Camino 1.6.1 (Mac OS X)

My browser of Premium Choice

I eventually got tired of wauting for pages t load in Firefox 3.01 and went BACK to my longtime fave, Camino. This version, 1.6.1 has been a peach for me (10.4.10, PPC, 1.5 ghz PowerBook). Fast, stable and zero problems. Pages where Firefox choked, this thing is in within moments. Yes, it is true that there are very few add-ons for Camino, but as far as I can see it, it is about the same in that department as Safari, only with several UI modifications available. I'm sorry to here the other poster here having problems. These things can be weird. [alert admin]

Firefox 3.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Lunchbag Let-down . . .

As an ardent ex-Safari and Camino 1.6.1 user, I decided to give Firefox a try again, and got involved with the FF3 betas. For the record, Beta 5 seemed to be the nippiest. Now that the browser is fully released (3.0.1) I am very VERY disappointed in the page load performance. Compared to Camino, my experience is like running knee high in mud with rubber boots on. A lot of energy seems to be being expended, but very little is coming back in return. I know the developers have had to 'kludge' certain aspects of Firefox to 'work' on the Mac OS, but my gawd, this is dismal. I might like to add at this point I only have Flash Block and Ad Block as add-on extensions and I only frequent general news, some forums and information type sites. Once tarted up with GrApple, the browser does look very nice indeed, but its performance is going to make me seriously reconsider the Camino world again. If I could rate this out of 5, I'd probably give it a 2. The long awaited BIG release to 3.x really sucks bolts as far as I am concerned. Of course, your mileage may vary. [alert admin]

Camino 1.5.5 (Mac OS X)

What's in this update . . . jet fuel??

Having used Camino for some time now, I have to say this 1.5.5 is the fastest yet! No problems, and still using the same kit as in my other post here. Want this browser to look like Safari 3? Use Leopard v1.5 buttons from 'Pimp My Camino'. It NOW also LOOKS great! Highly recommended. No probs, no crashes, no freezes, no 'Our site doesn't support Safari' notices. Sweet! [alert admin]

Camino 1.5.4 (Mac OS X)

First-Rate

I was a Safari 2.0 user for quite some time, but because I didn't like the idea of Safari being so tied into the OS for simple things like updates, I started looking elsewhere. After trying the rest, I have happily settled on Camino. I don't necessarily have to update my WHOLE OS just for a small browser update, plus Camino seems to be very snappy, customizable (cosmetically), and just overall unobtrusive. And because it can go just about anywhere Firefox goes, I really like the sense of freedom that many others enjoy. PLUS solid ad and Flash blocking is built in. If you don't like the way Apple is 'pushing you forward' to fit their agenda, consider Camino and take back control of your advancement! For the record, I am using this on a PowerBook G4 (1.5ghz), OS 10.4.9. Flawless performance since Camino 1.5.0. Highly recommended! [alert admin]

BurnX Free 1.5 (Mac OS X)

RE: Every disc gets the name "My Disc"

I too get the same thing and it happens all the time. The question is: Anyone know of a workaround? Maybe the developer could weigh-in here? [alert admin]

iMailist 2.0.8 (Mac OS X)

So close, yet so far . . . .

I have to agree with the 'jamesedwelland' and 'jasonhelman26' that this program is near useless without any form of instructions. As someone who has ben professionally involved with software since 92+, I have to say even this has got me scratching my head. 'Did the message go, or didn't it?' Geez, a progress bar (or something) and a confirmation message would help. Simple set up instructions would also be a blessing. What happened to a 'Bcc' field? How about some drag'n'drop capability to fill the addressing fields. Nice concept, (I really like it alot!) but there still is too many rough edges even for an experienced user. As much as I WANT this to work, I have to say: "Not ready for prime time yet." (I will continue to fiddle with it, as time goes by.) Maybe the developer can give us some insight here?? [alert admin]

SafariPlus 1.5 (Mac OS X)

Lightening fast support for 10.4.10!!!

I can't believe how fast a fix for 10.4.10 has been posted (see one of he 4 replies for link to 1.5.1). Super response time from a developer with a super piece of software! Thanx a million, John! [alert admin]

SafariPlus 1.5 (Mac OS X)

Absolutely fabulous!!!!

This add-on is the single most reason why I continue to use Safari as opposed to other Mac browsers such as Firefox, Camino, Shiira, etc. Not only is the cookie function superb, but the ability to block (yet access) flash in sites is the best solution yet. Totally stable on my current setup (10.4.7) on both my G4 PowerBook and G4 iBook. Thanx!!! [alert admin]

WebGrabber 0.7 (Mac OS X)

Super for legit uses too(!)

I was looking for something like this, as I had to review two of my clients sites and I needed them to be offline. BINGO! Better price than WebWhacker and works extremely well. Both of my client's commercial sites were downloaded intact in no time (and that was on 56k dialup!). As noted by others here, there is hardly any documentation included on how to do this, but I was able to figure it out after a couple of false starts. The author also has a link on his site where one may get further indepth info, as this is a 'Mac' port (of sorts) with roots in the Linux/Unix world(?). Guys like this should be Sainted for the wonderful contribution they make to the Mac community. The other guys who come immediately to mind are the fellows who created OnyX and QuickCalendar. Thanks a lot guys, we really appreciate your efforts! (BTW-They all accept donations) Highly recommended! [alert admin]

OnyX 1.6.9 (Mac OS X)

Solid & Reliable

I've been using OnyX for some time, each time updating it to roughly match my OS. I started at 10.4 and am now up to 10.4.6. Never a problem, always reliable. I'm now runnig OnyX 1.6.9 on my G4 PowerBook and iBook about once or twice a week. There seems to posts below of some with issues. Perhaps running Disk Utility to fix permissions might be a good idea before first use with OnyX, and if you suspect you may hose your hard drive, back the who thing up first to a Firewire drive to be safe. (A bootable external partition for recovery is not a bad thing to do anyhow) Regardless, I highly recommend this utility and would be lost without it! [alert admin]
