Play With Pictures 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)
Alert! Requires some license manager to even run the trial!
Alert to all who would like to try out this application: When first launched the following dialog pops up: "The “NalpeironDaemonVb” license manager must be installed and running in order for this software to run. Would you like to install it now?" In my case, the answer is a resounding "Not only 'NO,' but 'hell, no.' " There's no way that I'm going to let a demo or trial copy of an application install something else, something that I've never even heard of until that point. If the publisher is reading VT, I'd strongly recommend eliminating that bit of unnecessary hassle and frustration from the demo version. You can do what you like to protect your software once I've bought it, but at least let me evaluate it without draconian measures that involve a third party's "license manager." No recommended for those who want to check out the demo. [alert admin]

Stellar Phoenix Mac Data Recovery - Bootable Disk 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Warning: do not purchase "beta" software
It is never a good idea to fund companies by purchasing software that is still in pre-release (beta) stages of development. Wait for the actual release and wait for some reviews to come out before you make a purchase of this magnitude. Be wary of marketing write-ups like the above that look like they were written by someone in Kashmir - full of grammatical and spelling mistakes; the actual code may be as badly written as the hype. Sounds like a product line of years ago, called "Miracle." The marketing hype stated: "If it works, it's a Miracle." Same here perhaps? If it works, it's Stellar? [alert admin]

Fluid Mask 3.0.9 For Mac (Mac OS X)
The product might be extremely valuable and well-coded, and all, but to categorize a $200+ app as "shareware" is a little disingenuous. [alert admin]

Blueball Cubicle Sandvox Designs 5.0 (Mac OS X)
I'd think twice about the name of your company...
...or perhaps you've never had the condition known as "blueballs." From an online dictionary: "A painful testicular sensation felt when a man becomes sexually aroused repeatedly or persistently without release...the scrotum actually darkens to a purplish blue." Just a word of caution here... [alert admin]

How about listing "what's new" in the VT description so we know what to look for? [alert admin]

CleanMyMac 0.8 (Mac OS X)
get 404 error when trying to purchase this product, etc
The trial won't let me do much more than clean a few 4kb files even though it says there's some 1.8GB that can be cleaned after scanning. I clicked on the purchase link (cleanmymac.com) and got a 404 error. I went to the VT developer link and got to a place called MacPaw, where only the home page showed up. Clicking on the purchase or support tabs there linked back to the home page. If the developer wants to lose customers, who am I to prevent it. I'll just delete the trial and move elsewhere. I thought that type of link behavior was forbidden on VT. I'm certainly not going to pay for the privilege of downloading a bit of trialware, and most definitely refuse to pay for "beta" software a la M$. [alert admin]

Fantasktik 1.0 (Mac OS X)
I really like this app and I think it has the potential to be one of those "must have" utilities. In addition to the "wish list" items that "jspectre" notes below, I'd like to see this work with Leopard's Spaces. It currently only shows up in one space (it's a Prefs Pane so you can't add it to the Spaces list). I contacted the developer and they're aware of this limitation and are trying to pry some API stuff loose from Apple so it will work within the Spaces framework. The developer was very responsive and is eager to satisfy users who submit suggestions. I'm going to purchase this quite soon. It's quite a helpful and novel addition. [alert admin]

I've learned through the years that the more words in all caps and the more multiple exclamation points in a comment, the less likely it is to be rational, accurate, or educated. The whole post looks like the hundreds of spam emails that I've seen cross my desk, not to mention the thousands of print junk mail that gets delivered to my mailbox. Also, no sane person would simply throw away their own critical thinking…

PHP? What PHP? Is that an added hidden requirement? It was certainly not listed in the VT description under "Additional Requirements." If PHP is needed, then please clearly state so it will save us the trouble of downloading in we don't want to get into PHP stuff.

I, too, like to have this control back. I read somewhere when Tiger came out that this was a conscious decision on Apple's part for obscure reasons that I don't understand.
