StepMania 3.9a20 (Mac OS X)
I tried running the installer on Mac OS X 10.3.4, and it won't install? It just displays a dialog saying "the tool /usr/bin/gunzip" does not exist, and then it aborts the install... wth? What gives? [alert admin]

Eudora 5.2b10 (Mac OS 9)
to know is whether or not they've finally gotten rid of the YEARS OLD problem with all versions of eudora that affects every mac and every version of the MacOS I've used (from performas to iMacs, and from 7.5 to 9.2) whereupon when the program is quitted it often corrupts memory of other programs (most frequently web browsers or IM programs), resulting in an extreme crash ALWAYS requiring a restart, which I have logged with macsbug even with default extensions and VM on/off (one stdlog of each setup) and sent to them years ago only to receive no response. TideText 1.0 (Mac OS X)
plain text editor for OS X but it sure would be nice if it just worked the same as simpletext: 1: use regular MAC linefeeds (open a tidetext edited file with linefeeds in simpletext, you'll see), and 2: SAVE EDITED FILES AS TIDETEXT TEXT FILES... as it is now they just become anonymous "document" files and won't re-open with tidetext upon doubleclicking [alert admin]

HORRIBLE! It has a MASSIVE incompatibility with Earthlink Speedstream 5360 DSL modems; if you have one of these modems (provided by Earthlink for their DSL service which is even PROMOTED BY APPLE) DO NOT USE THIS OS! Stay with 9.0.4 or 9.1 (which has the problem but VERY rarely by comparison) ... with 9.2.2 just about EVERY time that classic is started while that modem is connected open transport will cause a "bus error" (with macsbug it reports a problem with NQDGetPort; an OT command) and when booting up from 9.2.1/9.2.2 it gets the same crash about 50% of the time unless you disconnect your modem EVERY TIME that you want to boot/restart or start classic with one of these OS's, 9.1 is far more stable and boots faster and starts faster in classic too, Apple should have never done something as despicable as disabling newer macs from being able to run 9.1 without fixing the numerous bugs in newer OS's first! Apple Mac OS X 10.1.3 (Mac OS X)
this release seems to be that anything that uses OpenGL (Tranquility, Plasma tunnel, IGS Twisted) no longer has the 20-30fps/4fps speed "switching" that seemed evident in 10.1, BUT Apple still has not fixed the problem with slot-loading iMacs that make many screensavers and 3D games crash very often (try myth 3 or warcraft 3 or "Marine Aquarium" on a slot-loading iMac in OS X, you'll see). The text smoothing for new carbon apps certainly looks nice for mozilla BUT it runs MUCH slower, like seemingly 3-4 times slower at scrolling than it does in 10.1 using quickdraw, must be because quartz doesn't use hardware accel yet. Aside from those this thing is nothing but problems, as others have mentioned I also have noticed occasional AIM/ICQ crashes, and also seemingly every MP3 player other than iTunes 2.0.4 crash a LOT (music will suddenly stop or skip in older iTunes/Air whisper/Mint audio, the app stops responding, other apps stop responding and clicking in them crashes them etc. requires restart, but the MP3 players problem seems to occur in 10.1 too so it's nothing new, but the fact it's still not fixed is bad)... they have a long way to go to reach the "rock solid" stability they claim, be it most crashes occuring now are due to low-level commands issued by drivers which are still buggy and incomplete. xAudic 0.20 (Mac OS X)
on OS X 10.1 or later, not sure why it isn't updated here, but it can be obtained from the developer's site here: http://www.xaudic.net/Download.htm [alert admin]

goes and makes a whole modern OS from the ground up with pre-emptive multitasking and such, and for what? To turn around and release a program that defeats the purpose of said multitasking by hogging CPU cycles from other programs? As I recall, the whole point of this new OS was to be that programs could no longer "tie up" resources that other programs need... even though it's using about 30-40% of the CPU and the whole 100% of the CPU usage is nowhere near reached, I'm witnessing what feels like all performance of all applications cut in half as long as iTunes is running and playing any MP3 OR CD audio (the latter of which shouldn't even use *any* CPU, be it that cd players are designed to be able to route audio directly to the speakers, which would also mean NO SKIPPING!) ... I am just appalled that apple would release such a shoddy MP3/CD player for their own modern OS. [alert admin]

iCab 2.7.1 (Mac OS 9)
king of the hill now, with Chimera (an OS X-native mozilla clone) leaving a trail of flame in its wake soon to pass by even Mozilla, Opera and IE are at least TRYING to catch up (though constantly "crashing" into walls along the way), and iCab, well, it's just kinda sitting there watching them all race off in the distance faster and more powerful than it could ever hope to be. It was a good idea, but it just never followed through. Here lies iCab, 1999-2002, R.I.P [alert admin]

AliasMultiplier X 2.5v2 (Mac OS X)
be accomplished for free, just open the "script editor" for applescript, click record, open the files you want to open, then stop recording and save the applescript as an application, and that way works in every MacOS that uses applescript, including OS X 10.0, 9.0, 8.0... [alert admin]

Reaktor 3.07.008 (Mac OS 9)
app isn't even listed in the OS X section, so yeah, duh it's a classic app, seriously if you're checking updates for classic Mac OS apps, there's no sense in criticizing them for not being for OS X, it makes about as much sense as giving PC apps bad reviews and saying "this should be available for mac! booo!", reviews should be based upon how well the product does its job, not which OS it runs on, sheesh!
