IP Locator 1.6 (Mac OS X)
Version 1.6 of IP Locator allows users to choose between HostIP.info and GEO I/O for geolocation information.
I added this because I have had some feedback that HostIP.info's database is lacking (though you can improve it by adding your location!). GEO I/O, in my testing, has a bit better coverage, though it's not perfect either.
One downside to GEO I/O is that if your location isn't correct, you can't change it easily. Another is that they limit an account to 1000 queries per day. With over 13,000 downloads, it's possible we could run up against that limit. HostIP.info uses an open source model where users can update any inaccuracies and there is no limit on usage, which is the main reason it's the default. Viva open source!
Anyway, I thought it better to let users choose than to force one solution on everyone. I'd be interested to hear people's reaction to this decision. Also, if there is another free service I can add, let me know.

IP Locator 1.5 (Mac OS X)
Hi all,
In an effort to get IP Locator working again, I have switched it over to using geolocation information from HostIP.info. It used to work in conjunction with a script at DNSStuff.com, but they have since disabled it.
The good news is that it does work. More good news is that HostIP is a community effort with an open API, so the service is likely to be stable over time. The bad news is that HostIP's database is much less extensive than DNSStuff's was so you are more likely in this version to get either no match or only a country level match for a given IP. It also means that hostname support has gone away.
Unfortunately, this is out of my control. I have tried repeatedly to get the DNSStuff people to work with me on this, but to no avail.
You can help make the HostIP database more complete by entering location information (if you know it) when you the "No match" message in IP Locator.
Thanks for your understanding!

GetDilbert 1.7.1 (Mac OS X)
Just a quick note to thank everyone who has tried GetDilbert and left their feedback during the nearly 3 years since its release!
Yes, there have been bumps in the road:
- Started out screen-scraping unitedmedia.com, went to an "unofficial" Dilbert RSS feed, then back to screen-scraping
- Tried auto-refreshing, went to a refresh button, then actually made the refresh button work
- Sunday comic got all squished up, "fixed" the problem, "fixed" it again, "fixed" it again, finally really actually fixed it
Some of you have provided excellent, very valid feedback such as "It takes up too much darn space!"
I'll just say in my "defence" that GetDilbert started out as a little widget for myself because I wanted an easy way to follow Dilbert and friends. It's just a hobby project, really.
iComic, iBert, etc.; they're all great widgets! Use 'em! Personally, I like the simplicity of GetDilbert and, frankly, it works for me, so I'm not likely to change it soon.
Anyway, just thought I'd throw this out there for the thousands of people who have downloaded and continue to use GetDilbert every day. Thank you!
Regards!

PHP Function Reference 0.9.1b (Mac OS X)
I'm aware of that bug and am working on a fix. You can workaround it by flipping the widget over and selecting English as your preferred language. [alert admin]

IP Locator 1.2 (Mac OS X)
I have posted a “super-short” survey about the next planned release of IP Locator. Please take 5 minutes to respond with your thoughts and help me make IP Locator the best geolocation widget around. Thanks!

GetDilbert 1.1 (Mac OS X)
Hi all! Thanks for your comments, props, and ratings for GetDilbert! I'm glad you're enjoying it! I am aware of the issue where the comic doesn't refresh. I noticed it myself, but then, a strange thing happened ... today, the comic refreshed! Honestly, I'm trying to track down the reason for this erratic behavior (thanks for the tip about the FoxTrot widget, I'll take a look and see how they do it). In the meantime, if anyone has had the experience of the widget refreshing as it's supposed to, I'd be interested to hear! Either email me or reply to this message. Thanks! -Andrew [alert admin]

GetDilbert 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Click on the comic to go to the official Dilbert site. In the next version, I'll try to make it more obvious that you can do that by making the cursor turn into a hand when you have the mouse over the comic. Thanks for the comments! -Andrew [alert admin]

MyResolution 1.1 (Mac OS X)
Anyone here from Chicago? *taps microphone*
Seriously, folks, as a web designer who also does the occasional presentation using a laptop and LCD projector, I actually have found this little widget useful. It's (for me, YMMV) a more convenient way to quickly double-check my screen resolution (1680 x 1050 for some reason dosen't stick in my mind very easily) than taking my hands off the keyboard, grabbing the mouse, and clicking the Displays menu item.
Just because you don't find it useful doesn't mean no one will. If you don't want to use it ... well, don't!
Cheers!
-Andrew

Yep, GetDilbert went kaput when United Media changed their web site around. Version 1.8 is now ready. It pulls from the official RSS feed, so GetDilbert should work again and forever on!

The feed stopped working, so I switched it back to plain old screen scraping a version later. Let me know you still experience that lag!

As intimated in the description, I basically stole Apple's code to make this widget, so it's going to be exactly as accurate as their pages. The difference you're seeing probably has to do with the difference between the time you reloaded the web page and the time you loaded the widget. How the script works is that it pulls info from the server once a minute and interpolates the values in-between. You're absolutely right that neither is…

That's actually an excellent idea. Hmm... I'd be more than willing to do this for version 2.0 if someone else is willing to maintain a database of face icons for all the Senators, Reps, and White House gang. Any takers? -Andrew. Much-maligned developer of DDAN

Hi, this is Andrew, the developer of Make-A-Pass. There isn't a config file to edit, per se, but you can edit the widget itself in the following way to achieve the result you want (note: probably best to make a backup of the widget in case something goes wrong): Control-click (or right-click) on the widget and choose "Show Package Contents". Open the file "Make-A-Pass.html" in a text editor such as BareBones' free TextWrangler. Look for the…
