Leap 1.0.3 (Mac OS X)
Personally I have always found Spotlight searches to be time-consuming and poor. Leap has literally changed the way I file and find things. Have dumped all my registered note-collecting apps (DevonThink, EagleFiler, Yojimbo, and the list goes on) and am running with Leap + tags + Finder. Absolutely wonderful application, well worth the money. The lads are still polishing off the sharp edges and communicate really well. [alert admin]

OK software - poor website/purchasing experience ![]()

This is the only way to run the great AVision scanners on the Mac. The latest betas work well with 10.5.1. Pretty utilitarian interface but great scanning options. Tried to buy the software on their website today but all the pages dealing with the actual purchase are in German - not much help. If you do battle through it all, the actual order fails - taking you to the German PayPal site without registering your data. Thus impossible to buy. Pity. Guys you need to clean this up a bit. And translate the Store pages into English. [alert admin]

XMIND 2008 2.2 (Mac OS X)
Looks good, but export options pretty useless ![]()

Trialled this for a week or so and actually really like. Great layout of maps, lot of very neat automatic options. A bit Windows-like in many ways but tolerable. What *really* lets it down are the export options. From pdf, to rtf and beyond, all pretty useless and ugly. Once this gets updated, this will really represent a serious alternative to NovaMind and MindManager. [alert admin]

Audio Hijack Pro 2.8d1 (Mac OS X)
Works fine under Leopard here. At least it works - now that Volume Logic has been discontinued. Steve J [alert admin]

Volume Logic 1.3.2 (Mac OS X)
VOLUME LOGIC DISCONTINUED FOR LEOPARD!!
Well, installed Leopard tonight, fired up iTunes and found that Volume Logic was not working. Came to VT and noted that the developer had signed Volume Logic off as 10.5 OK. So reinstalled. Still not luck. Mailed the company and have just been informed (barely one month after having purchased it) that: "Sorry, no. VL has been discontinued." Feel distinctly ripped-off. So, folks, do not buy this. A real pity. Was a wonderful add-on to iTunes. Back to Audio Hijack Pro. Steve J [alert admin]

Parallels Desktop 3.0 build 4560.0 (Mac OS X)
Well, disregarding the negative comments below (and elsewhere) I figured it couldn't be that bad and purchased the overpriced upgrade. Bad move. Nothing but hassles. Would not initially recognise the v2 container. After multiple uninstalls and reinstalls, it was finally recognised. Then initiated the installation of the new version of Tools, only to have the install crash the application. So, tried and tried again with constant crashes. Back to the uninstall/reinstall process. Went through this several times. No luck. The application crashes constantly. Can't get it to stay up for more than 30 seconds. And this using a thoroughly stable version 2 container. Have wasted several hours on this. Ugh! Believe the negative comments. Looks like VMfusion is the way to go. [alert admin]

Yojimbo 1.4.2 (Mac OS X)
Well, just lost my Yojimbo database. Around a thousand tagged documents. Hmmmh! No info at the BareBones site on how to recover it. The app open up but is empty - not a record in sight. Even Entourage doesn't do this any more. Off to EagleFiler I think or maybe just Finder/QuickSiler/tags. Was nice whilst it last though. [alert admin]

iGTD 1.3.3 (Mac OS X)
Well, thought we were on a winner with this one. Spent the past day setting it up (with version 1.3.2) and was really working well. Appeared to have a seamless and faultless interaction with iCal. Installed 1.3.3 today, did a bit more work and came back, a few hours later, to find the syncing with iCal had devoured much of the work in iGTD and iCal, thousands of completed todos had been reset to uncompleted and multiple calendars were no longer grouped. Many items no longer there at all. Yikes! Will hold back for a few months till things are bedded down. [alert admin]

Problem is that E2004 has even more annoying bugs than Daylite. Simply infuriating that, after 3 years and undoubtedly countless notifications, the MacBU has not fixed them nor really improved the user experience. Daylite, despite its numerous shortcomings is still pretty damn neat. Have used them both extensively over the past few years as they are the only 2 real options on the Mac for decent PIM. Can toleratate E2004 for…

Well, I've had the opposite experience. Had to uninstall QS after endless crashes and finally a spinning ball which consumed CPU and went on endlessly. I cannot remember LB crash - ever. This on multiple machines over many years.

Took Marketcircle under an hour to get back to me and sort out what was happening. Great service. Sill conflicting with other OSX bits but should be sorted. Steve J

DayLite has a similar problem with the Treo 650. Check out www.marketcircle.com under support. They have a segment on the subject. Seems to be problematic with more than 3000 Contacts. SJ
