OmniGraffle Pro 5.0.1 beta 1 (Mac OS X)
Hopefully one of these beta versions will fix the price bug. I find it hard to believe that OMNI charged so much not only for this upgrade, but also for programs such as Omni Plan and Omni Focus. I own both of these as well, and prefer Merlin 2 and Thinking Rock 2. I bought these Omni programs in part to show my support for the company, and this was prior to the Omni Graffle pricing fiasco. To me these Omni programs are not a good value given their prices and features, and competing products have been a better choice for me. I seldom use OmniWeb, which I think was the first Omni product I purchased many years ago, and use FireFox or Safari these days. But at one point OmniWeb was my favorite browser. And I didn't mind paying for it. It was worth it. I used to love Omni as a company, and the support ninjas are amazing 99.9% of the time. But I'll keep on using OmniGraffle 4 until it no longer works for my needs and/or I find a replacement. I'm certainly not upgrading my Omni software if things continue this way. Just my feedback. Microsoft Office 2008 12.0.1 (Mac OS X)
Lack of VBA support was announced in August of 2006 ![]()

Here's a thorough explanation, as well as a request for feedback: http://www.schwieb.com/blog/2006/08/08/saying-goodbye-to-visual-basic/ While I don't like that VBA was taken out, it was announced well in advance. http://www.macworld.com/article/54320/2006/12/microsoft.html http://www.macwindows.com/office2008.html I do wish that launching the applications was faster. Other than that, it has behaved pretty much as expected. [alert admin]

Disco 1.0.3 (Mac OS X)
Why shouldn't I listen to tcloer?
With all due respect NeoX, tcloer makes some very good points, for example regarding Disco's hype, having Toast for breakfast, and being an alternative to Toast. I don't care that much if Disco uses X or Y technology. I do care if the software lives up to its promise. Disco certainly has failed me. I've used it since the first beta versions became available and Disco was much cheaper. I always went back to Toast. Finally, after almost 1 year, some of the old bugs have been addressed. I'm sure that many people will enjoy Disco. Many will find the $29 price fair. But others are certainly entitled to post their opinions. jreffner, if you wanted something cheaper than Toast, Burn is actually free. Also, Toast can be found relatively cheap since from time to time there are frequently offers and rebates available. [alert admin]

TinkerTool System 1.8 (Mac OS X)
I’ve used TTS for a few years and consider it an essential part of my Mac. While some of its functionality is available in other programs for free, TTS integrates a lot of features in a well designed package and the price is fairly cheap. I don’t recall ever having a problem due to using TTS. I did contact the author once with a question and he provided a quick response. Overall I’m very happy with TTS. [alert admin]

Apple Mac OS X 10.5 (Mac OS X)
Reminds me of how bad the first OS X beta was ![]()

After using the first OS X beta years ago, and being impressed with Tiger (finally), Apple now delivers one of the worst "upgrades" I've seen in recent years. Installation problems, functionality issues, strange behavior, etc. One extra star since I did not get the Blues Screen Of Death. For those who haven't "upgraded" better wait for 10.5.1. This one is a PITA. [alert admin]

iClip 4 (Mac OS X)
Version 3 deserves 4 or 5 stars, but not version 4 ![]()

I’m sure many will rate this review as “Not Useful” but I will provide the reasons behind my rating. 1. The price is more expensive than alternative applications. Even some free applications are arguably better than iClip 4. 2. As mentioned by many others here, at MacUpdate, and at different forums, the new interface is a PITA. I tried and tried, but reading my clippings was difficult due to the new color and backgrounds. 3. Customer support seems to be non-existant. Support used to be great in the past, but so far I have not received a response to an email I sent them almost 3 weeks ago. In summary, iClip 4 has a questionable interface, is expensive, and has poor support. Perhaps a future release will redeem iClip, but as it is right now, version 4 does not even deserve the same name as version 3. Hopefully we won’t have to wait over a year for the next great release. This could really be a great application, worthy of 5 stars. [alert admin]

