Microsoft Messenger 6.0.0 (Mac OS X)

Two windows for Contacts

Why are there now two windows for chat? I have a Personal Contacts window and a Corporate Contacts window. The old version had tabs in one window to switch between the two lists. Being in a corporate environment I need to use Corporate side to keep in contact with my coworkers and the company. But I also use MSN to chat with friends and family. Why split the lists into two individual windows? That just uses up more screen real-estate. [alert admin]

Microsoft Office 2004 11.2.3 (Mac OS X)

Still doesn't sync everything with Exchange.

Good but still not what I need. Don't get me wrong. Synching with .Mac services, iCal, and Address Book is nice, and worked for me after I got through all the conflicts. But that's just a "nice to have" item. A "what needs to be and should already have been" is syncing between MS Entourage and MS Outlook via Exchange service. Categories, Notes, and Tasks still do not sync between the two programs. E- mail information, such as IM address, Picture, and Web page address don't transfer over either. I haven't checked to see what else is not being transfered between the two applications, but it has been a definite annoyance since day one. If using these application with Exchange then it should be syncing all information. One needs to be able to retain all information at all times. [alert admin]

QuikTime FS 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Excellent work

I just downloaded this. This is perfect. I remember when QT was a free app. Then one day, Apple decided to make it a paid for version. That was fine, but when they took away many of the features that were available in the free version I was angry. Even the most common stuff like full screen was removed. It's nice to see that an app like this now exists. Keep up the good work. And hopefully, Apple won't try to keep you from giving this wonderful product away. I would definitely recommend this to anyone how has not purchased QuickTime Pro. [alert admin]

Defaults Manager 1.0 Beta 4 (Mac OS X)

You're kidding, right?

Why use this at $20 when you can use Property List Editor from the Developer Tools or BBEdit Light, both of which are free? [alert admin]

Marine Aquarium X 2.0.4 (Mac OS X)

One of the best screensavers out there.

This is by far one of the best screensavers I have found. When I first saw it on TechTV:TheScreenSavers I was stunned. I was then stunned again to find out that it was only Windows based. I, along with I don't know how many kept bugging and urging the author to port it to the Macintosh. When he finally did, I bought a copy within a week, and have been using it since. alansfraser, interesting point about the monitor but I think everyone does have a legitimist point about the price. $20 does seem high for a singe screensaver. Even if it is one of the coolest savers around. Flip side of the coin. I know what it takes to code something like this. 3D poly textures, multi-layer environment, gel shading for a shimmering effect, not to mention collision detection and a low-level AI for each fish. The things that would make this saver better at this point would be to have the fish interact with each other (a peaking order? Fights?). Maybe a more realistic aquarium, where one can over/under/feed the fish, have to clean the glass, or tap on the glass. [alert admin]

License Database 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Not bad for…

a FileMaker Database. Too bad I've already made my own that also has crossreferences the application and what computers their on. Not to mention individual fields for various items. I guess for the single user it would work just fine. But then, so would an Excel speadsheet. [alert admin]

XGuest 1.0 (Mac OS X)

This is exactly…

what I have been looking for. I run a personal file server for my department, but didn't want anyone, i.e. guest, to be able to access my computer. Untill today, I had to settle to allow guest access on my computer. Before I had used SharePoints so he public folders were not being shown but that still left the ability to log in as guest across the network. This nice little utility keeps people from even attempting to log in as guest by greying out the guest option. Nice work. [alert admin]

I just came…

across a bug. If you don't make any changes and just quit the app, then relaunch it, it will have a extra library set to the same path as the origonal iPhoto library. Keep quitting and relaunching and you get and extra library each time, with no way to delete them. The only way to get rid of the extra libraries is to delete the Preferences file "com.mac.bwebster.iPhotoLibraryManager.plist" This only occurs when you have not created any other library. Fix the bug and you get five stars. [alert admin]

Looks like a…

nice upgrade but I won't be buying it because it doesn't run natively under X. If it was able to run in OS X I would of given it higher marks. [alert admin]

Great. Now how…

about fixing MS Entourage. I haven't been able to it with my HotMail account since MS "fixed" the servers. [alert admin]
