InstantShot! 2.0 (Mac OS X)

As the product description states: can choose "save to" format, quality level of saved image, save location, startup at login, and much more. Simple, straightforward, very nicely done, IMHO. The Apple keyboard command save-image function is pretty simple, but now saves to PNG only. I had used SnapNDrag a lot also; a nice alternative, but this is even simpler and nicer to use than SnapNDrag, again IMHO. I like being able to do everything from drop-down menu from menubar. Great app - newest revision adds one great feature... ![]()

...and thanks to the developer for that new feature - the ability to save the 3 results' lists with one action. Prior to this version, one had to save the New, Modified, and Removed items' lists separately - not too inconvenient, but this new revision is much nicer. The best app I've found/seen for keeping track of installations; very useful when one wants to uninstall apps that one tried and doesn't want to keep - easy to find all the files that were added upon installation and trash them. Thought I'd boost the 'stars' on this as it seems to be as good as Acquisition and is free. Only used it once (maybe 2x) a few months ago when I first d/l it - seemed to work just fine. Used Acquisition for years, but only once in a blue moon, so my experience with either/both is limited. Everytime I used Acquisition, it had "advanced" by several version numbers, and it always seemed to work ok with each version, and FrostWire seems to do the job just as well. So, 5 stars from me here - as I said, not a lot of usage to base it on, though. But i didn't think the low-star rating was reflecting the real picture for FrostWire. [alert admin]

MoRU 1.3 (Mac OS X)
I visit this site daily, always looking for updates and new helpful, useful applications. I've found many over the years and with that being said, I can't believe how many times I've seen this app on the "Updates" page or maybe in "Search" results and passed it over (probably not really grasping what it truly is and does). So, in the Aug 06 issue of MacWorld, I see the app mentioned and a brief review given - I go online and read the full review http://www.macworld.com/weblogs/macgems/2006/03/moru/index.php and decided that it looked really promising. Wow, was I surprised - I am ready to buy even before I use this thing any more - was ready about one minute after I first started it up. I know that the app does much more than I have used it for at this early stage - only had it installed for a couple of hours - and if you would like more than I can provide and that you can read here from other reviewers, please check out the Macworld link - but just suffice it to say that it truly truly does make ALL the features of Spotlight truly truly usable (and presents a great, very clear GUI that really doesn't need explanation, i.e. manual-reading). The way it allows one to search, and the presentaion of the results, are most wonderful - amazing. Just what I've always wanted! I consider it one of my greatest, if not THE greatest, find in all my looking for software that makes my Mac more pleasant to use. I say go for it - try it - buy it. Heck, buy it twice! [alert admin]

CleanApp 1.3.1 (Mac OS X)
Worked perfectly for me on one use so far... ![]()

...don't know what "issue" the good dr had in earlier post, but I just used this app to delete a beta version of Opera (which had installed a good number of 'attendant' files) and Clean App 1.3.1 removed all of them - I checked against a list of "New" files I had when I first installed Opera 9 beta. Also, as another previous poster noted - "for lazy people"...well, I don't agree with that 'label' being applied to those who would use this. True, one can search for all attendant apps, and sometimes doing so is simple, sometimes not - using Clean App, if it gets all the files that go along with an app, can be a productivity-booster (corporate buzzword used incessantly by MS). Bottom line - if it continues to perform as indicated on my first and only try, I will buy it - it will be a nice convenience - certainly worth it for me. [alert admin]

Filegazer 1.1.2 (Mac OS X)
nice app needs; needs price 'adjustment'
I have to agree with what Lex Luthor said - he gave a pretty descriptive and informative review and his comments about the pricing are right on target. I realize that a lot of work goes into creating something like this app and that the author certainly wants to see some return on their time invested in deveopment; however, it seems that over the recent past, some developers have raised their "asking price" to levels that keep a lot of users from buying their product. $20 is nothing to some, but to many many users, it is a significant amount to spend when there are so many small useful apps to choose from, and keeping the pricing low, say like $10, I think would invite many more users to go ahead and purchase. I've nearly purchased this app half a dozen times, but the $20 just stops me from what would have been an "impulse" buy at $10. I would have never even hesitated. I like what this app does, and it can be useful, but I'm having a hard time taking the plunge; I feel that I can get along without it, even though I like it. I would have rated it at five stars minus one for price, netting at 4 stars, but I didn't rate it 'cause I didn't want to drop the author's 5 star rating. :) [alert admin]

