AOL Desktop Beta 1 (Mac OS X)
I haven't been an actual AOL customer in over 10 years, admittedly, but when software companies go the stretch to make OSX software from the ground-up, it catches my attention. So I decided to download it and give it a shot. Now, as I said, I don't know if or how any previous AOL clients worked, but this doesn't seem too bad. It provides AOL users with what seems to be a lite version of Safari for one thing. Otherwise, it seemed like a clean application. Once again, I have no basis of comparison. For all I know, it has been like this for awhile now. Because of that, I'll leave my feedback, but no rating as I have done no extensive testing. Keep up the good work. - Xidius [alert admin]

Maya 7.0 (Mac OS X)
Oh yeah, and check out the seemless cross-compatability, when I open a model I made in the OSX version of Maya 8, in the Windows version of Maya 8: Windows: http://homepage.mac.com/xidius/temp/Maya/Windows.jpg OSX: http://homepage.mac.com/xidius/temp/Maya/OSX1.jpg http://homepage.mac.com/xidius/temp/Maya/OSX.jpg http://homepage.mac.com/xidius/temp/Maya/OSX2.jpg Bit of a difference? - Xidius [alert admin]

Maya 7.0 (Mac OS X)
Congratulations on your continuing failure of support on the mac platform. Maya 8 is released, and we get neither 64-bit functionality nor Intel compatibility. That's fantastic considering 99% of Mac Professionals who use Maya are equipt with either G5s or Mac Pros. Both of which are 64-bit, and half of which are Intel. Way to prove that you guys at Autodesk are still on the ball! After all that hard work refusing 3d Studio Max to us, I was almost afraid you'd lose face by supporting us with Maya or something! Good job! Our Intel Macs will be 2+ years old before we can use Maya without constant freezing / 15 minute beachballs! Oh oh! But the Windows / Linux versions are 64-bit! Sweet! ... - Xidius [alert admin]

Alias SketchBook Pro 2.0 (Mac OS X)
Oops, I forgot. Here are a couple other features I (As a professional graphic artist) feel this App 100% needs: 0 - UNIVERSAL BINARY. =P 1 - In addition to layer opacity, allow us to change the way our layers interact with other layers (much like photoshop). Example: You can set it to "Pin Light", "Subtract", "Overlay", etc. 2 - Layer folders/groups! Right now I am working on a large project to take the app for a spin, and the first thing I noticed is how ENTIRELY out of control the layers are. I have hundreds of them, and there is no way to organize them! @_@ If this isn't fixed then the app will be entirely useless to me. 3 - Another option that would be helpful would be to collapse the layer icons to a smaller size, so we can see more on the screen at a time. 4 - Make the layer opacity window into a drop down menu. Having it as it's own separate window is quite annoying. =\ Another rectification would simply be to have the window close itself if you click anywhere other than the window. 5 - Allow us to disable anti-aliasing for pixel-point accuracy when zoomed in. 6 - Allow us to move selections with the keyboard, 1 pixel at a time (once again) for further accuracy. 7 - Um... That's all I've got for now. =) Keep up the good work! - Xidius [alert admin]

Parallels Desktop 2.2.1862.0 (Mac OS X)
It's great at what it does, I admit. My problem lies in it's functionality. The fact it creates and runs virtual machines (a la the recently deceased VirtualPC) is alright, but (sadly) the majority of mac users who wish to use Windows want it for the single advantage Windows has over Mac OSX: Games. Because of this, the majority of Mac-Windows users will still be forced into a dual-boot solution or into purchasing an entire other computer for which to dedicate to the cause. (reasons being speed and ability. can't even run games without the proper drivers) If Parallel's hopes to be desired in situations like this, I suggest they find a way to compete directly or work with the existing solutions. Examples: 1 - Run a Bootcamp Partition via Parallel's - This would allow dual-booters access to all their (non-graphically intensive) applications and files without the need to reboot, and without the need to install a SECOND copy of Windows on their machine. 2 - (I am sure this is in the works but..) Direct X / Graphics Drivers / Etc - The ability to play games at decent speeds via virtualization (or otherwise).. (But if you were to do this, then you would also need to do #3:) 3 - The ability to put OSX into sleep mode, as to have all processing / graphics power dedicated to Windows - Fairly self-explanitory. =P If Parallels could pull off these three features, I'm sure it would find itself in the spotlight for years to come. (pun intended.) ;) - Xidius [alert admin]

Camino 1.0 (Mac OS X)
A couple things to make Camino perfect: 1 - When there is currently more than one mpg video open in Camino (in different tabs, for example), then playing one will result in choppy frame-rates. 2 - The ability to disable icons in the bookmark bar. (entirely. default icons included.) 3 - Mouse-button 3 opens links in new tabs, but it doesn't work with the bookmark bar currently. 4 - A combined refresh / stop loading button. 5 - Auto-spell check in text boxes. With these 5 fixes, I will find it to be 100% on par with (if not better than!) Safari. =) - Xidius [alert admin]

Believe it or not, there are actually people out there using the DP of Leopard actively right now. With what intentions, you may ask? To get third party apps working correctly on it. That is why it is called a "Developer Preview". It isn't just an interactive screenshot gallery of what's to come next spring. It has a purpose. - Xidius
