xpy 0.8.13 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

Excellent Product

This is a really excellent and well thought out tool...all the changes it makes can be reversed from within the programme so there is no need to worry about usingit and no need to set a restore point before doing so either...it does have an FAQ and the developer is at pains to tell users not to blindly enable all settings...doing so will make ones computer rather a pain. If one were to block activeX from IE then one would not be able to use Microsoft updates for instance. Treated and used sensibly this tool is a boon. [alert admin]

OpenOffice 1.9.m71 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

Getting better all the time

OO is to finally have a database added in version 2 and with that it will finally have the necessary collection of programmes to adequately handle the needs of most companies as well as those of provate individuals. The speed of loading has improved version on version and the level of bugs (never high) has become less and less. A UK grammar checker is still missing but other than that there's no real need for M$ Office when you can have OO instead. The file formats are all open and thus transportability of data is maintained. Migration from M$ Office has become easier particularly in relationto the spreadsheet where the maximum number of cells has been increased to that of M$ Excel. All in all a product I feel happy to heartily recommend. Ease of use is as good as you can get with complex office software. [alert admin]

Manage Your Contacts 5.2.7 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

Hobbled Trial Version

The free version is limited to only 10 entries and is thus next to useless. There are three pay to use version and all but the most expensive is also limited in the entries it can store...not freeware in anything but the loosest possible meaning of the term. [alert admin]

WinAce 2.6.0.4 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

So So product

There's nothing terribly bad about WinAce...save, perhaps, the price. It doesn't offer much that can't be had or improved upon by freeware products with the excption of its own proprietary Ace format. Its compression ratios and speed with other formats are nothing special at all (7Zip is faster and has a better compression ratio with ZIP files...tugzip and alzip cover the other formats better than does WinAce and again are faster and offer better compression ratios...all are freeware). Ace format files can be decompressed by other products than WinAce but only Win Ace can compress files in this proprietary format...unless you particularly eed this format for compression purposes I can see no reason to pay for this product. Warez P2P Client 2.4 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

Ares plus an adbar

This client is merely the Ares P2P client with an additional adbar. Ares does come with an advertising packaga (nav helper) but you are able to opt out of it during installation or remove it later. I can't see any reason why one would use the Warez P2P client...a rip off. [alert admin]

EscapeClose Pro 1.6 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

Wrong again

Yet again a software product is incorrectly listed. This item is NOT freeware; it costs money to keep using it after a 10 day trial version has expired. There is a free, vastly cut down, version of escape close (called Escape Close) and from the same developer but this is the full pro version and is shareware (about $20). On the basis that it is out of the correct category and thus misleading at besat I've rated as low as possible although the software is good quality and useful (the shareware version is far too expensive for what it does). Stick with the free version downloadable from the developer's site. [alert admin]

Not Freeware!

Sorry to spoil the fun but this ISN'T freeware...free trial for 120 days then $29.95 for updates for a year. Rated low as it is out of the correct category. [alert admin]

KaZaA Lite Plus 1.0 (Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000)

Spyware and Adware Galore

Please don't be fooled by claims on the software providers website; this programme is as riddled with malware as the Kazaa Media Desktop...get Kazaa Lire Resurrection instead that is clean. [alert admin]
