Eudora 8.0.0b3 (Mac OS X)
As a long-time Eudora user who has run a mailing list with Eudora for over ten years, I was encouraged a number of months ago to discover that Eudora was back under serious development. By that time, it had become evident to many of us that Qualcomm had apparently lost interest in one of its star products for the Macintosh platform. Like many other Mac Eudora users, I erroneously assumed that with a version number of 8.0, the first beta release of the new Eudora would be familiar ground, and would boast of all of the many features that we Eudora 6.2.4 users have come to enjoy and appreciate. I was not prepared for the disaster that was Eudora 8.0.0b1. This new application, which the developers have the audacity to call Eudora, is a far cry from the product which was first delivered to us by Qualcomm so many years ago. I won't go into all of the details regarding why I feel this way, as this issue has already been discussed at length in other forums across the Internet. Suffice it to say that as of beta 3, this new program does not even come close to living up to the Eudora product name. By this time, one would expect that it could properly import all of the data from the original Eudora. Not so. It imported none of the dozens of folders found in my "Mail" folder. At most, it imported perhaps three dozen of the many dozens of filters that I have setup in the original Eudora. About the only thing that it does seem to have imported, is the data found in my address book, and I am not even sure yet if that is complete. I honestly don't know why the developers chose to give this a version number of 8.0 when it doesn't even possess all of the features of the original Eudora, much less anything new or improved. In fact, I am given the impression that all they are trying to do is cash in on Eudora's good name. In my case, sorry, but that won't do it for me. I don't need a Thunderbird which tries to mimic Eudora. Quite frankly, I think the developers should remove the Eudora name from their product, because this certainly isn't Eudora. It is an impostor trying to win over the Eudora user base, and doing a very poor job at it, at that. I'll be sticking with Eudora 6.2.4 for a long time to come it seems...and I am still quite happy with it. This program may be okay for brand new Eudora users, but for those of you who are long-time users of the original Eudora, at its current development stage, I cannot possibly recommend this product. Skewed Lines Saver 1.0 (Mac OS X)
After reading the previous person's comments, I was naturally curious regarding this developer's home page URL. It does in fact cause one to pause. However, after visiting his site, looking over what he has to say in English in his software section, (he is German), I was left with the impression that he is not a malicious hacker looking for a back door into your system. In its original meaning, a hacker was simply a person involved with coding software, and did not have a negative connotation, as it does now. I did download and install this screensaver, but it would not work on my G4 500 Mhz DP running Tiger 10.4.11. Double-clicking the saver did NOT install it in my screensavers folder, so I had to manually install it myself. However, even then, after selecting it in the screensaver pane in System Preferences, I received the error "CouldNotLoad_ArchMisMatch". I have no idea what that means. Perhaps the developer will figure it out. [alert admin]

Internet Cleanup 5.0 (Mac OS X)
If there is one thing that really annoys me, it is haughty software companies who think their software is so great, that they expect end users to blindly purchase their software, without having tested it out first. Sorry, but I am no such person. I won't take any company's word for it, because all they care about is making money. I want to try before I buy in order to make sure that the software does exactly what the company claims, that it really meets my needs, and that it isn't buggy. Smith Micro, I am another potential customer who will simply pass on by your product. I went to your website, hoping to find a downloadable demo. It was nowhere to be found. It's your loss. ClamXav 1.1.0 (Mac OS X)
To those of you who are having a problem downloading the new version of ClamXav, I just downloaded both versions successfully directly from Mark's site. I too was getting the 403 permissions error, but kept on trying, and eventually, I guess my http request got through. I think that Mark's server is just getting hit with a lot of requests, so it automatically sends out the 403 whenever there is no more bandwidth left. Great software and frontend! [alert admin]

iPartition 3.0.1 (Mac OS X)
I tried out this product some time ago, in 2007, I cannot possibly recommend it for any sane person; and I will tell you why. Accepting the developer's word that this program could be used to partition, or repartition a hard drive, without having to reinitialize the disk, and without losing any of the current data on the disk, I took the plunge and attempted to do some work on a 120 GB disk which was loaded with data. I am not stupid. I have been a Mac user since 1990, so while I may not be very Unix savvy, I do consider myself experienced in normal everyday Mac OSX operations. I carefully followed directions. Imagine, to my shock and horror, when I discovered after the program had completed its tasks, that ALL of my data on the disk, every single darn byte, was lost, including the startup system. I had to do a total reinstall of everything. Thankfully, I had a lot of my personal programs and files backed up, but not all of it, so I did lose some important things. Well, I am sure you know where this program immediately went. Thanks, but no thanks. This is a dangerous and unreliable program, regardless of the developer's claims to the contrary. [alert admin]

