HDRtist 1.0 (Mac OS X)
HRDtist is a simple, fun program for the beginning HDR photography artist. It has only one control, a slider, which sets one of four tone mapping algorithms (or a blend of any two contiguous algorithms). The Save command is slow as the program apparently re-renders the blended image, re-applies the chosen algorithm, and writes to disk. (Ref: 24" iMac 2.8 GHz Intel Core Duo Extreme). Fun to use for quick looks but if you need more control, look to other products. [alert admin]

Bento 2.0v5 (Mac OS X)
...are never fixed. Where's tab order control? Where's styled text (of late 90's vintage!)? Great if the disastrous calendar issue is (finally) fixed. Haven't tested that; I'm chicken and waiting for others to be brave. [alert admin]

OmniGraffle Pro 5.0 (Mac OS X)
Upgrade for Pro v4 to Pro v5 is too steep ![]()

I love OmniGroup software, and like others whole-heartedly upgraded Pro v3 to Pro v4; but, I cannot justify retaining the Pro version for $74.95 additional. I'd willingly upgrade for $49.95 (or less, of course), however. And, I'm not comfortable with "downgrading" to the standard version because my Visio file relations were OK in Pro v4 and I'm afraid of the capability downgrade for upgrade price of Standard v5 at ~$32. Why not reconsider the upgrade price to keep your loyal Mac OS X users coming back in years to come? Drop it to $49.95 now, perhaps offer a time-limited downgrade in the Pro to Pro upgrade price? Acquisition 132.7 (Mac OS X)
Long, Lifetime Registered User Ignored
I've used Acquisition for years under Mac OS 10.3.x. Always I would recommend it for P2P business. I recently upgraded to mac OS 10.4.8 and now Acquisition "loads core components" which apparently make it operate better...(over the network?, on my computer OS?). However, I can no longer download because of the "router ports need to be configured" issue in the Preferences...Network pane. I've follow all the advice for non Airport routers (mine's a Linksys router...worked just find pre-10.4.x use). The software changed it's operation under 10.4.x, it's now not operating as before (no downloading), and I've sent several emails to the feedback@acquisitionx.com address in the application...and...NO RESPONSE from the developer, David Watanabe. Wow, don't I feel appreciated as a paid customer. (Maybe, if I'm lucky, he's on vacation and I'll get a response tomorrow.) [alert admin]

OmniGraffle Pro 4.0 (Mac OS X)
New User, but it's Greek to me
I've played with OmniGraffle since it first appeared along side Mac OS X. I decided it was time to buy a pro license when version 4.0 was released. I love the program, except how it handles fonts. Maybe it's me, maybe it's Mac OS X, but I can't seem to get it to display the font Symbol in the Greek characters one would expect from today's GUI. What I mean is that I might already type the text in a text object, then activate the Fonts Inspector and select any of the fonts to see the text change font style, except the native Mac Symbol font. It doesn't change from a Roman font to the Greek font. I've used the International system pane menu to select Greek, and if I create a new text object and type, it's Greek (or Symbol) characters; however, if I change that text to, say, Times using the Fonts Inspector, it stays Greek! Is it me, or is this non-Mac program-like behavior in OmniGraffle? Overall the program is near perfect but this simple break from 11 plus years of Mac GUI computing is frustrating. [alert admin]

Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
I've been using version 2.0 of PSE for over a year. I have to agree with many others on the value/dollar. PSE (Photoshop Elements) is by far the best package for anyone (save perhaps the top-end pro digitial photographer/artist). I've been a huge Canvas fan since the early days of 3.x. I have 8.x now (and won't go to 9.x because of the direction the company moved the product) and it's got a steep learning curve but it can be used to produce the common 90% of effects on digital images. (Most of this comes from the v. 6.x - 8.x attempts to make it "behave" like PS or PSE.)
PSE 2.x introduced those ~ 90% effects with almost "point-n-click" simplicity. It did this so well that I've all but abandoned Canvas 8.x. I'm looking very forward to PSE 3.x and hope the added, advertised features make PSE the only tool I need.
I suppose the only other contender might be Graphic Converter (GC) however I can't offer any advice on this shareware program...other than to say, it probably should move to commercial-ware as it's been around long enough to be well-respected in the Mac OS community. From what I've seen of the demos, it's got the best I/E (import/export) capability but honestly anything other than the standard .jpg, .gif., .tif, .png, or .pdf file formats are useless to me. Documents To Go Premium Edition 7.002 (Mac OS X)
I've been using 6.008 Premium to carry documents on my Palm Tungsten T3 between my home Mac OS X and my work Windows 2000 Pro boxes. I paid to upgrade to the Premium version from the basic version built into the ROM of the T3. The new features certainly don't justify $49 upgrade. Once 6.008 is obsolete for me, I too will probably look for another solution. Dataviz...hope you read the comments and lower the price. $29 is more reasonable. [alert admin]

Toast Titanium 6.0.7 (Mac OS X)
Patch My Software...yeah, right
As Bingo points out, just type (copy and paste) this address in your browser for the standalone updater: http://softwareupdates.roxio.com/gm/updaters/mac/toast/titanium/v6/toast_ti_607_update.sit I agree with the other posts, Roxio...get with the program. Make the updater work only if there is a registered version of the software on the computer. Do away with the .jhtml download link that lauches Safari (I'm using IE Mac) and presents me with an endless, white page, necessitating a force quit out of Safari. [alert admin]

Toast Titanium 6.0.5 (Mac OS X)
Direct Link...but need your CD-KEY
I was having trouble remembering my login and password so I looked for a direct link to the download, which is http://softwareupdates.roxio.com/gm/updaters/mac/toast/titanium/v6/toast_ti_605_update.sit but once downloaded, mounted from the .dmg, and opened, you'll need to re-enter your CD-Key. So, if you maintain that type of information, you can bypass Roxio's .jhtml method of upgrading. It worked fine for me. [alert admin]

Well, even though you couldn't get the print margins to "take" in any version 2.0.6 or earlier, now with version 2.0.7, the program doesn't even open (on Mac OS 10.2.8). Great job Nova Development. Perhaps the company's name reflects its software stability...Development. Why did I buy their product? [alert admin]
