version of rsync bundled with RsyncX has serious flaws. In certain circumstances, which are not fully known, it can freak out and fill log files with garbage until your hard drive is completely full. In older versions of OS X, all user preferences were wiped out if the boot disk got full, so I think it's reasonable to call this problem "dangerous." There have been repeated questions in the RsyncX forums about this issue, and the developer has said absolutely nothing about it for about a year. This is completely unacceptable. The version of rsync that ships with Tiger is, as of 10.4.2, horribly buggy. As soon as it is fixed I recommend moving away from RsyncX. [alert admin]

If you think Firefox is ugly, try these themes and these widgets. [alert admin]

If you think Firefox's widgets are ugly and "Windows-like," try Firefoxy. [alert admin]

Mozilla Firefox 0.9 (Mac OS X)
The theme is still Pinstripe; only 4 icons have changed. At this point, those of you who hate those icons have three choices: 1. Accept the new ones, 2. Fix the icons yourself by modifying the resources or whatever, or 3. Ask the author of Pinstripe to release the old version as a separate theme. But you stand little-to-no chance of getting the old icons back as default. Just check out this bugzilla entry and you'll get an idea why. [alert admin]

DVD Juggler 1.0.3 (Mac OS X)
I don't know why there are so few free DVD cataloging apps out there. Personally, I can't imagine spending money on something like this. Until now, I'd been using DVD Attache, which is free, of course, but is a Java app and is quite clunky. DVD Juggler, on the other hand, is great! It has a clean, Mac-like interface and was rock-solid for the couple minutes I spent inputting my DVDs. I'd like to see search capability for other Amazons (UK, JP, etc.) in future versions. I just got a response to my bug report about the volume key problem. According to this page they now (as of today!) consider this to be a known issue. I guess that's progress.
Other than the volume key issue, I've found my Keyspan DMR to be a very nice gadget. I bought it for a presentation I have to give two days from now. Hopefully it will pass the test.

VLC media player 0.7.2-test2 (Mac OS X)
VLC went from about 20MB to 40MB with this release. Why is that? I think I'll wait for things to cool down before upgrading. [alert admin]

I have been in contact with this user by email, and he is referring to drawing problems with the new experimental Aqua widgets introduced in the trunk builds. This is not a Firefoxy issue.

SEND ME AN EMAIL. If you don't send me a test case, I can't get the problem fixed. Complaining on VT does nothing.

Shinyubin can't include cho or banchi information because any given zipcode may include a large number of cho's (and therefore banchi's, etc.). Shinyubin includes only the information that is guaranteed to be correct for all addresses in a given zipcode.

I'd be willing to consider implementing auto-updating. But what kind do you mean? It would be very easy to check for a newer version <em>when you run Firefoxy,<em> but if you want something that will keep your widgets up-to-date even without running Firefoxy, then you should look for someone to make an extension for that. In fact, that's a pretty good idea. I'd take up the challenge myself if it weren't…

A stupid typo prevented the widget files from being copied correctly. I've just posted 1.4.2, which fixes the problem. Sorry about that!

If you look at the filesize closely, you should find that PNGCrusher made the file slightly smaller than the others. If you're using this graphic on a website, every little bit can make a difference, but if not then maybe you wouldn't care. True, PNGCrusher just replaces your original file. However, that was kind of the point. I hate having to replace the original files with the optimized ones. Since the files…

Actually that's not quite right. I took a look at his code, and found that there are 3 major differences:
1) PNGCrushrrr is written in Python instead of Bash
2) PNGCrushrrr calls pngcrusher with the -brute option, which makes it significantly slower without much improvement in compression
3) PNGCrushrrr doesn't replace your original files.
Python vs. Bash doesn't make any difference for an app this small, and the other two points are moot now…
