SABnzbd 0.4.11 (Mac OS X)
Whoops, forgot star rating on my last review. Can't seem to figure out how to delete it so I'll just say it's a great product, see my other review and rate it here. [alert admin]

SABnzbd 0.4.11 (Mac OS X)
Worst product name ever, but incredibly useful once you figure out what it does!
Configuration is a little tricky, but once you get it up and running, it makes quick work of any newsgroup download. I have it configured to email whenever a job is completed and automatically start downloading any NZB file I put into a special watched folder on my desktop. You can even configure it to organize your shows by Show, Season and Episode. Another plus: thanks to the tiny size of NZB files, I can remotely trigger downloads by uploading them to my home machine in the correct folder via SFTP. By the time I get home, the latest episode of whatever TV show I want to watch is usually ready to view. Tip: I use binsearch.info to do searches and generate NZB files. Works great! [alert admin]

MKVToolNix 2.5.3 (Mac OS X)
This claims 10.4 compatibility, but crashes in 10.4.11 on a 2.66ghz Mac Pro. dyld: Library not loaded: /opt/local/lib/libiconv.2.dylib Referenced from: /Applications/Video/Mkvtoolnix.app/Contents/MacOS/../Frameworks/libwx_macu-2.8.0.dylib Reason: Incompatible library version: libwx_macu-2.8.0.dylib requires version 7.0.0 or later, but libiconv.2.dylib provides version 5.0.0 So I walked it over to the MacBook running 10.5 and it promptly died with: dyld: Library not loaded: /opt/local/lib/libpng12.0.dylib At any rate, it seems like it is not for the faint of heart... at least not 2.5.3! o_O [alert admin]

Cyberduck 2.8 (Mac OS X)
"Passive" FTP must be checked for 2.8 to work!
Go into System Preferences->Network->Proxies tab and set "Use Passive FTP" checkbox to be enabled. You may notice a bold statement about this during the update process or you may not. Or (in my case) a user you do support for may have blazed by the note without really glancing at it which makes this a heck of a lot harder to troubleshoot. Hope this saves someone else some time... OSXplanet 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)
What can I say? Various versions have been my desktop for the last several years and I absolutely love it! To the people out there writing in about how they loathe the software--it's free and it's best of class. How is that "crap"? I'm afraid the issues may lie with the user, not the software because it's been very stable for me for at least the last 6-9 months... [alert admin]

Redline 1.0.0 (Mac OS X)
Very disappointing as a "simulation" ![]()

THIS REVIEW APPLIES TO THE "SIMULATION" MODE ONLY. I did not test any other modes; they don't interest me. And basically, my conclusion is, don't even bother downloading the game if you're interested in a simulation. Honestly, if you have a PC or an Intel Mac with Windows, instead I recommend downloading Live For Speed or ordering Richard Burns Rally from GoGamer. Both are much more impressive and can be had in the under $50 range (in fact, I believe I only paid $25 for RBR because its an older game). - The game doesn't seem to recognize my Logitech wheel. This is NOT the Redline dev's fault as I don't think Logitech has a wheel driver for the Mac, but I thought I'd mention it in case anyone thinks they can use their Logitech wheel. - The AI seems more intent on crashing you rather than racing you. Off the line, they immediately involve themselves in a smashup derby fest that doesn't dissipate until the speeds of the various cars pull them too far apart to play at it anymore. - There are no damage physics or damage penalties. You do at least seem to slow a little if you drive onto the dirt. - The graphics are nice, but not amazingly impressive on the two races I could drive. Car models aren't very detailed and I saw some shadows in weird places (like projected onto the ground under a bridge the car was going over). - The replay cameras drove me nuts the couple times I watched them. No way to switch cars that I found and no way to force it to stick with your car--who cares what the Mustang is doing if it's 100 yards back from you during the replay? Why not stick with the player car so they can see if their line looked decent or at least give them controls to do that? - Not really sure about handling--there's only two cars in the demo and both are FF, I believe? The major diff seems to be that one has a turbo. Neither impressed me though as feeling highly realistic. - The demo feels extremely limited. I won everything I could win after only a few tries and tossed it. I only mention RBR as an alternative to this game because there are locked tracks with snow and dirt that I can see but not touch in the menus. Two stars for the pretty graphics, but as a sim it's a failure, imho. [alert admin]

Keyboard Maestro 2.0.3 (Mac OS X)
We needed to enter about 8 different things into a Filemaker database off a website (photo research). This speeds the process up dramatically because we just create a clipboard for each thing we need to store and then a macro to tab between fields and paste the different clipboards. My single complaint is that the clipboards don't seem to transfer from machine to machine and therefore the macros using them are totally boned if you export them and try and import them on a different machine--even if you recreate the clipboards on the other machine again first. So you have to manually relink each macro back to the clipboard it uses (they all say "Unknown" after import). [alert admin]

GraphicConverter X 5.8 (Mac OS X)
Is it just me or does 5.8 totally not work on Panther anymore? [1] Disk image refused to mount. Took it to a Tiger machine and converted it to make it work. [2] Copied GC 5.8 out and launched. Got a huge slew of CoreImage errors in the Console and it died. Anyways, that was my experience... [alert admin]

Your comment isn't so great either
Seriously, CyberDuck has become easily as good as all the other commercial and shareware FTP/SFTP clients. Unless you actually have constructive criticism to back your opinion up, it's just a waste of space.

OK, I tried that on one user account and it worked perfectly. Tried it on a second, more customized account and it is failing. In short, I guess YMMV, but it's at least something you can try...

Could someone, like, tell me if this works?
It works beautifully. - Menu bar & keyboard control (the best!) of iTunes - Automatically keep your last.fm profile up-to-date with the music you listen to. - Visual info on what track you're listening to. - Amazing value-for-$$ over the years!

No... better than the rest and still cheap!
Ok, save your $10 (or whatever it is) and go elsewhere is great advice if you don't use this kind of software a lot. But if you do, there isn't anything out there that works as well as Synergy still. The only feature I used to miss was the ability to switch Audio Output Sources, but now that Apple lets you stream to the computer speakers and Airport Express simultaneously, there's nothing I can't access…

iGreg, try Proteron's MaxMenus. It's hella expensive compared to FruitMenu, but rock solid and it supports pretty much as many menus as you want (in each corner of the screen, plus you can make modifier-keyed menus too, such as cmd-click, etc). Been using it since 10.2 and love it.

Why would it run on a G4 AGP? That machine model is supported by Apple still, so it would be pretty silly to put kludged drivers on when you can have the factory-default ones. And one star because you couldn't get it to work with a machine that doesn't need it?!? Dude...

Heh, I can get you halfway there, but it's still kind of annoying. In firefox, type about:config. Now add a new boolean value to the config named network.protocol-handler.external.man with a value of true. Next time you type "man:man" in firefox, it will ask you if it's okay to launch the external app. Say okay and it will launch Safari and display the manpage. Not quite what you're looking for, but a little closer. :-P