You Control 1.4.1 b1 (Mac OS X)
The last few releases, which were long overdue, fixed many bugs. Look at their forums, the reviews at VersionTracker, and the reviews at other sites, and it should be evident that the program has not performed well in the past. Maybe you did not have any problems with the software. Maybe it's just a coincidence that people praising You Control have no previous reviews here at VT. But the fact remains that this software was buggy and overpriced for a very long time. Perhaps the new beta works, but I have moved on. Still it's good to see that finally someone has taken the time to correct the problems with the software. [alert admin]

Toast Titanium 7.0.2 (Mac OS X)
Given the frequent crashes I've had with 7.0.1 I was glad to see a new version. Unfortunately, I can't download the software even though I am a registered user. Their web support is laughable, but not funny anymore. [alert admin]

DragThing 5.6 (Mac OS X)
I ran into a slight problem last night and I thought it was a 5.6 bug. I emailed James, got a prompt reply, and it turned out the problem was due to another application. I've used DragThing for years, before OS X and obviously after. It clearly has a place in my computer. [alert admin]

Apple Pages 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)
I had not used it since first trying version 1 and being disappointed. I wrote a brief 2-page document with Pages, and pasted some text from different web sources to use as quotes. The pasted text kept its own formatting, which may not be that bad in itself but an option to paste unformatted text would be superior. My main complaint in this situation is that the option to Copy Character Style under the format menu was unavailable. It seems to work with some text, but was unavailable for most of my document. Copying and then pasting a style would have been a quick solution. Also, changing the style of the final lines of a paragraph actually changed the whole paragraph. As a word processor I still find Pages to be somewhat annoying even when doing very basic things, such as simple formatting. Perhaps by version 1.5 or 2 it will be OK. It is very easy to use, and for many, Pages will satisfy their needs. I expected a better program. [alert admin]

As much as I like you and the Omni Group, this upgrade fee is excessive. I don't recall people complaining about an Omni upgrade prior to this one. Perhaps the exception has been OMNIWeb, since most browsers are free, but other than that I think that your customers have accepted previous upgrades fees which have been reasonable. This one actually makes me question whether or not to upgrade any of my other 5 or 6 Omni apps…

Thanks for the response Valorie. I don’t have a number for the Data Backup issue. The number I found for my Drive Genius question is 07-55546, but there’s no need to answer now. I needed help 3 months ago, and now it’s irrelevant (as you will see from my request). By the way, Prosoft did have the information I was requesting. Hopefully the number can still be of use to you, and you may find where…

I would like to know too :) On OS 9 I could have probably figured out what was going on and maybe solve it if it was a problem with an extension or another program for example. On OS X I can't do that. My knowledge when it comes to OS X and its inner workings is more limited. Regarding the "bug report" I guess that if I send them an email asking for help because…

Still, most software developers will offer free upgrades if the software purchase was fairly recent. While my purchase was made about 6 months ago, for many months I was pretty much unable to use the software. Also, the other software I purchased from Intego at the same time is "supposed" to include free updates for a year. Of course, they may call them "upgrades" now and start charging money for them. A lot of the software…

Thanks. I thought that the timer was selected since it had a light blue background, but I now realize that it was not selected automatically, and I had to click on it once to select it (and the blue background got darker). I love the interface, and will give it another try. Still, I much prefer the timer in A & E Tracker Plus, but this interface is nicer :)

Congratulations :) I wonder why they sent me an email saying that it will be $20 and did not offer any new serial number or upgrade pricing. Did you purchase the software recently? I got mine ever since it first came out, so maybe they're giving the free upgrade to more recent purchases. This is getting a bit confusing... Still, congratulations again!

I thought you meant it as a general change of heart by YazSoft towards all previously registered users. Since I received an email from them a few hours ago stating that there's no upgrade fee for their software, and that it will indeed cost $20 for those who want to "update" their versions, I posted my impressions saying that they did not have a change of heart. I'm glad they did send you a new…
