Switch 1.12 (Mac OS X)

Useless for RealMedia

The Windows version does RealMedia files (.ra, .ram, .rm), but the Mac version does not. http://www.nch.com.au/switch/faq.html#ABA [alert admin]

Opera 9.02 (Mac OS X)

Does not work on Opera's own web pages!

Exactly what versions of OS X is this turkey compatible with? I DARE you to find any system compatibility information --even for Windows-- on their web site. This matters to me because I have a Mac which will not run anything newer than Jaguar on it, and I need a modern, compatible, do-all browser, which Apple will not supply for anything older than Tiger. This application runs EXCRUCIATINGLY slow on my Mac. What is worse, when I go to Opera's website for information, the pop-up menus ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE do not function when viewed with Opera 9.0.2, the self-proclaimed king of compatibility. They work just fine with Safari 1.0.3. This is the second time I have attempted to leave remarks about this program on VersionTracker. The first time, I used Opera itself, and it spontaneously quit when I clicked the preview button. Pfui. [alert admin]

Apple Safari 2.0.1 (Mac OS X)

2.0.2 Feature Deletion

Where is my "New Tab" button??? Just reinstalled and Apple replaced it with a button for a bug report. (Thanks for the thoughtfulness, but I want my "New Tab" button back.) [alert admin]

America Online (AOL) 10.3.7 (Mac OS X)

Be sure to repair permissions!

Repairing permissions before and after an install is always good practice, but in my case, I found that new plug-ins were installed with the permissions mis-set. A slow-down in file transfers which had been annoying me was fixed by the re-install. On the other hand, AOL's awful habit of crashing when signing off automatically after a download has been preserved. [alert admin]

Windows Media Player 9.0 (Mac OS X)

What do you mean, I can't give it zero stars?

"The specified stream type is not recognized." This on a week-old clean install of Tiger. Enough said? Microsoft's own [expletive deleted] Media Player refuses to play or even open Microsoft's own [expletive deleted] proprietary format .WMV files. Burn in Hell, Bill Gates! [alert admin]

VLC media player 0.8.2 (Mac OS X)

It works

Happy, happy, joy, joy! It works. I can now play the Windows Media Video (for Windows XP) files which Windows Media Player 9.0 (for Macintosh OS X) cannot. Bill Gates is too [expletive deleted] lazy/selfish/stupid to build a WMP for Mac to play his own damned proprietary format. Now at last I can view the content my friends send me. I only wish the built in equalizer worked with .wmv files... [alert admin]

StereoGrabber 1.0 (Mac OS X)

OK, now what?

For the record, this is a standalone FileMaker Pro database. It ships with zero instructions or help function. It appears to store pairs of photographs in its database, (four pairs are included) but the "import record" function does not recognize .jpg, .tif, .pict, .psd, or most importantly, .jps format files. Curiously, it seems to be organized to use pairs of files, rather than single files with two images in them, as is standard for distributing stereo pairs within the hobby. I could give this one star, but that's being either generous or cruel; I cannot tell which because I cannot figure how it is suppposed to work. Shall we say, "not ready for prime time?" Captura 1.0 (Mac OS 9)

"Capture full screen…

after 10 seconds." function will not work with mouse button held down. i.e., you cannot take an automatic screen shot of a drop down menu. [alert admin]

File Buddy X 7.0b23 (Mac OS X)

File Buddy saved…

my ass again yesterday! OSX was not displaying my digital camera cards when inserted into the card reader. Disk Utility and even Sherlock confirmed that the card was mounted, and verified that the card was good, but I could not see the card on my desktop or in My Computer. Sherlock would display the files if I knew what names to ask for, but would not allow me to drag-copy them out of its window. FIle Buddy showed me everything, visible and invisible, on the card and allowed me to copy it successfully onto my HD. An indispensible product. [alert admin]

CATFINDER much better

Versiontracker for some reason continues to list CatFinder as an OS9-only application. Look there.
