Epson Stylus Color 1520 5.6AE (Mac OS 9)
comments and even though the ReadMe file only mentions Mac OS 9.0.1, this SC1520 v5.6AE driver DOES also work with Mac OS 9.1 - or at least the 'direct Mac-to-printer' (= non-AppleTalk) version of the driver does. I am currently using it without problems. I have not tried the network (= AppleTalk) version of the driver, but my guess would be that one's also OK (works only if you own a 1520 with network-card, of course). It's merely the Installer that indeed messes up things quite horribly if used without caution. To install safely, use Custom Install and then do not install ColorSync, as it will install the obsolte CS version 2.0. Moreover and much more importantly, the installer will install (even when using custom install) obsolete versions (i.e. vs 2.0) of two files, i.e. FireWire Support and FireWire Enabler, in the Extensions Folder. This duo will generate spectacular crashes at startup, usually right at the beginning of the startup process. For this reason it is important to trash - or at least remove them from the Extensions Folder - both these files BEFORE restarting after doing the custom installation. All this applies to my 1999 PowerBook G3 Series running OS 9.1, which of course does NOT have any FireWire ports. I do not know if the two FireWire v2.0 files have the same devastating effect on Macs that do have FireWire ports, but installing obsolete software on FireWire-Macs probably won't do much good in any case..
