Camino 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)
This is my default browser. I think the only reason so many people use Safari is because it's the default out of the box. Same with IE on Windows. With Camino, you can get some of the features that you'd have to pay for with Saft for Safari. You can nitpick a few missing features, and obviously it doesn't have Firefox extensions, but overall it's quite good and it's a real Mac application. I just wish they had more resources to develop Camino, it's slow going. Until OmniWeb gives me a good enough reason to pony up, I expect to stick with it for a while. Be sure to get CamiTools to add some preference panes, the developer stopped updating it but I assume someone will pick it up -- it should just be incorporated into Camino. [alert admin]

Delibar 0.8.2 bis (Mac OS X)
It works again with the new del.icio.us API. Does what it's supposed to do. Maybe not the most convenient way to navigate your bookmarks, but for now I just wanted a way to have my bookmarks in the menubar, and this does the trick. [alert admin]

LaunchBar 4.1.1 (Mac OS X)
I discovered LaunchBar before Quicksilver, so I was quite willing to pay for it. I then gave Quicksilver a try. It seems you can do a lot more with QS, but I don't end up using most of its capabilities. What I really need is a quick and easy-to-use launcher that stays out of the way when I don't need it. I've found that LB works better for me and is more stable as well. I just hope the developer doesn't start charging too often for upgrades, otherwise QS may start to look more attractive. Pukka 1.3 (Mac OS X)
A simple way to post to del.icio.us, worth the $5. Just use a bookmarklet, and it'll put in the title, URL, and selected text. Includes auto-completion for tags, and an option for private links. I'm hoping a future version will allow private by default, and have it clear out tags in the drop-down menu that no longer exist (unless there's a way to do this already) [alert admin]

Yep 1.1b1 (Mac OS X)
I believe it's called pik now. I couldn't get the 1.1 beta either. This is a very good concept, maybe I shouldn't get too used it though, with the developer planning to charge $49. I'm not that familiar with DevonThink, I wonder how these compare. Who knows, maybe Leopard will allow tagging of files. [alert admin]

Apple Keynote 3.0.1v2 (Mac OS X)
Luckily the spinning beachball is so much fun to play with, I see it a lot with this app. [alert admin]

HistoryHound 1.9.2 (Mac OS X)
A great tool for finding previously visited web pages. Most browsers have history functions that are virtually useless, but HistoryHound works well. I just wish there was an option to turn on indexing when the computer is idle (like Macaroni does for OS X maintenance), since it takes a lot of CPU to perform. Right now, as far as I can tell you can only schedule it for every X minutes. [alert admin]

I'm not sure if it's necessary to have the menu come up instantaneously. For the shorcuts that you learn, you probably don't want the menu all the time. But I agree the trial is a little ridiculous, it shows all shortcuts for the first 10 uses, then shows "????" for most of them. I used it up in a few minutes of testing. I should still be able to decide if I want to buy…

Interesting story, you should post the emails. I've asked questions on the Camino forum without any problems.

I have to agree. I just discovered this app and my first impression was it's butt-ugly. It's a pretty simple interface, wouldn't be too difficult to streamline the appearance a bit. That isn't a dealbreaker, I still intend to consider the features carefully when I get a chance (unfortunately my first glance at the documentation was a little discouraging), but there are a lot of competitors that I'm also considering or use already.

As I use this app more, I should amend my comment. After the initial index, subsequent indexing is not really an issue. However, searching within a large database is quite slow. Still, I like the app.

Why are you using a computer? Along with your pen, you can use snail mail instead of e-mail, and get your news from newspapers. Also, use lined paper instead of Excel.
