Amnesty Widget Browser 1.3 (Mac OS X)

widgets move

my weather widgets, which are what I want on my desktop, gradually inch upwards everytime I stop/start amnesty. running more than one iteration of the same widget also requires a workaround which is ridiculous given the price of the app. so I can't recommend this. [alert admin]

PodWorks 2.8.5 (Mac OS X)

project abandoned?

problematic on a MBP, takes forever to load (not intel native), no updates since 2005... what more needs to be said? [alert admin]

VLC media player 0.8.6a (Mac OS X)

0.8.6a slow, crashes

the new version takes forever to load (MBP 2.0MHz 1g), then requires a force quit to end. No more quicktime inspired full screen interface that appears when the mouse is activated... Switched back to 0.8.6. [alert admin]

Tangerine! 1.0 (Mac OS X)

meh

I would probably buy this if it would give me the option of generating a tangerine playlist from a pre-existing playlist or a specific genre of music. As it is, or at least, as it appears to me, the program groups tracks together solely on the basis of BPM and beat intensity, which can lead to some pretty jarring results when there is a large variety of types of music in one's collection. If I want a sequence of BPM organized techno, it would be nice not to have to weed out the jazz and classical tracks by hand from the generated playlist, and vice-versa. Now what would make this app irrisitible well into several update cycles would be configurable generation patterns... [alert admin]

SoftSkies 1.0 (Mac OS X)

nice

The clouds actually move to the music... the interface is beautiful and polished... I could see this in a medical waiting room, or some other environment where soothig music and matching scenery might work... for me it's a bit boring, I'll stick with G-Force... [alert admin]

Snapz Pro X 2.0.3 (Mac OS X)

choppy

I find these two comments somewhat contradictory: -Snapz Pro X 2.0.3 runs without known issues on Intel machines; performance is excellent -Tuned performance to run optimally on single processor machines to avoid sound stuttering while recording movies with sound So given that intel macs are duo processor, doesn't this mean that performance on intel machines is not "excellent"? Video recording was choppy on my 2GHz MBP w/ 1 GB RAM. Much smoother on a 12" 1.5 GHz Powerbook with 512 MB. At least it finally works on intel macs, though. But I would not buy this unless absoluteley necessary until it goes UB. [alert admin]

iAlertU 0.17b (Mac OS X)

image delay

this does not actually immediately take a picture once the alarm is activated, so that there is enough time to close the lid, move out of the way etc. [alert admin]

Bits on Wheels 1.0.6 (Mac OS X)

project dead?

pretty graphics but just not worth running through rosetta on a MBP. switched to Transmission, which manages to be simpler yet more feature rich (auto-stop, download rate limit etc.), and also a UB. have not looked back. [alert admin]

meh

nope, doesn't work... the order of the tracks is not maintained when applying the rules in the smart playlist... applying a tangerine organization to a playlist only is something that logically should be part of the application, and I shouldn't have to arrive at a similar result via the rules in the tangerine! preferences either. I'd be willing to tinker with workarounds, but not at the price they're setting for this incomplete app.

YOU be careful

oh yeah, cause learning the basic concept behind BT is soooo hard... it might burn out all available synapses. there are excellent, non buggy, open source BT clients out there, albeit ones that may require you to <horror> think for a few minutes before running them. come to think of it, i'd really like those minutes back; it'd be so nice to reclaim that precious lost time, and just veg out with a remote in…

So So

hey, what's the problem with the slow updates? at least they have their priorities straight, and are releasing great video games (sketchfighter)! who cares about the rest who paid for their versions of wiretap "pro" or snapz "pro"?
