Rock Star 1.1 (Mac OS X)

FSS Sold to illumineX

http://nslog.com/2005/07/12/fss_sold_to_illuminex For those who haven't figured it out by now, I've sold Freshly Squeezed Software to Don Yacktman and Gary Longsine of illumineX. The sale actually occurred two months ago, but this week the domain names (and thus the web site and email) will be moved, completing the transition. I cannot comment thoroughly on their plans for the company or its products, but last I heard they were planning to keep all of the products actively updated. PulpFiction 1.2.2 has been ready for quite some time, so I hope to see its release soon. The FSS "brand" should continue to exist - illumineX will also continue as a games company (Rock Star may move over to illumineX) - and that makes me happy. Don and Gary know their stuff, and they've been writing Cocoa applications for a looooooong time. Since, y'know, before it was called Cocoa. I'm confident that FSS will continue to thrive under Don and Gary's leadership and skill. I'll still be involved with software and web development on the Mac. I can't say what I've been working on in the past two months or in the coming months, but it involves things near and dear to my heart. I still have some consulting gigs floating around, and I'm loosely involved in a few projects that will show a product by the end of the year. Please note that comments here will be tightly monitored. There's no need for congratulations, unless you wish to congratulate Don and Gary on getting such a great deal (they did!). There's also no need for smart-aleck remarks, comments about other software, etc. To answer a few questions before they are asked, I sold FSS because the company was in good health and selling products well. Additionally, the long hours (support requests at 11:30pm, Andy living in Austria and Brad in Arizona, etc.) aren't conducive to family life. [alert admin]

CNET TechTracker app 1.0 beta 2 (Mac OS X)

Do they just don't get it?

Does cnet just not understand that we don't like what they're doing with the techtracker sites? I feel like we are on a downhill slope with no brakes heading for a railway crossing and no turning back. I will not use download.com, it's just crap. Download AppFresh instead. [alert admin]

CoverFlow 1.997 (Mac OS X)

Seen it around still?

I really liked the standalone version and would love to still have it, didn't see this last quick update without the expiry date. Anyone seen this last version hosted anywhere? Cheers, aj. [alert admin]

StuffIt Expander 9.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Great product

Sorry that some are having problems, but this has been a good build for me. Haven't crashed. The thing that I have found is that most of the things are solved when you archive and reinstall the OS. There are so many great features in this program, the problem with me is that I don't remember to use half of them. [alert admin]

Capacity Meter 1.1 (Mac OS X)

This version is even better.

I love the custom value field... now I can make my battery look like it is at full capacity. hee hee. Just kidding but it is a nice feature for using the extended life batteries which I think I will purchase next. Would like a way to track multiple batteries, but this still does the job for me. Well done. [alert admin]

Capacity Meter 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Ranks high in my (Power)books!

Not sure what is the problem with your computer, but perhaps you were just reading it wrong. The capacity % is not for the charge, it is how much charge the battery is able to fully charge as opposed to when it was brand new. So 100% Capacity battery with a 100% charge means the battery is at its best. But a 12% capacity at 100% charge means your battery will only give you 12% discharge time.... 50% charge is only 6% of the overall charge. My laptop battery is now at 72% with currently a 99% charge. Hope that helps. -aj [alert admin]

Griffin iTrip 2.0 (Mac OS X)

maybe they are better recordings of the pulses?

Perhaps some iTrips were having a problem with the recordings? Which is why if it works they say, you don't need to upgrade. Just my guess. [alert admin]

Spell Catcher X 10.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Thunderous! Best as always.

This is the best Spell Checker there is out there. Been my staple since Thunder7. Finally we have a Canadian dictionary too. [alert admin]

WinSwitch 1.1 (Mac OS X)

error on install...

The installation could not be completed because there was an error while executing the script "/Users/justinlundy/Desktop/Downloads/WinSwitch 1.1/Install WinSwitch 1.1.app/Contents/Resources/activate-menu-extras.sh".
I think this is due to the fact that some of us already have a menu-enabler hack installed. WinSwitch should check for this. Does it? Cheers, Andrew. [alert admin]

NOT 64-bit at all!

Exactly, the main thing is that you can use it without worrying as much about messing up your computer instead of fixing it. I think that was the immediate need, wasn't that? I'm quite willing to wait for 64-bit compatibility in exchange for getting my hard drive out of the dumpster, now. Cheers, ajung.

Ditto on the Vancouver thing. :)

Vancouver seems to have the tightest stacked FM spectrum I've ever seen. You've not only got the stations from Vancouver (Lower Mainland) but from Victoria (Vancouver Island), and Seattle and Bellingham Washington. I could not find anything to turn into for the car radio... at home it is okay, guess the walls shield some of them. If any find a clear station (for now...) for Vancouver, post it please.

Few actually use 10.2!

Agreed. I find that 10.2 is a lot faster than 10.1 on our iMac. (a grape one at that.) Oh well...
