X-Chat Aqua 0.16.0 (Mac OS X)
Woooohoooo! This is about as good as it gets. This new version, with irc:// protocol handling, universal binary, and all-around improvements have solved all my problems. X-Chat Aqua is by far the best IRC client for MacOS X, and it's free! If I had any 'wouldn't it be nice' feature I'd like in a possible future version, it would be built-in support for the dccserver extension, as it is fairly common to run into, and quite tricky to run using CLI tools... MailTemplate for Mail 1.6.1 (Mac OS X)
Good start, needs improvement... ![]()

This is a great tool, but has a few shortcomings that need to be addressed. 1) Keyboard shortcuts. This is crucial. We need a way to call up templates immediately, like command-shift-1, command-shift-2, etc. Ultimately, it would also be nice to be able to call up a template directly, like with a toolbar icon that opens and closes a side drawer with a list of templates. 2) The text quoting format for replies is a bit lame. It would be nice to use the standard mail quote formatting. Overall, this is a good tool. It's just a bit painful to have to dig into a buried contextual menus every time you want to access a template. I hope this can be addressed for more efficient use. I just found out about this, and will probably buy it, but it would be nice to have an improved method of access. [alert admin]

Best Shrinker, Terrible Interface... ![]()

Well, DVD2OneX is still the best shrinker on the market, and these latest updates are nice. The interface, unfortunately, still continues to suck ass. Some work really needs to be done to ensure an efficient workflow, instead of making you click everywhere in 10 different screens... You'd think that if enough people complained, they would realize something is wrong here... [alert admin]

DVD2oneX 2.0.4 (Mac OS X)
Well, they don't seem to be listening to any of the feedback, and the interface is still a big pile of crap, mostly. The 2.x interface is a huge pain in the ass to work with. They really need to fix the thing if they hope to be successful on the Mac... [alert admin]

MacTheRipper 2.6.3 (Mac OS X)
To Those with ARccOS Problems...
MTR works fine on the new ARccOS discs for most users. The 'bad sector' errors are normal for ARccOS discs, and we're probably going to get rid of those in ARccOS modes in the future. Don't worry about that. As for ARccOS discs completely failing to rip, it seems that some drives are either incredibly slow or just plain unable to deal with ARccOS DVDs and their bad sectors. There's nothing we can do about that, since we're forced to use the OS's drive access (IOKit), and that has limitations that we can't do anything about. If you can't rip an ARccOS disc, you can try sending it in to us, and we can see if you have a strange release that won't rip on any drives (in which case we can probably fix the problem in MTR), or if it's just your particular drive that can't handle these discs. Contact us at mtr@ripdifferent.com if you want to get info on how to send your problem discs to us, and we'll return them when we're done. If you have several DVD drives, try using a different one. If not, try letting it rip overnight, and see if there's any progress. Otherwise, there's nothing we can do about some drives refusing to skip over bad sectors. [alert admin]

DVD2oneX 1.4.2 (Mac OS X)
This is by far the best DVD compressor available for MacOS X. With the current exchange rate, this app is a bit on the pricey side for us USians (luckily I bought it when it first came out and the Dollar was actually worth more than the Euro), but that's hardly their fault. The new ARccOS features make this a must-have update. Love the progress bar in the dock icon too. In all, I couldn't live without this great app; many thanks to the devs! [alert admin]

X-Chat Aqua 0.13.0 (Mac OS X)
This is the best IRC client available for MacOS X, and free to boot! Many thanks to the developer for giving us his time and effort. There is a single feature I would like to request for the next revision, and that is support for the dccserver extension (part of mIRC, but ported as a source patch to xchat as well), as more and more fserves and xdcc servers are requiring it. I hope this gets added soon, as it would make this app a lot more useful. I can't really dock any points for the lack of this feature since it's a non-standard extension to IRC, but it is becoming more and more necessary to have. [alert admin]

MacTheRipper 2.6 (Mac OS X)
It seems RipDifferent.com has put up a mirror of MTR 2.6 here: http://www.ripdifferent.com/mactheripper26.dmg.zip See if that one works any better for those having problems with the official one. [alert admin]

CronniX 3.0b3 (Mac OS X)
Cronnix is an essential utility, and is very well designed. I use it all the time to schedule iMovie capturing of TV shows, reminders, etc., and it's never failed me yet. The improvements in the latest version are very welcome. Thank you to the developer for making this great interface for cron. [alert admin]

Stop all the *censored*ing! This App Rocks! A++++++++++++++
The point is maybe if we give poor ratings, they'll understand that there's a problem here, and make it BETTER. Sure, Movie Only mode is not too bad now, and the argument could be made that it's more intuitive. The problem is that the used the same interface for Full Disc mode, which should be extremely simple, without the need to navigate through 5 different screens for something I could do in a few clicks…

I doubt DVDBackup would be any better, but the "eye-candy" in MTR is informative, and the interface is empowering, where you're able to do a lot of things not possible with DVDBackup, and yet efficient so if you do the same thing each time, you can pretty much just hit enter and start ripping. As for the same change description, that because there is a lot of work going into the scanning code in 2.7,…

Don't do that, use Handbrake instead of MTR to rip from DVD directly to divx.

Interesting. I'll have to see if it's behaving like that for me too. Why don't you email us at mtr@ripdifferent.com with that bug report, in case we need to ask you for any additional information (in case we can't reproduce it).

Can't rip German language (.vob File)
Try selecting all the audio tracks and see if you can get the one you want. Otherwise, don't demux in MTR, and then try using Extractor to get the streams you want extracted.

That's a problem with 42, not with MTR. Try using Handbrake if you want to rip from DVD to divx, which doesn't require MTR except on ARccOS-protected DVDs.

Bad Sectors Error with Latest Release
Try contacting us at mtr@ripdifferent.com so we can get some more info from you. There seem to be problems with Virex causing issues with MTR as you describe. Also, do older versions of MTR also give you the same problem? Are these DVDs from different regions than the one your drive is set to? Have you tried repairing the permissions on your MacOS X drive using Disk Utility?
