AcidSearch 0.6 (Mac OS X)

Absolutely brilliant...

I can't believe that idiot gave this software a ONE star rating because of one small bug (which I haven't been able to replicate, BTW). Clearly he doesn't understand how the rating system works. Anyway, this software is superb, even more so because it's freeware. It's the kind of thing I didn't know I desperately needed until I started using it. This functionality really ought to be present in Safari to begin with, but I'm glad someone stepped up and delivered. Top-notch work. [alert admin]

Firefight 1.0a (Mac OS X)

Brilliant!

This is such a cool idea I'm surprised I haven't seen it before. The screen saver is actually beautiful with or without the sound reaction stuff. Just one suggestion (and I realize this is a 1.0 release, so I'm not surprised this isn't in there yet): give us an option to slow the animation down. The lights are beautiful, but I'd prefer that they weren't so frantic. Great work! [alert admin]

Hot Spot X 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Terrific!

Great game, very addictive. I'd say the term "easy" is very relative in this case - I think it's hard as hell no matter what skill level you select. One problem it seems to have is that the high scores table doesn't work - they all say zero and yet I've never been prompted to give it my initials. I would also suggest you set it to bring up a new game when the app is launched. [alert admin]

Gas 2.0.2 (Mac OS X)

Credit where credit is due...

I would have been happy with a simple bug fix to the old version, but Gas 2 is a fantastic update to an already great piece of software. Thanks for developing such a great tool. [alert admin]

Adium X 0.82 (Mac OS X)

v.82 kills preferences?

I just upgraded to v.82 from v.77 and it retained *none* of my appearance preferences. Does anyone know why this is happening and what I might do to fix it? I really don't want to have to go in and reset all of that crap. For now it's back to .77, which I didn't really have any problems with. Best IM app on the market, nonetheless. [alert admin]

WakeOnLan 0.30 (Mac OS X)

Re: No sleep

Knoodles - just turning the sleep feature on in Energy Saver isn't a good solution for those of us who have file servers for which we either need to access files for just a minute or so or indefinitely. There's nothing more aggravating (and this is a old, mostly unrelated gripe) than the OS freezing up for a few minutes trying to look for a disk that you already know is no longer available. That's the kind of thing you get when you mount a disk and then it becomes inactive before you tell it to. I myself requested the same sleep feature for another similar app that doesn't look like it's still being developed. I would love for this developer to add it. [alert admin]

Fishpad 2 2.0 (Mac OS X)

Superb, with one major caveat...

This is a really terrific app, but I've discovered one major flaw: the program is capable of losing data in a crash and there's no option to force-save your data other than quitting and restarting. It appears that it only saves the data when you quit the app normally (I've tried adding fake data and force-quitting - the fake data disappears) and I feel this is a big problem with the app. Rare as it may be, apps crash and so does OS X (just the other day my laptop refused to wake from sleep). Bottom line: the app should employ a save feature instead of error-beeping when you hit cmd-S. [alert admin]

IGS Twisted 1.2.3 (Mac OS X)

Superb...

Although ZoomQuilt is very cool, I don't see the point in comparing it to this in any capacity and I most certainly don't agree with AppleBeer's review. This is easily the best Electropaint port I've seen and I've always loved its random/organized beauty. I will agree, however, with his complaints about the lighting - while I like the addition of the dark/light concept, the current version of the screensaver seems significantly darker than previous versions, so much that it ends up detracting from the effect. Just too big of a step in the right direction. Otherwise, fantastic work. [alert admin]

ElectropaintOSX 0.2 (Mac OS X)

No contest...

Electropaint was a truly cool screensaver and I applaud the author's attempt to port it, but seriously guys, IGS Twisted spanks the bejesus out of this: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/14378 [alert admin]

iMOnTime 2.2 (Mac OS X)

Still awesome...

Kudos on the continued development of an already-great product - I've been using iMOnTime for (literally) about four years and have always been satisfied with it. The new features are terrific - I'm especially glad to see that open reminders that aren't acknowledged when the computer/app crashes come back up. Quick search, awesome. Logging is an awesome idea, BUT I would like to see an option to log *all* one-time reminders by default. Having to manually hit the "log" button seems a little bit beside the point - if I was aware that I was going to want reminder information later, I'd probably just snooze it for awhile. However, there are times when I dismiss a reminder without thinking about it (in fact I just dismissed one by accident because it popped up just as I was hitting Return for another app) and wish I could retrieve the information it contained. I don't mind having to go in and delete a bunch of old reminders (though a "delete reminders older than..." feature would be great in a future release). I would also like to see an option to have the menu bar or dock icon flash/bounce when there's a new reminder *until* you bring the reminder to the front. I am constantly annoyed when a reminder interrupts me while I'm typing, so I'd love to leave new reminders in the background, but I also tend to leave reminders open for hours at a time and definitely don't want the icon to be flashing during that time. Anyway, thanks a lot for keeping this program alive - it really is the best reminder app on the market. [alert admin]

Scratch that...

Never mind the high scores list problem - I just realized that you have to actually enter an "end game" command. Maybe not particularly intuitive, but I understand the need - you can undo your last move if the game ends.

Same mouse issues as previous posters

Try playing it in windowed mode. I didn't discover this problem until I tried playing it full-screen, during which I get the same result. Annoying.

@Whit G

You don't seriously think that's easier than doing the same with Remote Desktop, do you? Besides, I'm asking for this as a feature for this app, not instructions on how to open *another* app for that functionality.

Lag/latency?...

bgkarma, I'm interested in your lag comparison I'm a brand new tablet user and that's the only thing that really bothers me - the pen can't really keep up with my drawing/shading style because it takes so many milliseconds to start drawing that it sometimes misses my strokes altogether. I currently have the latest non-beta driver available from the Wacom site installed - 4.8.4-2. Should I downgrade to something older?

RE: Alias for GarageBand loops folder

He's right. I tried the same thing as soon as I got my hands on it and of course it didn't work (logging out won't help), but it turns out symbolic links will do it: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20040117222032141&query=garageband

"a simple click..."

David, some of us don't want to have to go to the Dock every time we want to switch applications. Maybe it seems trivial to you, but if my mouse is sitting *right beside* a slab of desktop, why would I want to have to reach over to the Dock and click a single icon in order to bring the Finder's windows up? This is especially relevant if you like to keep your Dock small…
