Dejumble 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)
Convenient and easy, simple task manager ![]()

I'm always interested in an app that claims to help me organize my "things to do." So I took a look at this one and found it to be well done and actually easy to use. "Easy to use" is important because many times I wind up not putting down somewhere something I think of that I need to do later... This app sits in the menu bar always available. It's there no matter what "spaces" screen I'm on. It has a very "polished" look despite being at v1.0.2. And it looks nice :) It's doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, but it does include the basics. You can add tags to a task, assign tasks to groups, set a due date and time, assign a priority (1, 2, or 3 stars), only show tasks in a certain group, easily search for tasks by title or tag, etc. And it's pretty easy to use and looks nice! AND, it's on sale right now! The web site says it's one day only - $10. But they also say the price will be going up to $19 (as of 12:01 am April 24, 08). So at $10 and as good as it is right now (and the potential that it will get even better), it was literally a "no brainer" for me (which is a good thing since my brain has been gone for awhile now ;-) Two caveats: One, it's Leopard-only. Since Leopard adds a lot of nice features for developers, that might be a good thing. Two, I've only used it for an hour so I'm no expert. There might be bugs I just haven't stumbled over yet... You Control: Desktops 1.3 b2 (Mac OS X)
Indispensable software - nice update! ![]()

I've used You Control: Desktops since I finally gave up on Codetek's VirtualDesktop. Having something that provides multiple desktops has become a necessity for me. My way of working on the computer has changed dramatically (for the better) with this software, kind of like how TiVo has changed the way I view TV. I just installed the new beta and I'm very happy with the improvements the developers have made. Two changes in particular have me smiling! Change number one is the positioning of the cursor after a desktop transition. I now have the option of selecting where the cursor goes after the transition. I like "Same Location", although I'm sure others would disagree. Now I can "have it my way" :) Change number two is the selectable delay for the "Mouse to Edge Switches Desktops" transition. I'd turned that off earlier because I kept inadvertently switching desktops when I didn't mean to... Now I can actually use the mouse to switch desktops without fear :) Excellent! I must say I've never had a real problem running "Desktops". YMMV but I've used this software on both a G5 PowerMac and my current Mac Pro (and on a MacBook for a short while). It's worked great on all. Highly recommended for those whose desktops tend to get "busy" ;-) [alert admin]

VueScan 8.3.31 (Mac OS X)
I've used this program for well over a year with never a problem. The developer keeps adding features and scanners to its repertoire. It's much easier to use now than some of the earlier versions. My wife uses it all the time and I guarantee that she's not computer savvy ;-) With over 1 million downloads from this site, I think it's safe to say I'm not the only one who finds this program very useful! SonicMood 1.0.6 (Mac OS X)
Your comments constitute the best therapy I've had in years (and goodness knows I've needed some ;-) ! I'm glad SonicMood works for you. I developed it to help me relax and concentrate while working on other things. I intended it to be somewhat like a software version of those CDs (like Nature Quest) that provide a peaceful sonic background to fall asleep to, for example. Seems to work - I keep falling asleep at the keyboard :) John. [alert admin]

SonicMood 1.0.4 (Mac OS X)
Thank you for your kind comments regarding the sounds SonicMood makes. As far as the interface goes, I wanted something which looked slightly offbeat - to match the offbeat nature of the app. I do get your point, however, and I confess I haven't been faithful to Apple's HIG. In response to your comment I am reviewing the guidelines and will make some changes to bring SonicMood more in line with them. Probably starting with the font ;-) Thanks for the feedback! John. SonicMood 1.0.4 (Mac OS X)
Thanks, cocoaNut, for the suggestion. I will look into adding MP3 recording capability. It's funny, I started working on SonicMood to relax me while I worked on code ;-) I've tried to make it something I really like - hope it's good for you, too! John. [alert admin]

SonicMood 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)
While SonicMood's sounds may not be for everybody, it does use the Quicktime sampled sounds licensed from Roland. The instrument sampling is high quality, and not computer-synthesized. [alert admin]

I tried googling "error-199" and only came up with the possibility that the diskimage (.dmg) file is corrupt. It has something to do with the diskimage's internal map not agreeing with what's actually in the diskimage. I just tried downloading from our web site (the .dmg, not the .dmg.zip) and the diskimage opened w/o problem. Then I tried downloading from the VersionTracker site and that also worked. The best I can suggest is that you try re-downloading…

Thanks for the info, pendragon, and the coupon code, too! :) I followed your advice and bought the upgrade for $50.99. Like others, I've never had a bad burn with Toast (I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere ;-) Thanks again, John

I should have said v1.0.2 ;-) The developer is really working hard on this, too. It's 12/18/07 and we're up to version 1.1.1. I use Pixelmator a lot and have given Photoshop Elements v4 the boot!

re your item #6 (swap fore & background colors): if you right/control-click on the two colors in the tools palette you'll get a contextual menu where you can select "swap colors". I agree that Pixelmator is quite good - I suspect v1.2 (just released) will improve things somewhat. But it does have a few rough edges still...

I really appreciate your kind words :) SonicMood is a program I originally did for myself - I wanted some pleasant but not distracting sounds while I used the computer. I was outside one day and realized the wind chimes were helping me relax even tho I hadn't been "listening" to them. They were just there, in the background, making soothing sounds. I thought I could do something like that with a program and…

Thank you for your feedback. I am fascinated by ambiant music. I went to the mountainradio website - it is truly inspiring! From the "Ambience" link (via wikipedia) I found the Seelewaschen website and downloaded their free program. It's really wonderful. I wrote SonicMood to be a form of background ambiance - like wind chimes but with more versatility. I think the customization features are what make it stand out a bit compared with some others.…

Are you sure your main volume control isn't muted? I have SoundSticks and it works fine with them.
