Fast DVD Copy 3.6 (Mac OS X)
Seeming Sound Software, while it worked... ![]()

I purchased this software on Jul 01, 2008 via a MacZot special and used it for almost a year with pretty good success. However, last month all the sudden the website (http://www.fastdvdcopy.com/) completely disappeared?! And since the software must contact their Server to verify the validity of it's own Serial Number, the software has become unusable. Mine worked flawlessly until I moved my programs to a (cloned) larger harddrive, and then it started acting up. It would not automatically eject the DVD (or CD) once it had read the source, and sometimes it would fail to complete the burning of the target disk. I contacted the vendor and was told to try reinstalling the program again, but before I could do so their WEBSITE disappeared. So the software will no longer function now as it should. [alert admin]

HiFijack 1.3 (Mac OS X)
No bells & whistles here, just the brass tacks of quick & easy downloading a SONG you want. It's really a beautifully implemented application, simple & sweet. I plugged in Jimmy Buffet and it instantly found Margaritaville. Listed to a few bars then hit the iTunes button to download it. Next I plugged in 2525 as the title, and low & behold it found the Zager & Evans In the year 2525 as well. No it won't give you a listing of ALL of a particular artist's hits, but if you KNOW what song you want it's just a click or two to have it D/L'd into your iTunes Library! [alert admin]

AppMenuBoy 1.0 (Mac OS X)
I LIKE IT! Wondered if something like this existed or not, then after a little searching on Google turned up this application. Saves me the effort of opening FINDER, Selecting Applications, Then perusing through folders & sub-folders hunting for what I want to start. KUDOS on a well-done program! [alert admin]

Decompose 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)
Never having used ANYthing like this before, I was quite impressed by it's capabilities and results. HINT: Read their Tutorial and save yourself learning how to use the program the hard way. I messed around with it for about an hour on my own with varied results, before I finally did. In just a few minutes I had astounding results. I tried doing a bicycle first (difficult), then gave up and tried a picture of a dog (easy) on my back steps. Bicycle - 1 hr invested with fair results.(actually better than I expected though) Dog - 10mins invested with a superior image to show for it! Took me a little to get used to the available TOOLS (paint brush, fill, wand, etc), but I've never even used the MS-Paint program in the past for more than half-an-hour. Anyway, once I understood what they each did and finally realized what 'contour' was, things snapped into place very quickly. My only complaints would be: 1)MUST have a GRAB hand to move around the zoomed in image. As it is, they rely on top/side slider bars and you really put the mileage on a mouse going back and forth to them all the time. 2)The Zoom feature is REALLY touchy. Would be nice if the Zoom Slider when all the way across the bottom of the screen for an easier adjustment, or perhaps have 2 Zoom Sliders.(i.e. a fine control & a rough control for image size) Anyway even with those two small issues, I just bought the program via MacZOT for half price today. Without which, I would have NEVER tripped across it. A BARGAIN INDEED, as I know of no other programs out there that are so quick to learn, easy to use, and produce such incredible results for a total novice at this. [alert admin]

or at least until the Developer's Website disappeared?! Now it seems http://www.fastdvdcopy.com always returns the Server not found message. Since the software cannot verify it's own Serial Number validity from the server, it's become useless.

"transparent areas are shown by a totally transparent window so you see the desktop behind, which can be useful but is a little disconcerting at first." Ditto. Personally I would like to see a background option w/o seeing all my other open apps behind the Decompose Screen. It just distracted me to the point I had to minimize all my open windows.

I find it hard to believe anyone could know less about this program than myself. Never having seen, or even heard of it before today, I simply D/L'd, installed, and ran it. Worked fine for me, on a Mac Mini (w/1G RAM) and OS X 10.5.4, certainly nothing fancy. While I had NO CLUE how to use it and probably wasted over an hour trying, that was not the program's fault as their…
