GCam 1.2 (Mac OS X)

All links are dead, sadly.

DVForge, which redirects to MacMice, seem to have removed all traces of GCam 1.2 from their site. I've sent email to them, and to the program's creator, Ben Bird, but no luck so far. Just FYI; the app distribution and development seem dead, dead, dead. [alert admin]

Bits on Wheels 1.0.6 (Mac OS X)

Previous poster probably had screwed hard disk...

I've been using BoW heavily for a while now, probably a year or so, on at least five PowerBooks (Pismo G32, Ti and Al PowerBooks). Not once have I seen any sort of trouble with my hard drives, and I use both the boot drive and an external drive for downloads. I suspect the previous poster had some undiscovered hard disk troubles (use DiskWarrior) and BoW was just the app that stumbled across the issue.

Now, reviewing BoW: I love it! I've run with - and intermittently return to - the official BT client, Transmission, BoW, and Azureus. Somehow I always return to BoW, mostly for the swarm graphics. (I don't see any major differences between download speed or resource usage.)

While there are several dozen minor user interface issues I'd like to have tweaked, I heartily recommend BoW as the client to use. [alert admin]

GeekTool 2.1 (Mac OS X)

Makes all the difference for me...

I've been looking for this for years, but didn't know it yet. It does exactly as advertised. It'd be perfect except for (1) dodgy documentation, (2) no good description of how the add-on graphing tools (prominently featured on the screenshots) are to be made and deployed, and (3) stability. The release version is build d7, which silently quits (frequently). The author has distributed build f9, which is allegedly more stable but has major UI problems. Stability be fixed, rating becomes *****. Still, this is the best damn tool out there, even if frequent re-enabling is necessary. [alert admin]

When Safari fails try Firefox

When trying to install the latest firmware through the web interface using Safari 2.0.4 I kept getting Upgrade file pattern error. Firefox 2.0.0.3 let me apply the firmware file without a problem.
