Sophos Anti-Virus 7.1.0 (Mac OS X)
A couple of bugs to watch out for
We've had a site-license for Sophos for years now. There are a couple of things about 7.1 to watch out for: 1) Minor thing -- when you "Scan My Mac" -- the log will report "corrupt files" for any *alias* on your hard disk. Sophos said this will eventually be fixed. 2) If you use Retrospect to back up client machines -- be aware that having Sophos 7's "on access scanner" active will add a *lot* more time to the "scanning" of your client computers prior to backup. In some cases -- on client machines with a lot of files -- it adds over an hour to the scan of the computer prior to backup. Backup speeds are about the same. This has also been escalated to both EMC and Sophos (and the fault is Sophos, IMO as Sophos 4.9 did not have this issue...) with no resolution as yet. I can't say that there would be the same issue with any other backup software out there, though... [alert admin]

Citrix ICA Client X 7.00.406 (Mac OS X)
My main problem with Citrix -- they never post what bugs are fixed to their clients. It's all trial-and-error to see if any bugs are addressed or not. [alert admin]

Anybody figure out how to update from 6.0.3 to 6.0.3a?
Running this 6.0.3a installer asks to find a copy of 6.0.2 to update. Well, if you already installed the "bad: 6.0.3, how do you update to 6.0.3a? [alert admin]

This does not patch Distiller -- which doesn't fix the PDFMaker bug!
Sheesh -- the "PDFMaker.xla" but that affects Office 2004 SP1? Sure --patch Acrobat Professional to 6.0.3 -- that updates the PDFMaker.xla file to one dated 12/8/04 when you run it. But the 6.0.3 patch doesn't touch Acrobat Distiller -- that stays at 6.0.2 So, if you run *Distiller*, it replaces the PDFMaker.xla file with the bad 5/6/04 version. Nice job Adobe Q/A! Not. The good: It fixes the "PDFMaker.xls" conflict with Office 2004 SP1. Only two months late, but finally here! The bad: the update isn't (yet?) available from running "check for updates" from within the Acrobat programs. The ugly: The stupid installer leaves an "Updater" folder on the root level of the hard disk for no reason. Where's the QA department here? [alert admin]

Please test with Windows File Sharing on!
If anybody tries this, can you please test the following (as I have crashes here that I've reported, but that NAI can *not* reproduce). On *every computer I install this on* -- including clean installs of OSX and Virex 7.5.1rc only: If I turn Windows File Sharing on -- the computer will eventually panic -- sometimes the same day, sometimes after a couple of days -- frequently over the weekend. (We run no firewall on the Mac or building here, either.) If you test this app, I ask a big favor: Can you turn Windows File Sharing on if you normally don't have it on when you test this? NAI can not reproduce my crashes (even though it happens on an OS-only machine!) and says "we've received no other reports on this". But it's crashed 100% of the machines I've put this on here. They seem to be choosing to treat my bug report as an anomaly. So, they need more bug reports that this exists elsewhere. Believe me, you won't want to roll this out if the problem is still there as it will bring down your machines repeatedly... [alert admin]

401(ok) 0.1 (Mac OS X)
Since you asked: does anyone care? Sure, I care. If you can get it to do this, that would be great! [alert admin]

Virex X 7.2.1 (Mac OS X)
This announcement is geared at announcing the "corporate" version of 7.2.1 -- not the ".Mac" version. That said: it's terribly slow. It frequently terminates a scan of a hard disk from the GUI (but scanning via the command line goes OK.) The fact that it *still* does not have an on-access scanner is amazing. What's the point? The auto-update feature *does* work, though. [alert admin]

Great app. Great concept. My only feature request would be the ability to manually enter "favorites" that aren't being published by the on-line database. [alert admin]

QuickPopup X 4.0 (Mac OS X)
one star. *current* download fixes the "login items" bug. Only minus one star for not being able to see QP 3.0 clients from QP 4.0 (and vice versa). Excellent app! [alert admin]

Agreed -- the previous Client Editor had a section about "Encryption" in the "security" tab. This is missing -- which may mean that any connection profiles have to be modified manually or something. Problem is Citrix's support is not that great, so you might not get a quick answer if/when you ask about stuff like this...

I don't work for the company, but maybe they just modified the "sale" version of the program for the public? We have a site-licensed version and the current build is at 4.8.4 -- it automatically updates to the current version when Sophos releases it.

FM customer service said (when I e-mailed them about this): We found an error in the FileMaker Pro 8.0v2 and FileMaker Pro 8.0 v2 Advanced updater for the Mac OSX. We will be re-releasing the updater before the end of the year. We do apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused. If you have already downloaded the updater, and are not a Volume Licensing Customer, or are on the Windows OS, you may continue…
