cd to... 2.3 (Mac OS X)

Very nice, I was just looking for something like this!

It keeps what it promises. – There's nothing more to say! [alert admin]

cd to... 2.3 (Mac OS X)

If 'cd to…' and Terminal.app open two windows…

… and you don't want that, just open Terminal.app, close all windows and save these nonexistent windows as a 'window group'. (Sounds strange, doesn't it? ;-)
Then change the Start-Preferences to start with this 'windows group'.
If you open Terminal.app with 'cd to…' now, it only opens one window, if you open Terminal.app by doubleclick or dock, it will still open a standard terminal window with pwd=userdir. Ulrich Kapp [alert admin]

Cyberduck 3.1 (Mac OS X)

Cyberduck is like the old Volkswagen Beatle…

There was a German commercial for the old VW Beatle, many years ago: "Er läuft und läuft und läuft…", which means it's reliable and robust. The same applys to Cyberduck. I use Cyberduck for more than 5 years now and I had once or twice a crash or misfunction in this long time. Thats better than any other software I know. So, five stars all over! [alert admin]

GlimmerBlocker 1.2 (Mac OS X)

The Best Add-Blocker I Tested So Far!

There's nothing more to say. Even the add-blocker which comes with iCab, which is really sophisticated, is not that effectve. 5 stars all over! [alert admin]

ToMacs 2.0 (Mac OS X)

Strange!

A freeware which costs 8 $ Wanted to try this, after I saw, that it must be registered and the developer wants to have eight dollar for it, I removed it immediately. It's not, that I wouldn't pay for software, but to put a softare into the freeware category and then demand for a payment, that's inacceptable! [alert admin]

NeoOffice 2.2.5 patch 2 (Mac OS X)

Non Standard User Interface

NeoOffice's credit always was, that it was the first OpenOffice implementation for Mac OS X. And it was the only one for a long time. But the flaw was some non standard things in the user interface, like using cmd-'arrow-left'/cmd-'arrow-right' instead of alt-'arrow-left'/alt-'arrow-right' to jump to the next/last word and following from this, cmd-'arrow-left'/cmd-'arrow-right' didn't the match the 'standard', which would be to go to the beginning or the end of the line. But now, there's OpenOffice 3 released for Mac OS X (nativ) and it is much faster and more stable than NeoOffice (on my INTEL iMac). And OpenOffice 3 complies the inofficial standards which are invented by M$ and accepted by most of the software developers and users. So, after many years using NeoOffice, I finally switched to OpenOffice 3 and I don't regret it. Regards, Ulrich [alert admin]

ScreenLock 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Where's the advantage of using this tool?

If you have 'fast user switching' enable, you can easily 'lock' your account by clicking on 'Login Window...' in the 'fast user switching'-menu. If I'm not wrong, it's exactly the same effect. So why install a piece of software, if you can use a built in function of the operating system? Regards Ulrich [alert admin]

Sequel Pro v0.9 (Mac OS X)

Good look and feel, no crashes so far!

The crashes were the problem of CocoaMySQL, so I made some tests under special conditions, where CocoaMySQL always crashed, like importing large database-dumps back into the server. Sequel Pro was stabel all over the test I made. No problems! Nice Software, and very useful, because of the really bad user interface of the original MySQL GUI applications for Mac OS X. iChm 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Best .chm viewer app for Mac OS X!

In the first version I had a problem with the PHP manual. The developer of iCHM fixed this over nigth and sent me a test version via email. Meanwhile you can load a German and Chinese localized version from his website. iCHM is not only a great app, it comes from a very kind and faithful developer. 5 stars all over!! [alert admin]

Deeper 1.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Very nice piece of Loepard software!

And half of the prooved features of OnyX.app (the othe half resides in Maintenance.app :-). Really recommendable if you only want to activate hidden features of Mac OS X 10.5, because OnyX.app does a time-consuming boot volume check on startup. [alert admin]

Shame that with the upgrade to Snow Leopard is doesn't work :-(

That's not true. In Finder, klick once on the PDFLab icon, choose "Information" from the menu "File" and check the "Open Using Rosetta"-checkbox. Close the Information-window and… tadah! - PDFLab is back alive!

free or not?

And, as far as I know, there's no 'donationware' option in Versiontracker.

free or not?

Donationware in fact is Freeware with the request of the developer to give some money, if you regularly use the software. But you're not forced to pay for it, there's no restriction if you use it without payment. There's a lot of freeware of this type outside, but most of the developer do not fill the price field.

Your first statement is correct, but the second is absolutely false. PGP isn't any standard, it is a product of the PGP Corporation. Very, very slow under some circumstances.

When you just installed LilyPond for the first time and you compile your first score sheet, then LilyPond builds up his font cache first, and this can take up to 10 minutes (depends on the speed of your Mac). Thats no problem, because…

A big leap in the wrong direction – and an alternative GUI suggestion.

> "... not everyone needs to produce an orchestral score."

But thats what LilyPond is primarily for, and you suggest to use Finale Notepad as a likewise free software in your feedback to LilyPond.

Your arguments are self-contradictory!

Pls. name only one free notation software wich can really reach LilyPonds features and stbility and I will apologise for my preceding posts.

Finale Notepad is neither a GUI for LilyPond nor it is an equivalent replacement. Period!