iClip 3.7 (Mac OS X)
With so much intensely positive feedback here, I feel that to add mine is superfluous, but I mentioned to the developer that I would give 'rave' review and consider this as such. This developer just gets it right and works until he does; welcoming as he does, feedback and suggestions. With this latest version, I had a few suggestions, all of which were incorporated into the final version (not, I'm sure, due to JUST my feedback - I'm sure others had pretty much the same suggestions I had). However, I was having one 'buggy' kind of thing that most seemed not to encounter, and that was the preference window opening under the menu bar. The developer continued to search for the fix until he got it - great!!! And, just to illustrate how difficult that that might be, another reviewer, a few reviews below, had just given a positive review with no mention of the window issue and had the same hardware I had, said hardware causing the pref window issue, Anyway, developer did most admirable job in meeting my wishes and seems to have always maintained the same high quality level development. Possibly my most-used favorite system enhancement to date. What more could one want...or say? [alert admin]

iCrypt 1.2 (Mac OS X)
When a developer creates a small, easy-to-use app like this, oftentimes a few cynics jump in with "...you can do the same thing using Terminal with just a couple of simple ccommands" or "...there's this way to do this, and it's free, or that way, or whatever". Yes, one could use Disk Utility to create encrypted Disk Image, for free even, and maybe one could use Cypher (if you could figure out which one to use, or even find the right one; neither have been updated in over 2 years). But, this app does a wonderfully-easy-to-do encryption with the option to create a self-decrypting file or one that will be manually decrypted. And, it encrypts folders as well as single files using a very clean and simple interface. A nice app to have when you want to do a quick encryption and it has the coolest icon!! Heck, the icon alone is worth the shareware fee (and you get a great app with it!) [alert admin]

Compare Folders 1.2.6 (Mac OS X)
Forget the "less than 5-star rating...totally misleading ![]()

and most likely caused by just a couple of posts where some rabid user encountered a problem, and rather than contact the developer (or maintain his/her own system to "prevent" problems), came here to vent and give low rating, thereby bringing down the overall rating. This app definitely deserves 5 stars; it does a wonderful job of giving very useful information relative to the contents of two folders you need to know about; it's fast, highly customizable in your desired "comparison" criteria, and presents results nicely with options to perform a number of desired actions on each item listed in the results, if so desired. It took me a few minutes to get the "hang" of it, and, since my first comparison involved folders with nearly 10,000 files/folders in each of the two being compared, and the one folder had literally hundreds of "different" files due to a malfunction in a backup utility, I was unsure that the results were accurate or would be meaningful. I soon discovered that this app was 100% accurate; I just had a really messed-up "second" folder that was one of the two being compared. Anyway, I highly recommend this app, even if you're not exactly sure how often that you will use it; download it and buy it and I bet you'll find yourself using it quite often. Also, currently, there is a "discount" deal on this app together with another utility from this developer; Drive Gauge, which gives you a nicely-presented display of one's drive's current usage/capacity in a percentage guage. Very well done, and just a nice little utility to have available whenever you might like to check status. Also, provides warnings when drives are getting close to full. Both apps together for just $12.70 - that's worth it even if they DIDN'T work! ;-) I "sort of missed" the special, due to my hastiness in trying to find a utiliy to compare folders and tried to get the discount on just the Compare Folders purchase; the transaction, needless to say, didn't work, after buying Compare Folders and resolving my issues, I went back to look at Drive Guage and think that I'm going to go ahead and buy it even though I won't get the discount. It's only $5, so... Overall, a developer who produces nice applications and has a good philosophy about everything (go through the whole site if you have time); deserves our support. [alert admin]

Glasgow, you miss the point, I bellieve. PasswordMaster stores its data, your info (encrypted) in User/Library/Application Support/Railhead Design and although the 3 files there are encrypted, if another party "borrowed" those files, they would be able to open them on their own computer (if it were a Mac) if they had a copy of PasswordMaster. Terrible security hole and author won't acknowledge anyone pointing it out to him. It's too bad, because I really liked the…
