SystemSound Extension 5.0u (Mac OS X)
What a completely awesome little tool this is! It had always annoyed me that OS X didn't have a native sound format it played without opening some app. Even AIFF files it wants to play through iTunes. What a bother! This beauty takes care of that problem once and for all. [alert admin]

Google Notifier 1.9.97 (Mac OS X)
Two to three times a day Google Notifier keeps asking me to sign into the service. I've already saved my account info in the Keychain, yet the dialog keeps coming up. Anyone else getting this? Using it with 10.4.9 on a MDD G4. [alert admin]

RadioSHARK 2.0.2 (Mac OS X)
Yay! At least tuning works again in 10.4.9 ![]()

This version fixes the problem with tuning in OS X 10.4.9 that arose if you applied the combo updater. Unfortunately the software itself is still poor, and one of the most dramatic examples of an application going backwards in functionality and ease of use between a 1.0 and 2.0 release I've ever seen. This program could have really been something if Griffin Technology had put sufficient resources behind the software. [alert admin]

Adium X 1.0.2 (Mac OS X)
Not getting any sound after the 1.0.2 update, worked fine before. Hope I can figure out how to get it back... [alert admin]

Apple Daylight Saving Time update (Mac OS X)
Apparently only those running 10.4.8 and 10.3.9 need this update, the rest of us using earlier versions of OS X don't keep up with the times anyway, so we don't care about accurate time zone and Daylight Saving Time information. [alert admin]

GameRanger 4.6.5 (Mac OS X)
Just about the only game I play now on the Mac is World of Warcraft, which, thank God, does not require GamerAnger in any way. The author is unresponsive to troubleshooting issues after multiple emails and I can only guess he is still quick to perma-ban users that offend him (no, I was not one of them). I'm sure he's nice to those who fork over the 50 duckets a year to him, I will never be one of them. Good riddance. [alert admin]

I was prompted to downloand and install the new version of Messenger, since the old version would no longer work. Once the setup was complete, it told me several times that my password was incorrect, then finally worked on the 5th try. Once again Microsoft, you fail. [alert admin]

Google Notifier 1.9.65 (Mac OS X)
I can't seem to get it to run on my system, it says "You cannot use the application 'Google Notifier.app' with this version of Max OS X." I'm using OS X 10.4.5 on a G4 tower, isn't that recent enough? The only requirement it lists is OS X 10.4. The applicaton does show it's a universal one, so what's the deal? I deleted the .plist from Gmail Notifier and removed its login item, but I don't think it's even getting to that point. [alert admin]

WoW Status 1.3.6.1 (Mac OS X)
I loved the idea of this software and paid for a copy. However, after using it for awhile, I found it to be inaccurate. It would show the same status continuously, no matter what the real population of the server was. Restarting the computer (no, not just the app) will reset it until it hangs again within a day. The preferences window also shows up *behind* any other windows you currently have open, so it can appear as if trying to open the prefs didn't work. These bugs have existed for months and the developer has not fixed them yet. Save your $6 and the headache until the author starts supporting the app. [alert admin]

RadioSHARK 2.0 (Mac OS X)
2.0 is a downgrade, not an upgrade ![]()

janiner's complaints below are all correct, a great deal of functionality was lost with the upgrade to version 2.0 from 1.0.5 for me: • There is no longer and option to record only on weekdays or weekends, all days get recorded for repeating programs and unwanted ones must be manually deleted from the schedule. • The RadioSHARK window opens every time there is a recording taking place, and cannot be closed without stopping recording. • My monitors no longer sleep or even go into screensaver mode with RadioSHARK active. They no longer sleep even when it is not as well, probably due to the sharkMonitor login item always running in the background. • The interface is smaller than before, harder to read, and is not customizable. Skins would go a long way to alleviate that problem. I'm sure there are others, but those are the main concerns. I will be downgrading (upgrading?) to 1.0.5 again. [alert admin]

Here is the current link for info about Watson at the Karelia website, as of 2/23/08 (though it is quite out of date): http://www.karelia.com/watson/watsonFAQ.html

It's also useful for folks who haven't upgraded to Leopard yet and either won't be or are waiting. Just because Leopard is out doesn't mean this app isn't wanted by those still running Tiger.

That function has nothing to do with the Apple Menu, at least not under Tiger. You select the file in the Finder, then use File -> Create Archive to do that function.

I like Pith Helmet too, but it does cause more crashes than running without it. I find it's usually on web pages with Flash content. Once I find a page that crashes 100% of the time, if I disable Pith Helmet and reload the page, no crash! I read somewhere, perhaps here, that once Leopard ships Apple will be removing the ability for programs to control web content like Pith Helmet currently does. We'll see how…

I agree, poor excuse for this and a poor workaround solution given. At tuning works now again in version 2.0.2. :)

Have you tried writing to the authors for a response? Not all authors read the comments at VersionTracker or other hosting sites, but you don't mention whether you've tried this or not and what response you've gotten, if any.

Your comment is about using this on that trash called Windows. This site and forum are for Mac OS X programs, not Windows. I'm sorry, but your problem is not relevant here.

Nice update, but adds to icon confusion in the dock… ![]()

Here's an idea, get rid of the Dock! I use DragThing have have been very happy with it. It has tons of features the Dock doesn't and never will have, and you can make the background colors whatever you like. I now keep the Dock hidden at all times and never have to see it unless my cursor slides too close to the edge of the screen where I keep it hidden.

I contacted the author through is web site and he responded within a day or so to a question I had, so I'm not sure what your issue is. Simply click the "Contact" link at the top of PithHelmet's home page (http://culater.net/software/PithHelmet/PithHelmet.php) and it'll give you an emai form to fill out. As for the crashing with JavaScript, I haven't experienced any in Safari I could attribute to PithHelmet.

I seem to recall this problem with the older 3.x versions, but with 4.3 running under OS 9 (not Classic, never tried that) the alarms always worked. One would think that reliable alarms would be something a company publishing a calendar program would be sure to get right. I guess some things never change. Thanks for the heads up! I won't be upgrading to the OS X version of NUTD until they fix this issue and…
