PocketMac for BlackBerry 4.1.25 (Mac OS X)
...has anyone tried this to see if it fixes syncing with Office 2008, particularly Entourage 2008? [alert admin]

AOL Desktop for Mac Beta 17 (Mac OS X)
...if so, why didn't they call this v1.0.1 b1? I agree -- in my years of developing software, i've never heard of such a lengthy trajectory of confused releases. [alert admin]

Apple MacBook Pro EFI Firmware 1.5.1 (Mac OS X)
firmware already at newest version?
My MBP already has the stated firmware version, even though I only applied the EFI v1.5 update. Software update didn't say I needed it, and the standalone installer said my machine did not need the update either. Is it a change in the firmware installer, or to the actual firmware? [alert admin]

Apple AirPort 5.3.1 (Mac OS X)
no firmware updates--standalones now avail.
As reported on MacFixIt, there aren't any new firmware updates for the base stations themselves. (I got the Windows version at work, and I watched it download the current firmware files, which included v6.3 for Airport Express, which is the current vers.) But, the standalone installers and the apple web pages seem to be back up today (3/12). [alert admin]

Subway Maps for iPhone 1.3 (Mac OS X)
jeez, great shareware apps that take time & effort to build and test, cost less than this. I find it incredibly egotistical to sell a few minutes of photoshop work for $12. Wow. Kids, go to the MTA's website and chop up their system maps yourselves and copy them into iPhoto. [alert admin]

MAME OS X 0.118 (Mac OS X)
On first run, like the previous comment, it tries to validate your ROM files and seems like it goes through its entire internal list even if you don't have all of them. I killed it after 40 min. and it was only up to "C". I ended up scrolling to the games I wanted to play, selecting their names, and validating just those, just so I could play it. But, c'mon, 5 hours isn't really useable. Once in the games, I noticed a few more graphic artifacts than on MacMAME (esp. in vector games) but seemed to play well otherwise. Coming out of games, a lot of 'unexpected quits'. Definitely looking promising, but I'll stick with MacMAME for now. [alert admin]

Apple Safari 3.0b (Mac OS X)
Also no problems installing 3 beta here -- one thing I do really like is the new Find feature, which works like FireFox's. A "find" bar appears at the top of the window, and it highlights all the occurrences on a page as you type. And, it shows a quick but useful orange hilite animation as you cycle through the found bits so you can actually see what's being found (before, the page would jump somewhere when you hit Cmd-G and the hilites were often impossible to see). I do notice a bit more fan revving, but it's beta, after all. All in all a nice (if small) improvement to the mac version. I also tried the Windows version and it's a little rougher around the edges; it's kind of dark and gloomy looking, with a noticeably darker grey, and fonts seem a bit too soft. But that's a great first step, and a smart move. [alert admin]

Apple AirPort Base Station Update 2007-001 (Mac OS X)
If you extract the Airport Utility 5.1 with Pacifist, it seems to work fine! [alert admin]

Adobe Reader 8.0 (Mac OS X)
The previous commenter sounds a bit high-strung. You can still see two pages at a time; it's just been renamed. Look under View -> Page Display -> Two-up Works well for me. Overall it's cleaner, I think. Fewer microsoft-ish toolbars proliferating all over the place, like Reader 6 had. [alert admin]

SoundConverter 20061025 (Mac OS X)
...works well for me. I was annoyed by the pops at teh end of MP3s I was batch converting for a work project, and they seem to be fixed now! Nice little app. If you need to do batch conversions, give it a shot. My only complaints are minor: no ReadMe (only an internal FAQ), no explanation of how "normalize" works (compared to what this usually does in Pro sound apps), and a few too many menu items under the application menu, instead of a standard Prefs window. But really, those are pretty minor details. [alert admin]

Version 3 was not a free upgrade... upgrade from v2 is $17.95. You can purchase a new serial number on their website. You can even search for your old v2 serial number on their site at https://www.panic.com/transmit/support.html. It's all pretty clear on their website, on the "buy" page.
