MindVision Installer VISE Lite 3.6 (Mac OS 9)
me, but it looks like MindVision has just about abandoned this. The interface needs some serious updating, and although this is a pretty good product for basic purposes, it's really falling behind the full version of VISE fast. [alert admin]

piece of crap! The installation took FOREVER to mop up, and mopping up was needed for Toast to function correctly. Lesse, last incident I recall where a company put out a popular product which caused another popular one to be dysfunctional was Microsoft vs. DR-DOS! Let's see... SoundJam and Toast, or iTunes? SoundJam and Toast! [alert admin]

Quiver 1.2 (Mac OS 9)
with Carve, and Hollow Out isn't too great either. Partial surface paint feature doesn't even exist. Nonetheless, I don't think I could have made a better map editor. A bit of a warning though: The maps are a lot better if you export a .map file and construct the BSPs with eQBSP, Tyrlite, and eVIS, which you can get at http://www.planetquake.com/paroxysm/ [alert admin]

OverDose 1.0d1 (Mac OS 9)
work. Obviously this is a preview version. A bit unstable, and some stuff just plain doesn't work. Most notably, resizing items changes the frame size, but not the size of the "preview" object within. Also, no close box on the layout windows means I have to leave open my in-progress interfaces. MacJikes seems to work fine. $25 seems a bit steep, especially since I can design my interfaces in this, export the code, then compile with another javac tool. Java coders, try JaDE. [alert admin]

ChessWorks 2.5.1 (Mac OS 9)
ever tried writing a chess AI? If you had, you'd know why there's no solo play! [alert admin]

Sim Theme Park 2.0.4b3 (Mac OS 9)
a crawl once a park gets very big. The rollercoaster composer is buggy, and creates "knots" constantly. Crashes at an obscene rate. Oh, and to top it all off, it has deleted ALL of my saved games at least 3 times. Sucky sucky sucky! [alert admin]

to turn colors off? I find it very annoying that users can't seem to talk to each other without using some funky 24pt font with blue text on an orange background. Kill the ads, dammit! If you want a REAL IM proggy/protocol, try ICQ or YM. Oh, almost forgot.... "everyone uses AIM". If you MUST use this crappy communications system, do yourself a favor by clicking in the search field near the top of this page, type "AIMM", and hit Enter. [alert admin]

MP3 Rage 3.9.2 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
but I'd prefer "specialized" programs for certain operations. The Napster client doesn't stay connected: It reconnects every time I want to do a search, which sucks. Doesn't do pings either, so it's hard to hunt those "14.4" liars that give me such good speeds. The MP3 player uses QuickTime, which I think the developers should replace with something else. MP3 decoder source code is all over the internet, so there's no real excuse there. The Gnutella client works great... too bad Gnutella hogs so much bandwidth, even on my cable modem. The ID3 tag editor couldn't be better. I'll stay with MacNapster and SoundJam for playback and download, and Scouter for non-MP3 downloads. If you're looking for a Gnutella client that doesn't suck though, this is the way to go. [alert admin]

Apple DVD-ROM Firmware 1.1 (Mac OS 9)
speed should not be affected by any firmware updates. DVD-ROM audio extraction is significantly faster than MP3 encoding, so if you want iTunes to encode fast, then you'll have to go get yourself a new computer. Better yet, since you're a G4 user, go get DropMP3 or any other encoder that uses the Altivec-optimized LAME SharedLib. [alert admin]

BluIP 1.4.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
If I want my IP, I can open my TCP/IP panel and look. If I want it as standard text, I can open Note Pad, type it, select, and copy. [alert admin]
