PeerMatrix 2.6 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
Do Not be sucked in by this...
To add the adds to a torrent file for example, Peer Matrix would have to alter the content, a process known in Bittorrent circles as "Poisoning" because it is often used by greifers and anti piracy groups to wreck a file in a given "swarm" of users. Because of this, most clients filter out and prevent poisoning so your ads would not go anywhere. On other file shareing P2P services, the file that is being transfered is hashed (put through a mathamatical algorithm that comes up with a standard sized string of characters). A file can only have one hash value, but a hash value can represent several possible files. The file's hash is often automatically checked after downloading. If they don't match the file is thrown away. sometimes they match several diffrent diffrent hashes. then these programs will throw away the content downloaded and block the source.Eihter way noads will get through Then there is the problem of turning off users who weren't expecting an ad and downloaded content they did not expect an ad. Also there is the issue of you profiting of another persons intelectual property. It could be legally argued that you are a pirate, while the person who posteditmayonlybe a copyright infringer. IMHO.... DO NOT USE. [alert admin]

Windows Live Movie Maker Beta 14.0.8064 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
To install WLMMbeta you have to install ALL of the Windows Live Components
I downloaded the installer here and when it was installing it first asked me with checkboxes what Windows Live components I wanted to install. None of them in my case since they list everything BUT Movie Maker. I then searched Microsofts site and appearently you have to install ALL of the components to get the privilege of working the bugs out of the beta. I don't use any of the components and I have other apps installed to do most of the functionality of Windows Live and don't feel like manually reassigning default apps and wasting HDD space. Baaaaad move Microsoft, Bad move. [alert admin]

VLC media player 0.9.6 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
VLC 9.6 and FLV/MP4/H.264 Problem
There were a few bugs in the original build for 0.9.6 that caused problems trying to play .flv or .mp4 files that were using the H.264 Codec. When trying to launch from file association VLC would launch and do nothing. If VLC was already launched and you tried to play the files it would crash the player with a diffrent error message for both. If the logs were checked they would include statements that the system clock was going backwards. If you download the latest version (it is still 0.9.6, just a newer build) It fixes these issues and many others that have cropped up since the new interface overhaul in 0.9.x. This is expected when ever you do a major overhaul of a program. If it isn't stable and polished enough for you go back to one of the last versions of 0.8.x untill the bugs are worked out. OpenOffice.org 2.4.1 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)
This is a beta/release canadate not a final release!!!
This is something you guys at Version Tracker REALLY should be more careful of. I have been using it for years and have lost alot of important documents because of bugs in beta versions that I mistakenly installed and used because OpenOffice.Org announced its "relese of new version" accidentally forgeting to state that it is not the final version. Don't make the same mistake on something as important as an Office Suite! [alert admin]

Product is 30 Day Trialware, NOT FREEWARE
Sorry my email newsletter rendered wrong and it made it read like it was freeware. please ignore the above comment. I am just tired of getting ready to download what I think will be a cool free app here and finding out it is trialware.

Radio Pimps like Leo Laporte Bash AVG Free and .....
Actually Nod32 is very well known. It uses advanced Huerstics (in other words looks for things that talk and walk like a virus) and not mainly virus definitions. AVG does use some good hueristics but no where on the level of Nod32. And if you'd bother listening to Leo Laporte, if you need a anti virus program and can't afford to keep a paid one up, he suggests AVG Free.
