MenuMeters 1.3 (Mac OS X)

Best little meters in all of Macdom.

I can't live without these. I've grown so accustomed to them, whatever would I do if I had give them up? Hopefully they'll be with us as long as there are Macs. At a glance I can see how my RAM is doing, my CPU load, whether or not anything is accessing my Mac on the networks, and whether there is any disk activity going on. Further, by clicking on any meter, I get a full report. They are excellent. Use them. [alert admin]

Kaleidostrobe 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Kaleidostrobe--excellent iTunes plugin

This is a great plugin. I've used it since it came out. I'm a little taken aback that someone would give it a low rating. There are lots of visuals for iTunes, and this one does as advertised. It does it beautifully, incredibly for that matter. I find it excellent. Apparently most people do. Shooshie [alert admin]

Solar System Sim 2.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Solar System Sim; Very educational!

This reminds me of a pre-PPC app for Mac I used to LOVE. It was simpler and (if I remember correctly) had a friendlier GUI, but the current Solar System Sim by Dean Dauger is amazing for its completeness. It even has 3-D views, like another Dauger app, Atom in a Box! I found it entertaining and educational. I think Dean could improve the interface a little, by providing us with some onscreen control panels with buttons and sliders with interesting defaults. Nevertheless, if you put even a little time into this, you'll be rewarded with a greater appreciation for the universe we live in and the physics that runs it. The example universes are great. A rich little app... Encourage the author to make it more usable by high-school age kids. (Paying the shareware fee might help!) Dean, if you're reading, get PayPal! It's so much easier than sending you a check! And keep writing great stuff for the Mac. I really appreciate it! ---Shooshie [alert admin]

Enigmo 1.3 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Spyware, Shmyware! Great Game

The complaints about "phoning home" are unwarranted. Perhaps Pangea could mitigate such complaints merely by telling us that it does so, and why. But I think it's of little consequence to anyone who has paid for the full version, unless it's transmitting more than game registration info. There is an overlap between privacy and piracy, and we're going to have to get used to companies tracking piracy, providing they do not compromise privacy while doing so. I don't see any indication that Pangea is compromising our privacy. So, Pangea, why not tell us what you're doing and stop the concern? The game is absolutely ingenious and fun. The game editor is great, too, and constructing a game is painless. Very well thought-out. Crisp, smooth graphics and seemingly "real" action. I imagine nearly everyone will be thrilled by Enigmo. And who cares if Pangea checks tracks registration? Pay your $19 and quitcha bit-chen. Shooshie [alert admin]

Enigmo 1.0.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

This is a…

beautiful game. It's visually engaging, mentally stimulating, musically interesting, and just downright ingenious. I bought a serial number the moment I reached the end of the demo. Great work, Pangea! [alert admin]

Fracture 1.1.1 (Mac OS X)

Best Fractal generator…

I've ever used on a Mac. Fast, wonderful, and very configurable. I recommend going to see Ben's website; he's got some great screenshots in the gallery. By the way, USE the CONTROLS. That's how you get great results. Change colors often to see the range you can get, and use the caps lock to hold a finished fractal in place till you're ready for it to refresh and zoom in. The drivers are…

not as functional as those in OS9, but Epson is doing a good job. The negative comments seem unwarranted. This stuff works fine. The drivers for OS9 were stellar. That's a lot to ask from Epson for their early attempts at OS X. I think they are on track. This driver works great for me, though I could use more features. I trust they will continue to develop their drivers. [alert admin]

Weatherling 0.5 (Mac OS X)

Great! I'd give…

it 5 stars, but I've been waiting on it to be "finished" for a year and a half. Simplicity: always there, one click, always up-to-date. More features aren't needed; I can always go to a website for a full weather report. I just want to know what it's doing in about 20 places... right now! [alert admin]

Myst III: Exile 1.22 (Mac OS 9)

Jeez, what's everyone…

griping about? It works, and it works perfectly. There is nothing to it. Myst III Exile is one of the greatest games I've ever played. Sure, it has to cater to a popular market, but it introduces so many subtleties, nuances, and esoteric influences that it simply triumphs on the level of great art and literature. The acting has not approached that of the greatest movies, but it's well done. The actor has his moments, though. He's a fearsome foe at the end. The patch works fine. Get the game. Install it in OS9, then add the OSX patch. You simply copy the files into the Myst III folder, and read the few lines of documentation that are provided. This patch elevated Myst from a 4-star to a 5-star game for me. [alert admin]

SimCity 3000 1.0.5a57 (Mac OS 9)

One of the…

most incredible games of all time, for any platform. I like the improvements of Sim City 3K. It simply rocks. Larger land area, more variety, animations, views, farms (if you know the secret), and endless hours turned into educational and fun experience. (Educational... yeah... that's what to tell everyone... ;^) Great Game! With lots of memory you won't have any problems with it. Shooshie [alert admin]
