CuteClips 3.0 beta21 (Mac OS X)

Developer's site... / Trouble opening context menu on items in non-Cocoa applications!

Hello Karsten, 1. here on VT, clicking on "Developer's site" leads to nowhere, try <http://briksoftware.com/> instead. (Could not send this -- link disabled? Visually challenged?) 2. everytime I try to access the context menu on an item from INSIDE a non-Cocoa App, e.g. AppleWorx, it takes hours and days to react, freezes the machine (almost) and crashes CC3 in the end, giving the opportunity to send stuff to Karsten (He knows what, or should. I forgot. Too much bothering...), which I did. I don't know why this is so, but if you witch to e.g. Finder (in 10.4 at least) it does not crash, then choose whatever you wanted to choose, and switch back. Inconvenient, bothering, but possible. Maybe it helps tracking down what happens, maybe it all has to do with Dashboard...? I have no idea. Ciao, HTH Felix [alert admin]

PDFDek 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)

German package does not work properly (Fix suggested, also sent to Developer)

Hello, if you are using Mac OS X in German (... und falls Sie Deutsch als Standardsprache eingestellt haben! / if you set German as default language), please use the following fix: Select "Informationen" from the contextual menu, then in the "Info zu: PDFDek" window, goto "Sprachen", click on the usual arrow if necessary to show/unhide the languages, and UNselect the German language packet, thereby disabling it. Why? Because otherwise it simply does not work properly, clicking "Einstellungen" does NOT invoke the Preferences, so you have to stick to the default, which is JPG at 1.0 scale... Being English-only from then on, it works; there is only "one more thing" I realized: a) you can not "Cancel", as the settings are changed even so; b) "Cancel" is not possible via Escape nor Apple/Cmd-dot (".") <-- looks like a cute cat, doesn't it? ;))) As I wrote in the title, I e-mailed the developer, but I noticed the "Cancel" thing right now, so it is not in there... Ciao Felix PS: OK, so I am picky, but the progress bar is no help at all, since it finishes instantly before the output file is even there...! And then you sit there and wonder when the approx. 160 MB TIFF will be ready.... Then I rather have an annoying hourglass like in windows... ;))) OK, OK, still better than freezing the Mac! ;) [alert admin]

Nice but... NOT nicer than Preview.app!

Like someone wrote before, Preview DOES have a "Find" command. Maybe you were overlooking it because it is in a submenu in the "Edit" menu? ("Bearbeiten" in German.)

Plus:

  • it shows thumbnails;
  • shows table of contents,
  • fills in forms (no, but allows you);
  • forms can be saved filled-in;
  • image adjusting / cropping etc. --
  • there's much more that PREview has than POSTview IMHO. (See below...)

What was the advantage of Postview again? Viewing PS files without being converted to PDF before? OK, so…

PDFDek -- try "Scale Factor" in the settings!

... GrapicConverter, ahem. I am not sure what happens to multiple pages, have not tried yet. (About 2 minutes later:) I just did, it stays a multipage document, only rasterized. By default, ALL pages are saved (multi-page if possible, e.g. in TIFF); if unselected, then only the current. PDFDek saves every page as a single picture file. I think that is what most users want, and is quicker to use and setup than GC. (Have not considered GC's batch mode,…

PDFDek -- try "Scale Factor" in the settings!

As I wrote in the title: try "Scale Factor" in the settings! Then you could set the quality incredibly high... ;) Or open the PDF in GraphicConverter, it allows you to choose the dpi scaling beforehand, then you can/must save it to whatever needed. HTH, Felix

learntomac.com not available! -- Great Addition for Safari

It looks like the website learntomac.com is no longer available. The server is not responding. Is that a temporary outage, or has it moved? It is still owned by someone, though. Strange.

What is SAFT?

Just follow the link above to look on the developer's site (as yet it's still working), or take yourself the time to test it... BUT: this is a LITE version, seemingly including just a small subset for free; I recommend using the full «Demo» version, which is fully functional, except for reminders from time to time. Also I think this version is for OLDER Safari's ONLY... HTH, Dude. (Gosh — and I thought this is the WEB???)
