Adobe GoLive 9.0 (Mac OS X)
So far, the feedback on GoLive 9 doesn't seem to be coming from people who actually used it. This is not the old GoLive. It does bear some resemblances, but is much changed. That will probably annoy people who don't like change, but it might come as a welcome improvement to people accustomed to Photoshop, and it is certainly a leap forward from the old GoLive. In many ways, the new GUI reminds me of Photoshop. I'm not even sure it should be called by its old name. It would be more accurate to call it version one of a completely new, advanced WYSIWG website authoring program, inspired by the old GoLive and Photoshop. It looks like it was rewritten from the ground up. Yet they have made it similar enough to GoLive CS (v8) that one who is familiar with the last version, can pretty much muddle through and get a website built without having to take the time off to restudy and learn a whole new interface. GoLive 9 seems to be designed for the likes of me. There is so much new stuff, I feel like a kid in a candy store. The way it handles color, the way it handles text, CSS, layers, tables and so on, just blows me away. I'm currently working on the most complicated website job I have ever tackled. A repurpose of something that was designed in inDesign for print and pdf. Everything about it resists turning it into a website. I don't think I could have done it with the old version. I would not have even tried with Dreamweaver, as it would have been completely beyond my knowledge of code. But GoLive 9, despite my unfamiliarity with what amounts to a brand new program, is turning out to be up to the job. There is even a new version of the "Menu Machine" extend script that works seamlessly with it, and has let me build a complex multi-level dropdown menu without having to know any Javascript. So, me, I'm glad there is an alternative to Dreamweaver. I've used both, and was even on the beta testing team of Dreamweaver, way back when, but Dreamweaver seems more slanted toward coders than artists and designers, and I'm an artist. It was too technical for me. I can look under the hood and tweak code when I have to, and I've had to do that a couple of times with this but I'd rather work with a program that doesn't demand it quite so much. I really hope Adobe continues to develop GoLive. Doug [alert admin]

REALVIZ Stitcher 5.5 (Mac OS X)
I bought Stitcher Express a few months ago, and it was pretty good for what it does, but it doesn't handle 16 bit color. So I've sent them two emails asking if the new version 2 does, but they have not answered at all. They sent me some promo advertising their new versions, but no answer to my questions. Does not make for confidence. So I looked elsewhere, and, for basic multi-row panos, I found a little app that does support 16 bit, is Kekus' Calico. Very nice, no nonsense, and only $39. Macromedia Contribute 3.1 (Mac OS X)
I had read some encouraging comments about Contribute, but now that I have tried it, I suspect those commentators were encouraged because there was nothing better to compare it with, and there should be. Like,a Model T Ford would be really impressive if one had never driven a 2005 Mustang. Or BMW or whatever your vice is. Also, it crashed on me and disconnected from the website, when I tried to add a page. Maybe I advanced the spark too far. [alert admin]

Expat Converter 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Well, I have left it there. After un-zipping, it is a folder called "ExpatConverterOSX Folder", and inside it is a folder named "__MACOSX" with nothing in it, and an apparent executable called "ExpatConverterOSX", and when I click on that, I get a notice that says: "There is no default application to open the 'ExpatConverterOSX' ". So, uh, I asked awhile ago, "how do you install it?", but maybe that is not the right question. Maybe I should ask "What am I doing wrong?". Can you answer that? [alert admin]

DiscBlaze 4.3.7 (Mac OS X)
I don't know what to say. The last poster claims he got good support. That has not been my experience. I purchased DiskBlaze back in 2003, and liked it very much. But one of the OSX updates caused it to not work anymore. DiskBlaze Support said it was because Apple wasn't supporting my burner anymore. I was not pleased, but I couldn't do anything about it, so I had to accept that. Recently I bought a new G5, and thought I'd be all set to use DiskBlaze again, but when I downloaded the latest version, it would not accept my registration number. It gave me the error message "INVALID". I e-mailed DiskBlaze support <blaze@radicalbreeze.com> twice, explaining it, and asking for help. They did not answer. Or maybe the spam filter got the reply and they didn't answer the challenge. I don't know. I'd just like to be able to use the software I bought. [alert admin]

Animation:Master 11.1c (Mac OS X)
It is true that Animation:Master has a learning curve. It is also an excellent 3D program, with which you can do excellent work, and which does not cost an arm and a leg. [alert admin]

Well, I thought DiskBlaze was great when I first got it, but after OSX 10.3, it started giving me a message that my burner was not supported. I've checked out every update since then, including this one, but it still does it. :-( What a drag. [alert admin]

That's because this is not an upgrade of GoLive 7 or 8 or anything else. I think you can get an "upgrade" price, but GoLive 9 new code .

Nobody7 already said that about an earlier version. It's a good little app., nobody, but if you can't afford it, and can do better, write a competing one, and offer it for five dollars.

Maybe with some browsers. But IE won't let you delete certain cookies. Try it. Cookie Dog makes it possible to delete the ones IE can't bear to part with.
