MacPinball 2.6 (Mac OS X)

Doesn't come close to fulfulling its own hype

I love pinball. I was hoping for a "3D pinball game with lots of amazing effects and options" Nope. Not even close, in my opinion. More like "a decent but not spectacular way to spend a bit of time" I'm with the others who recommend LittleWing... (http://www.littlewingpinball.com/contents/en/index.html) baKno ought to take a look at the LittleWing pinball games, see what *can be done* and maybe tone down the description of their own effort a bit. Enigmo 2 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)

30MB Download to fix a save game bug...

This seems like a awfully big patch. I guess it was a BIG bug. [alert admin]

Quicksilver 1C03 (Mac OS X)

0.1% CPU usage on my Macs - FYI

I'm not seeing the CPU-hogging issue on my Macs (iMac G4 - 10.3.7, PowerMac G5 - 10.3.7, iBook - 10.3.5). CPU usage (according to Activity Monitor) hovers around 0.1%. Using the latest Quicksilver, build 10C3. Has anyone contacted Blacktree to see what they have to say? [alert admin]

Quicksilver 1C03 (Mac OS X)

I think they mean version 1C03

Quicksilver is reporting version 1C03 as current. Still calling it b33 overall. [alert admin]

Butler 4.0b21 (Mac OS X)

Catching up with Quicksilver

Butler continues to improve, closing the feature gap with the freeware Quicksilver. Not quite as slick, and not quite as free, but Butler is a nice program with good support and timely updating. Users can only benefit from the competition in this "now-that-I-used-it-I-can't-live-without-it" category. [alert admin]

Spring Cleaning 7.0 (Mac OS X)

Works with 10.3.5 on my machines

Runs without error under 10.3.5 on a dual-G5 tower and single G4 FP iMac. The -199 error is typical of filesystem problems, rather than a specific application. [alert admin]

Harry Potter II 1.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Quite fun, nearly…

done! Target audience is *not* hard-core gamers, more medium range. Works great under OS 9 and OS X. FYI, Dudu is just a troll displaying his ignorance in an attempt to get a reaction. Buffoons like dudu are unfortunately a common occurrence on the internet. "Rictusempra!" "Flipendo!" - That should do it. [alert admin]

Safari Enhancer 1.5.4 (Mac OS X)

FYI, Pirated software…

= commercial/shareware software currently or previously *for sale*, distributed by non-authorized individuals. Safari is not pirated. Illegal software = any software that is illegal to possess, possession of said software results in jail time. Safari is not illegal. It *is* unreleased to the general public, except for v60. Many folks are still working with Apple to improve Safari with Apple's approval. If you're not one of them, then chill out, get off your soapbox, and wait for the next *public* release like the rest of us. No one is forcing you to download *anything*. This program is extremely useful to those (including folks at Apple) who need it. [alert admin]

Oni X 1.36 (Mac OS X)

Thanks OmniGroup! I'm…

absolutely thrilled that you found the time to do this on the side. There seems to be some confusion, though. Just so folks know: OmniGroup is not the Publisher nor the Developer of the commercial release of Oni. They are not (and never were) under any obligation to provide support for Oni X. OmniGroup did the OS X port for *free*, and all subsequent patches. They did it in their spare time. This version beats the commercial version of Oni, because it understands widescreen displays. And I've been having to boot OS 9 to run Oni, now I don't. Folks should check their facts before they bash. Thanks again, OmniGroup. [alert admin]

Quicksilver developer recommends LaunchBar

Taken from Lifehacker Interview with Quicksilver's creator Nicholas Jitkoff from December 2007

Jitkoff: "I'm inclined to encourage users to move over to the more stable and well supported alternatives like LaunchBar."

Disappointed

I'm not sure that I would want to have a poorly-tested program that destroys my data. Lost data is a BAD THING. I prefer to have a program that the developers are sure works correctly and safeguards my data, so I can wait.

ROMs are at fault

Each new version of MAME does a better job of emulating the original hardware. ROMs that break are missing various chips (sound or color PROMs, usually). That's a problem with the ROMs, not MAME.

Doesn't work with BETA version of Leopard

I'm not actually very surprised that it doesn't work with a BETA version of Leopard. Why should it? If it doesn't work on the OFFICIAL release version of Leopard (OS X 10.5) then you should complain...

Conflicts with Norton Anti Virus - Same here...

I have also run into this issue. The Norton Antivirus Scan Engine cannot load with StuffIt Deluxe 12 installed. I have been unable to determine exactly what the cause it, but removing Norton and re-installing from the original CD doesn't have any effect. Reverting to StuffIt Deluxe 11 clears up the problem...

Using BETA with no Backup?

At least now you have been offered a lesson in best practices - BETA software is very risky - always back up anything you don't want to lose.
