Now Software Customer Service Blind to Mistakes
Nice that you responded, Randy. Problem is, the highlighting was present in prior versions, including version 4.5.3 (which I presently use). Your team did not, as a matter of interface design, decide to not highlight the header in the current day on the multi-day view; they overlooked the feature in the rush to release the latest eye candy versions. Your quality control team missed it too. In case you did not know, the highlighting lets one know at-a-glance what is the current day. Why would one remove this feature from the multi-day view but let it remain in the month view? Your attitude permeates Now Software; this is why your reviews are so poor. All that is necessary from a customer service point-of-view is to acknowledge the oversight and assure that it will be fixed in the future. I did not report a bug as your excuse reply indicates; I reported just what Now Software represents in customer support. Thank you for confirming my position. Please review page one of the standard college course, Customer Service Primer 101. P.S. Please do not respond. Just take care of the design oversight, and if the reminder issue is fixed (cannot tell you now since I will not upgrade until the interface is complete) you will continue to get paid (remember why you do what you do). Randy Murray did you read my review of Version 5.1.2 on 03-18-06? It said: "Version 5.1.2 forgot to include highlighting and bold text in the header of the current day in the Multiday view, and for the current day in the Year view, but, somehow, probably by mistake, remembered to do so in the Week and Month views; an amazing oversight. Although Version 4.5.3 finally does remind, it continues to remind multiple times--dozens of times--after being dismissed each time the reminder pops up. My first Tech Support call to Now Software was to Roy on April 23, 1993. Yes, 1993. Present owners and management have not impressed and continue to disappoint. Will they ever allocate a development budget necessary to make this software work properly?" Version 5.3.0 has the same highlighting issues as Version 5.1.2; I will let you know about the reminder issue. In the mean time, Jack, er,a, Randy, fix your software!!!!!! [alert admin]

SuperDuper! 1.5.5(74) (Mac OS X)
Problems with New Power Mac and PowerBooks?
This past weekend I was going to purchase a new 15" PowerBook and the new 2.3GH Dual-Core Power Mac. I brought my SuperDuper cloned system on an external firewire HDD to the retailer to boot up the new systems in order to do a pixel screen test before purchasing the systems. Both new systems would not boot--infact, the bootup process froze on the PowerBook and produced a kernal panic on the Power Mac; however, a 12" PowerBook would boot without any problem. Perhaps there is something related to the new DDR2 RAM, or some OS issue on the new systems that prevented reading and booting from a SuperDuper clone of my 10.4.2 system. I will not buy any new system until a bootable, working clone is available. Waiting for a solution. Is this a SuperDuper issue? [alert admin]

Patent Grabber 3.3 (Mac OS X)
Patent Grabber does a really nice job eliminating all the BS format problems that the US Patent Office presents when viewing or downloading patents. Menu item get info does not work, and the menu item title says Patent Grabber 3.1.2-01 whereby this is version 3.3. The dock icon is ok, but what does the R stand for? How about a P instead. We don't collect information about other software installed on user's machines. When you send a bug report, depending on the type of bug you report, it may include a standard Apple System Profile report, as generated by Apple's System Profiler application. This DOES include information about other installed applications... The above contradictory paragraphs are from the developer's post below. One either collects user information, or one does not. Developer, you admit collecting such information, but say that you do not. Do you think customers are stupid? dennis19 is absolutely correct; regardless of the developer's present good intent (he does seem a bit cocky, though), any future acquirer of the developer's business or database assets, or any change in developer's privacy policy, puts customers (legit or not) at risk. Developer, 1.) notify all customers both before initial program installation, and at the time of execution, of any and all user information that you collect from time-to-time; and 2.) add to your privacy policy that any such user information collected will be destroyed upon completion of the customer service event. Furthermore, add to your privacy policy that this part or the privacy policy will never be changed (that way we can sue your ass if you abuse the policy). You are in business now, subject to many legal hurdles. Be nice, and be legal. Oh, and stop lying in plain daylight, and quit collecting customer data without explicit customer permission. Carbon Copy Cloner 2.3 (Mac OS X)
CCC Bootable in OS X 10.3.5 - Adding SuperDuper
Our prior post was incorrect; latest tests confirm that since updating from OS X 10.3.4 to OS X 10.3.5, CCCed backup drives do boot. The problem appears isolated to OS X 10.3.4. We are pursuing a daul backup policy using both CCC and SuperDuper. SuperDuper works well, too, and is free per the developer; only advanced features such as scheduling require registration and a payment. In both cases we do complete backups to internal HDDs and external firewire drives. We use Disk Utility to erase any backup drive before cloning. [alert admin]

CCC Fails to Admit Problems - Scorns Customers! ![]()

This firm is a multi-paying, long-term CCC customer that has indeed posted to the troubleshooting forum at Bombich, contrary to the A Z post. CCC has not been updated in over a year. Our posts are for the benefit of users; no disgrimination is made in complimenting, or advising caution. In early August we evaluated SuperDuper on a G5 system and it produces the bootable clones that CCC once did. One star downgrade for customer support cockiness and insecurity. [alert admin]

Carbon Copy Cloner 2.3 (Mac OS X)
Several long-term, experienced CCC users have reported basically the same problem: not all CCC backups are bootable. This is true following all directions, and reviewing troubleshooting boards. Our non-bootable backups started after installing OS X 10.3.4, and continues with OS X 10.3.5. Everything works fine, but the clones are no longer bootable, including internal and external drives, and on three different systems (G3 PowerBook, and G4 Desktops). The systems hang at startup with a blue screen and rotating radial line ball. All data appears copied correctly. [alert admin]

Carbon Copy Cloner 2.3 (Mac OS X)
I have been uning the superb CCC with great success on 10 different internal, and Firewire external, HDDs since v 2.1.1; however, since installing OS X 10.3.4 neither my internal nor external drives boot. I do get through a completed backup process and all my files appear to be copied, just cannot boot now. Any suggestions? [alert admin]

Can I use CCC to move a user from a PowerMac to a Powerbook?
I clone my OSX G4 hard drive to a firewire drive, and then boot an older G3 Powerbook from the firewire drive. The G3 looks, feels, and works as if it is the G4. I did not clone the G4 to the G3's internal hard drive due to the hard drive's capacity limitations, but there should be no difference from the firewire drive. CCC is just outstanding; buy several firewire or USB…
