iPartition 1.5.7 (Mac OS X)

WARNING!

Like their "iDefrag" I previously commented on which f'ed up my entire computer, this "iPartition" thingy forced me to re-install my entire System from ZERO. I have a 250Gig HD which had (!!!) a working 40 Gig MacOSX Partition, that contained my entire data. I tried iPartition to make one 250Gigs partition out of the 40Gigs MacOSX one and the 210 Gigs of empty space. This code re-wrote the Partition Table and deleted the entire contents of the 40Gigs partition I was using. Ah, also tried their so called CD-Maker: none of the few Disks it wrote ever worked, not on Intel, not on G5, not while rebooting, not by choosing the allegedly existent OS from the Startvolume control panel - it wont show anything there... Have time to waste? Downlod their soft from your favourite P2P network, play with it, but do make backups of your data before you start!!! In the unlikely case this thingy does anything useful for you, feel free to make a donation to your local animal-shleter! :(( [alert admin]

iDefrag 1.5.7 (Mac OS X)

WARNING!

My PowerBook G4 15'' became slow after about 6 Month of usage. I went for iDefrag. No manual, no handbook, but WTF-RTFM?! :D Result: My Mac is SLOWER then before! It takes about a minute to start up (took 20 sec. before using iDefrag) and does not shut down properly anymore: I get that grey error-message box, need to press & hold the powerbutton and get a message upon restart. Exactly acc. to Apple that existing defragmentation tools may actually slow your machine down by moving files into or out of the “Hot Band”, defeating Panther’s Adaptive Hot File Clustering code. iDefrag prides itself to be the first defragmentation tool for the Mac that fully supports the Hot Zone, guaranteeing that this is not a problem; thank you but what worth is your "guarantee" if reality shows the opposite = Apple is right!?! :(( Read this before you TRY to use it or even consider BUYING it: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25668 I am glad I did not pay for this piece of crap-code that f'ed up my Mac, else I would be even more upset. Will have to reformatmy HDD and use a backup to get back to normal operations :(( Thank you Coriolis NOT! :(( [alert admin]

Tenon iTools 8.2.2 (Mac OS X)

WARNING!

Incredible. Also my Mac got f'ed up, even though all I did was install the Trial, and after 5 mins, right after realizing how unnecessairy and useless this product is, uninstall using their uninstaller. webmin at http://www.webmin.com does much more, wont f your machine and - guess, what: it is for free! iTools is a malicious rip off. Dont use it, dont try it, never buy it, dont even use it in case you get if for free! I use the Macintosh since 20 years, but such a thing never occured to me. [alert admin]

MegaCellX 2.6.1 (Mac OS X)

Still does not do it... :(

>January 16, 2006 - MegaCellX 2.6.1 update > >[Fix] the filter of the preferred numbers for the calls now works correctly > >[Fix] fixed a bug on some Motorola phones of reading of incoming SMS > >[Fix] minor bug fix > Well, nice of you Vincenzo to take care of minor bugs, but how about the MAJOR ones? It still does not import more then the 1st entry of each item. This is quite annoying and renders the software useless. Pitty. I'd really love to spend the 20 bux, if it did all the 5 details, each item has or can have. ...or did I just oversee something? Please post a reply, Mr. Azzone & "mille grazie!" :) [alert admin]

MegaCellX 2.6.0 (Mac OS X)

Does not communicate all entries

As everybody knows, NOKIA Phones since some generations have several (up to 5 in this case) sub-entries of different categories (Home, Work, Cell, Fax, Email, etc.) for each phone-book entry. Unfortunately this soft only transfers the first entry, ignores the other ones and does not assign the category. After you read your data from your phone you need to explecitly export them or they are lost (a so called back-up does not contain any data!). The other features are nice, may come handy for ppl. who like to send paid for SMS from the PC (even though there are plenty of free SMS Services online). Conclusion: Make the soft transfer ALL entreis from the phone and also make it use the given categories. Cheers, S. [alert admin]

OOSearch 0.2.1 (Mac OS X)

does NOT open anything :-L

I downloaded this in order to open .odt files I have and which I cannot read cuz OO1.x wont run on MacOSX 10.4 , OO2.x is not available yet and and NeoOffice is HELL slow (even on a 2GHz G5). So I treid to use this piece of Soft in order to get the content of these files, copy paste them into some 'normal' application and get rid of OO at last. In the description it says: "It opens all OpenOffice.org files ... files can be opened via OOSearch directly.", this is simply NOT true. It does NOT open anyting :-L [alert admin]

A little bit unfair...

Chris, I think it is YOU who is being unfair to your customers. My PowerBook never came back to normal operation after using iDefrag. Today (1 month passed) I finally had the time to reformat and reinstall my Computer. iDefrag costed me time and nerves and made things worse, instead of improving anything. Apple is right: better backup and restore your disks content then using ANY Defragmentation tool. Still: Happy Holidays to all of you! :)

WARNING!

for the sake of fairness I want to add to my previous post: The Errors describes yesterday DID occur after I i-defragged my HD. Today things work "normally" again. I did not do anything to fix things like using DiskTool. Apparently MacOSX is clever enough to rebuild itself and repair whatever went wrong during defragmentation. So things work fine again, but there is no difference that I could "feel" compared to how things ran before I used…

Rescue (was: WARNING!)

in case U R not afraid of some console commandline: there ARE backups of the previous .conf files. Just cp httpd.conf.bak to httpd.conf, restart apache and web works fine again. Similar for ftp. Poorly documented though. Google will help w. details.
