OmniGrowl 3.0 (Mac OS X)
It has been reported by several people that OmniGrowl 3.0 is opening its preference window at startup even though that option is not checked. I consider this top priority for a fix, but unfortunately I am on vacation until July 3 and have no access to the source to fix it. It will be fixed by July 7 or earlier. Sorry for the inconvenience. If there are any other issues besides this one please report them to woodenbrain at kagi dot com so a proper maintenance release can be produced ASAP after my return. [alert admin]

OmniGrowl 1.1 (Mac OS X)
OmniGrowl is not a preference pane
The previous user is confused. OmniGrowl is not a preference pane, there is no installation either. It is a normal though faceless application. It could not possibly cause the sort of problem described here. Thank you. [alert admin]

Thank you so much for releasing NW as a UB. (Especially given the recent shenanigins of Brian Clark -- we all feel for Brian but maybe he doesn't realize the carrot and stick thing is a big turn off!) Look forward to future efforts. Unfortunately this is not yet useable for at least the following reasons: 1. does not remember saved group lists, and saved group lists cannot be opened (greyed out) manually. 2. decoder programs are not selectable in extracting binaries (also greyed out). I see NewsDecode UB 2.00 but that can't be selected (also perhaps should be packaged together??) 3. some changes to settings do not persist across launches 4. full group lists cannot be filtered 5. no immediately obvious way to sort messages in a group by say, date. 6. no applescript support. I am the developer of the auto-poster Osiris, and would be happy to update it for this as long as the applescript support approximated that in MT-NW. (right now the only scriptable newswatchers are MT-NW (barely) and Thoth (obsolete)) I cannot recommend this at the moment, but will gladly give it a shining review when it works! [alert admin]

Speed Download 3.0.20 (Mac OS X)
I own 3.x and am quite satisfied with it but for one thing: the restriction for one computer. I often have my laptop at home and on my LAN but it's just me that uses it. I put it on the LAN to sync files to my desktop quickly. But since SD is in the login items of both, I always get a dual - use warning and have to quit one. It's supremely irritating and insulting. Those companies who really want to restrict uses on a LAN should at least have a limit of 2, not 1. For that reason alone I wouldn't pay any upgrade fees, until that restriction is removed. I'm also not especially pleased about the 3.x -> 4.x upgrade as I don't know what else is really needed! But that's another matter. [alert admin]

Kandalu X 1.50c.72.t (Mac OS X)
how many of these do we really need?
look ... i haven't tried this one but really developers (and I am one), can't we think of something original to do? I mean I can think of half a dozen of these off the top of my head (iPod.iTunes, iPodRip, Open Pod, Senuti, PodManager, Pod2Go) and am sure there are over a dozen at least that run on os x. and senuti is free. Corail 1.0.2 (20060323) (Mac OS X)
this looks good and very promising -- better than what's out there for the mac and free too, merci. like the last reviewer too early to comment but look forward to development. but still a lot of development left. a number of interface glitches -- start time cuts off for instance. the arrow keys on the bottom left dont work. i saw no reason this must be a package install. many people myself included don't like package installers on os x -- don't know what is being installed. i used pacifist to extract directly from package. also, and here is my big wish: i really want something i can sync with my palm pilot. i use shark point now which is close to this in completeness, but it's desktop software is Windoze only. A Taste of OnScreen DNA 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)
I wonder if the developers are making a pun. DNA, other than being the building blocks of life and whatnot, were also the name of late 70s New York avant-garde / no-wave band led by Arto Lindsay. That band put out an album called A Taste of DNA. Coincidence? Or intelligent design? [alert admin]

MoveTunes 1.3 (Mac OS X)
Fixed a problem using an iTunes playlist as a source where the track would not be removed from the library playlist before moving. Caught quickly, so a silent update was released at 12:45 am EST 3/3/06. If you downloaded it before that, please re-download. BTW, comments/reviews appreciated. [alert admin]

I hadn't heard of such issues until just now. Please e-mail developers with bug reports -- there is no guarantee we will see them here. I just launched HomeBuyDB 1.2 with no problem on OX 10.5.4. I will check into this further however. In the meantime, if you see this, please contact WBC.

Can you please provide some more info via email about why you think OG is causing this problem? I searched Apple Discussions and find tons of threads about sleep issues on Leopard. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6237927 http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6448239 So far I have no reason think OG is causing this problem.

Bug reports should be sent to developers, otherwise how can they be fixed? WBC was not aware of this issue until just now. It will be investigated.

Sorry you had these problems. This is unusual behavior. Please email support. I'm sorry you had to rate support with 1 star, as I don't believe you have contacted WBC. Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback. Song length (duration) is already considered and there is a duration fudge room slider. Also there are settings for reserved words that are designed to specify words in song / album names that would not be considered duplicates. (Like "live" etc). iDupe is in fact designed to make decisions based on listening. Thus, better quality is always preferred all else equal. As you say you…

Latin prefixes belong to the language
I appreciate the concern about confusion expressed here. However "omni-" is a Latin prefix that describes the global nature of this application very well: According to the OED entry on "omni": "Forming compounds in which the first element has the sense ‘in all ways or places’, or ‘of all things’." Also according to the OED, the prefix took off in productivity in English after the 16th century. The OmniGroup has been around a…

this is highly unusual. please try deleting your com.wbc.castaway.plist preference file from ~/Library/Preferences and then starting over. i recommend just changing a few settings, quitting, and re-launching cast away to make sure it is saving properly.

You can turn off auto-starting iCal and Address book in preferences. See the info file on how to access preferences in this faceless application. The nag is turned off in the Growl pref pane. If it is appearing even after you turn it off, then contact the Growl developers.
