Cisco VPN Client 4.0 (Mac OS X)
Cisco IPSec client extensively with our VPN server and it has always been more reliable than Apple's built-in PPTP-based client. The GUI is a nice bonus. However, I am mystified at why Cisco insists on installing the kext and startup items under the verboten /System, yet happily installs the executables in /usr/local/bin. [alert admin]

XNap 2.5r1 (Mac OS X)
experience finding all kinds of documents with XNap, but the interface is sadly familiar to anyone who's used the various Java-based file sharing appliations. Avoid contextual menus, as they often freeze the interface. Curiously, while so frozen XNap still continues to download and upload, but you can't actually interact with it. I'm using 2.5r1, and I've tried all the look-and-feel options. [alert admin]

Celestia 1.2.5 (Mac OS X)
remarkable program and with this update it offers several improvements, including a much improved interface. However, as the documentation warns, this is a preliminary release. I can't get the contextual menus to work (even with the option key as the readme mentions) and there are also quite a few greyed out menu items. [alert admin]

Metallifizer 1.1 (Mac OS X)
time you install a new app you gotta add it to your list. Not so bad for me, since I demetallifize, but if you like to brush metal everything, it could be a pain. Don't want to get rid of the, er, opt-in option, but I'd like an opt-out setting as well. Otherwise, the haxie works as advertised. Absolutely no problems so far. [alert admin]

SlashDock 2.06 (Mac OS X)
I liked the fish icon better. Why? a) The Simpsons are never wrong. b) I've got lots of items in my dock and the fish's bulging eyes are easier to see than the Think Nerd's spinner. So, I replaced the tiffs. [alert admin]

VPNConnect 1.0b2 (Mac OS X)
works fine, it scares the bejebus out of our users. This GUI is just what we need. About the only thing I'd like to see is the option to quit the client and still maintain the VPN tunnel (a la Internet Connect and PPTP-GUI). [alert admin]

candy coloring, text and menu items are very difficult to read in Mac OS X. [alert admin]

MacSFTP 1.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
but I wish you could turn off strict checking. We've got a storage facility with five round robin sftp servers answering to a single address, but because each has a different key, MacSFTP suspects a man in the middle attack, and refuses connection. [alert admin]

WindowShade X 1.1 (Mac OS X)
I like the minimize feature, WindowShade is a faster way to take a peak at covered windows. There's just one other feature I'd like to see: I'd like to have the option to double-click the menu bar to WindowShade, and still use Cmd-M to minimize to the Dock. [alert admin]
