iPoker 4.1.1 (Mac OS X)

iPoker does not misevaluate poker hands.

Dear iPoker Customers, I'm going to politely reiterate that no version of iPoker miscalls or misevaluates winning hands such as Three-of-a-Kind, as reported on this site. I'll also apologize for using the word "ridiculous" in a previous response. I admit that was unprofessional of me. Short of a corrupt game file, the only way you can force iPoker to do this is via the Game Rules dialog, Showdown pane, Legal Hands list. If you were to uncheck the box next to 3-of-a-Kind in that list, for example, then Two Pair would indeed beat Three-of-a-Kind. Why does this advanced feature exist? Because iPoker ships with 101 poker game files and some of those games' rules employ non-standard poker hands, like "Little Bobcats" and Straights- or Flushes-only. iPoker 4.1 did introduce a change to the hand rankings for 3-Card Poker that necessitated an update to the game file format. So it's also possible that if you didn't follow the instructions on my http://scenario.com/iPoker/downloads pages, you could wind up with an incompatible set of game files. The 4.1.1 Updater does not include these games files. So if you suspect this might be the problem, simply download the current version of the full iPoker Installer as explained on my site. Incidentally, that's the problem with sites like VersionTracker and MacUpdate. They prefer to use direct links to the installers without providing enough context for which installation method you should choose. If, after all of this, you still suspect a problem in iPoker 4, please contact me via scenario@mac.com and I'll be happy to investigate. You can include a screen shot of the hand in question by pausing the action during the showdown, either by clicking the deck or by typing Command-P for Pause. Then use the Mac's standard screen-shot facility: Command-Shift-3 or 4. You can also include a copy of the current game file being played, along with iPoker's Preferences file. Thanks, Todd Ouzts Scenario Software [alert admin]

iPoker 3.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Re: What is up with this AI?

The bug mstratton so eloquently mentions below was fixed a couple versions ago. I would prefer to get bug reports directly so I can actually fix them -- even if you aren't a paying customer <ahem, mstratton> and could only find this bug by pirating my product. [alert admin]

v4 is Crap

Ridiculous. You are probably just not familiar with how side pots are handled in poker. Versions 3 and 4 do not have a problem miscalling winning hands. Not unless the user intentionally modifies a game file to ignore three-of-a-kind, for example. I have no bug reports about anything like this and I have tested thousands of hands to insure it is not a problem. If you find a showdown that is miscalled, send a screen shot…

Frustratingly poor review

Perhaps you missed the prompt in the main window that clearly says, "Game paused. Click the deck to play." Or the standard File Open menu that says, "Open Another Game...". Or the Rules menu command that says, "Reset Standings". Perhaps?

low hands often wrongly calculated

I'm investigating this issue, but please understand that this does NOT affect the 101 games that ship with iPoker. Not at all. Yours is a very custom game (almost a "test case") that no one else really plays and one that you'll not find in any poker book. With so many thousands of possible permutations to test, I do appreciate reports like this when sent directly to me.

See version 3.4.1 for two fixes that should make you feel a little better about buying a Mac with such a small screen...

Review

My download page clearly lists the System Requirements for iPoker: 1024 x 768 display or larger. However, there may be something I can do in the next release to support 800 x 600.

Link broken...

Please try again. I had to repost it about 5 PM to work around an Installer bug.