KVideoPod 3.0 (Mac OS X)
The captcha security hoops that this developer forces you to go through on their site just to download a demo of their software is ridiculous. I tried three times to download the demo, and each time, I was thrown back to the original download page. So, I thought, "Okay, I'll try downloading the pro version instead". This time I was confronted with having to sign up for some Trial Pay crap, which I obviously declined to do. From the looks of it, it appears that if you purchase something from Trial Pay, they will give you a "Free" copy of iRemember Pro. How is it free if you have to purchase something, plus give away your email address, which will undoubtedly send piles of new spam your way? Developer, if you are serious about wanting people to try out your software, you need to make it a lot easier than this. I for one, pass. [alert admin]

CamMail 1.1 (Mac OS X)
While the developer is off to a good start, I was disappointed to discover the following in the demo of his program: 1. Unless you use Apple Mail, (which I don't, preferring instead to use good ole reliable and feature-rich Eudora), this app is useless. It should be stated under system requirements on the VT page that Apple Mail is required. The author does state this on his web page, however, but not everyone will take the time to visit the web page. They will download the app from VT, as I did, with the expectation that it may work with any email client. 2. I could find no way to save an audio or video message in the app, in case I wanted to send it later. The only option seemed to be to either send the message immediately, or else quit the program and lose the recorded message upon closing. 3. The pink GUI is really an eye sore, and is totally out of place with the much more conservative Apple GUI. At the very least, make the app skinable, so the user can choose from a list of skins which might be more pleasing to his/her taste. 4. Upon launching the app, you are reminded to register. Upon hitting the record button, you are again reminded to register. If you click on the Help menu option, you are taken to a web page where you are again reminded to register, before seeing the short FAQ lower on the page. This is really overkill, and an annoyance. Most Mac computer users are smart enough to get the message with the first registration reminder when the program is first launched. 5. A 15 second demo audio or video message is way too short, and does not allow the potential buyer to really test the app to its full potential. Other than the author's word, we have no way to prove that the app can handle larger/longer recordings without encountering problems. Due to the above points, I found no motivation to purchase this product. [alert admin]

Mac-Friendly Pkg Installer Please
I agree with the other comments here. This developer would have a lot more success with distributing his program amongst typical Mac users if he/they took the time to compile the program first. Many inexperienced Mac users don't have a clue regarding what the XCode Developer tools are, are still afraid of the Terminal, and wouldn't know how to begin to compile a program from source. Macs are all about being user-friendly; remember? :) [alert admin]

G-Force 3.7.5 (Mac OS X)
I've been comparing the visualizer that is built into iTunes 7.5 with the G-Force plug-in, and thus far, I haven't been convinced that G-Force is worth the $20.00+ (depending on what version you purchase) investment. Maybe G-Force is better, and I just haven't let it run long enough to see it outshine the iTunes visualizer. Does anyone else care to offer their view on this? Do you find G-Force substantially better than the built-in visualizer? Just curious. Thanks! [alert admin]

OSS 3D 2.3b7 (Mac OS X)
Similar to "psr", I experienced some problems after installing 2.3b7. Although the program didn't crash, by default, it was set to "manual", and all of the settings on the various tabs were set to the far left without exception. In other words, all of the presets in the pull-down menu were useless, because their settings on the tabs were set to the far left...every single one of them. I am likewise going back to 2.3b6 until this issue is fixed. [alert admin]

No doubt it is? That isn't a very convincing answer. I was actually hoping for more substantial answers. Exactly WHY do you think G-Force is better than the iTunes built-in visualizer? Thanks for responding!

I agree with the other posters here. This piece of software is clearly mislabeled. It does NOT fall within the meaning of donationware, as generally accepted by most software users. Despite the developer's claims and justifications, it is a restricted piece of shareware, and nothing less. I have taken up this very same issue with a few other developers on the VersionTracker website as well. We, the end users, are not stupid. We know when…

I just found my old presets. If you go into your main library, to the Preferences folder, you will find two folders. One is called "OSS 3D Settings", while the other is called "OSS 3D Settings.OLD". I dragged copies of all of my presets into the new OSS 3D folder, and they are now appearing again in OSS 3D's drop-down menu. Please note that the old settings folder contains some files which are created in…

Many many thnx for this working Intel version
Actually, I seriously doubt that that person posted their commentary five times. Sometimes, either VT's script goes buggy, causing a post to be repeated like this, or else maybe the load on their server is too much, and it causes freaky things to happen. This happens quite often. There is a lot of feedback scattered throughout the VT forums which is repeated just like this . . . but then, maybe you already knew that.…

I've had the same experience as "Absinthe". I get the same error in Safari, whether I try to download the 10.3.9 client and server updates from the VersionTracker provided link, or whether I go directly to the Apple website download page. However, as Don noted, the 10.3.9 updates are properly downloaded and installed if I use Software Update. On the other, the 10.4.3 updates, (client and server), downloaded without a problem when I went directly to…

Ladislao you are most definitely incorrect about this, and DennyPackard is absolutely right. FYI, Ladislao, we purchased the Pro version of LimeWire some time ago. At the time of purchase, you are in fact told that your subscription license is only good for six months. In other words, you can continue to download upgrades for six months, from the time that you make your original purchase. Yes, you do have to bookmark the download…
