Cocoa NewsPost 1.6.5 (Mac OS X)

Rough edges

I purchased Cocoa NewsPost after having difficulties with the available AppleScript based applications that I am aware of, Hermes, Osiris and Ibis. I have used Osiris sucessfully in the past, but recently it has been posting a random number of posts before stopping and complaining that I did not love it. Cocoa NewsPost will post your binary files to usenet, but the quality leaves much to be desired. For example, it will download a list of usenet groups so you can select the groups to post to, but doesn't sort them. All 6500 or so groups are displayed in random order. If you drag folder of files into the posting list it fails. If you drag a selection of files into the posting list it posts them in random order. There is no option to display file size in the subject line, which is common in usenet posts. Compared to what is available on Windows, this is an embarassment for Macintosh users. I believe I paid $25 for Thoth, an amazing piece of software. I paid $20 for Cocoa NewsPost. If you need it buy it, but don't expect to be impressed. [alert admin]

Osiris 2.7 (Mac OS X)

Osiris - What, you don't love me?

I have used Osiris for some time and very much appreciate the author's freeware contribution. When it works, it works extremely well. However it often pops up a message that says: "Osiris is sad to say... What, you don't love me?" and stops posting. If I am attempting to post 200 files, for example, it may stop after 50, or 100, or 150, requiring me to restart the entire post. This is even if the "Credit Osiris" checkbox checked, so it is unclear why it is unhappy. I don't at all mind giving credit to Osiris, but the seemingly random behavior is exceedingly frustrating. A fix for this odd behavior would give this a 5 star rating. [alert admin]

Rough edges

Thanks, I very much appreciate the fixes. I realize the finder passes an unsorted file list to the application, having run into the same issue myself. However, that is a programming issue and not an excuse for presenting unordered list boxes to the user. I have never seen randomly ordered files autoposted on usenet. As far as the group listing, of course you can search an unordered list, but why should you have to? I don't…

Sorry, that's "65000 or so". In random order.

Osiris - What, you don't love me?

As an addendum, I just tried 10 times to post 200 files. Each time it has terminated before completion with the "don't you love me?" message.
