IPSecuritas 3.4 (Mac OS X)
IPSecuritas - brilliant software! ![]()

I've been using IPSecuritas to connect to two different Juniper SSG-140 routers/security-devices (Melbourne office and Sydney office). IPSecuritas works beautifully. I was considering Equinux's "VPN Tracker" (expensive) but IPSecuritas does everything I need to do and for free! The setup wizard works well and configures most of the settings required for my Juniper SSG-140 devices. I found the Equinux documentation on configuring the Juniper SSG-140 helpful. The Equinux documentation goes into a bit more detail on setting up Extended Authentication (XAUTH) on the SSG-140. IPSecuritas supports Extended Authentication (XAUTH) nicely. [alert admin]

Password Repository 2.5 (Mac OS X)
Password Repository vs 1Passsword
For many years I used a similar product called Data Guardian. Data Guardian and Password Repository seem very similar. I've since migrated to 1Password to sore password information and web forms. I like 1Password because it also makes the data available via their web repository and they have an iPhone app that also maintains a copy of the database. [alert admin]

Apple Mac OS X PPC 10.4.10 (Mac OS X)
ARD reports 10.4.10 computers as 10.4.9
I've updated a few computers at work to Mac OS 10.4.10. I have a small problem. Apple Remote Desktop identifies them as 10.4.9. The build number (in brackets) however is correct. The problem relates to both PPC and Intel computers. [alert admin]

Apple Safari 3.0b (Mac OS X)
MSN Messenger 6.0.2 and Safari 3.0b conflict?
A friend reported that MSN Messenger 6.0.2 (for Mac) kept crashing with Safari 3.0b installed. I didn't believe him; they are standalone programs/applications. But I'm experiencing the same problem. MSN Messenger 6.0.2 is now crashing a lot with Safari 3.0b installed (especially when trying to access MSN Messenger, Conversation History). I like Safari 3.0b so I think I'll stick with it. Is anyone else experiencing similar problems? Or is my hypothesis wrong? [alert admin]

RealPlayer 10.0b (Mac OS X)
I refuse to pay for RealOne Player. If there isn't a free version I simply wont use it. Insted I'll stick with QuickTime. [alert admin]

Radeon Enabler 1.0 (Mac OS X)
Doen't work with Radeon cards - PC version
I would love to use a Radeon PCI or AGP card for PC in my Mac. PC versions of Radeon cards are much cheaper than equivalent model Mac versions of Radeon cards). RadeonEnabler does not enable this (nor it doesn't claim to do this) - it only works with OEM Radeon cards built for Mac. If you have an OEM Radeon Mac card this RadeonEnabler might be quite useful. SoftRAID 3.0.3 (Mac OS X)
I've been using SoftRAID for about a month and I'm very happy with it. I got a G4 tower, installed Mac OS 10.3 Server (unlimited) and SoftRAID. I installed a SATA PCI card and two SATA 230GB hard drives. The two SATA drives I formatted as a RAID 1 (mirror) using SoftRAID (to provide basic hardware redundancy). Shared directories on this voume serve our company (40 staff - Macs and PCs). I tested SoftRAID by taking one drive offline and then reconnecting it - resyncs just fine. SoftRAID works well, is affordable and is well documented. I don't need to boot from a SoftRAID RAID1 or RAID0 volume (I boot from the Apple formatted internal ATA drive). The setup is cheaper than an XServe/XRaid (although not as big nor is it as fast) but it serves us very well indeed. Sam Venning, Melbourne, Australia. [alert admin]

PasswordWallet is great. I've been using it for a while now. Version 2.x was good and version 3.x is even better. I really like how information is stored in a file I can put anywhere (ie on my external Firewire drive) so that I can carry it around with me (the data it isn't automatically placed in Application Support folder like some other applications of this kind do). Saft 6.0.0 (Mac OS X)
I can't reinstall this with the order ID (I kept a copy of the receipt in HTML). And the developer will not respond to my emails. Frustrating. [alert admin]

EyeTV 1.3.3 (Mac OS X)
The comments here from both end-users and Elgato makes for very interesting reading. I want to read that it works well before making a purchase. So far there simply isn't enough information to make an assessment (neither good nor bad reviews/reports online or in the press). [alert admin]
