Xbox Browser 2.1.5 (Mac OS X)
I've tried five different versions of this, and none of them, including this latest 2.1.5, have done a thing. Won't transfer isos to or from the xbox, won't browse the xbox. Wasn't worth the download when it was just a free front end for open source software, let alone now that it's a *paid* front end for free software. [alert admin]

Xbox Browser 1.7 (Mac OS X)
I want to use this program. I"ve downloaded versions 1.5, 1.6, and 1.7. None of them has worked. It launches fine, but after I've entered my Xbox's IP and I try to click on the "refresh ftp list" button, I just get the same error message every time: "There was an error connecting to the Xbox's ftp system. Please check that your setting are right in the preference panel. % Total % Received % Xferd..." and blah blah blah. A bunch more stuff that looks like terminal output follows, within the error dialog. That's as far as I got. [alert admin]

Empower Pro Internet Phone 2.2.1 (Mac OS X)
Based on the information available, I don't see that on balance Empower is better than iChat AV for voice chat. Call me a moron. iChat, I know, works well on 28.8kbps connection, don't know about Empower, but it lists 56k as min. Empower might be overspeccing, or might be using an inferior codec. I don't feel like finding out, yet. iChat is free with Panther. iChat requires no fiddling with Airport. iChat can connect to Windows users in the latest version. Empower appears more configurable, so if everyone I know had a blazing connection, I could talk to them in CD quality. A moot point for me, however. So if all my friends had high-speed, none of them owned PCs, none of them owned Panther, and I didn't have Airport, I might make the effort to convert people to this. As it is, I see no compelling advantage in doing so. Can someone tell me otherwise? [alert admin]

DivXWMAConverter 1.1 (Mac OS X)
On older macs (like the ones this was designed for) another way to speed things up is to downsample 48khz ac3s to 44.1khz. Can't mencoder do this? You might add that function. [alert admin]

Word Counter 1.2 (Mac OS X)
Devontechnologies. It provides a wordcount and a bunch of other functions from the Services menu in any Cocoa app. [alert admin]

VideoLAN client 0.4.6 (Mac OS X)
is nice, but one long-standing prob hasn't been fixed. Playing any kind of file, the audio is scratchy and distorted. This persists on different comps with different CPUs and different OS versions. Also, now when I try to play a file, vlc locks up the entire system with the beachball and a hard reboot is required. I've liked it in the past, though. [alert admin]
