Quay 1.1.2 (Mac OS X)
Version 1.1.2 (297) now posted.
This new build fixes the timeout bug that was disabling the QuayMenu background process on Snow Leopard after a certain click pattern. Also, stacking screens vertically now works if menu bar and Dock are on different screens. All users should update. [alert admin]

Quay 1.1b3 (Mac OS X)
I found an issue on some Intel Macs with 1.1b3 (249) where the "Average CPU %" value in the application popup was completely wrong. It's fixed now, and because it's such a small change I preferred not to bump the beta number, but just incremented the build number. So if you're affected by this, please download again and reinstall. My apologies for this slip-up. [alert admin]

Nudge 1.01 (Mac OS X)
Re: Do we still need Nudge for Tiger?
No, so far it looks like the Tiger Finder has indeed cleaned up its act. I haven't had to use Nudge myself yet on Tiger. [alert admin]

RBSplitView 1.1.2 (Mac OS X)
Please check the file length...
I caught a one-line bug after publishing and have re-uploaded the file. The correct zip file length should be 489,141 bytes. Sorry about that. [alert admin]

Re:Un-mac-like. Why the mystery?
The App and the Help file, even the installer itself, appear only as aliases...
...once I've put the folder where I want it, the alias can no longer find its master...
Well, that's why. It's not meant to be a drag&drop installation. The first alias clearly says "Quay Installer (please double-click)", and I wanted to prevent users from doing precisely what you tried to do. The installer has to put files into precise locations and change their…

still cannot drag off of menus...
That would indeed be a plus, since you can't drag off the Dock's menus either. In fact, I'm not aware of _any_ application where you can drag off menus... it may even be impossible. Will look into it, though.

Perhaps the help file didn't explain this properly? 1)If you drag a folder onto the Quay window, then to the Dock, it becomes a "Quay Icon". This looks like a folder but is in reality a special file which only Quay understands. Because it is a file, you can't drag anything onto it; but it's easy to assign a special icon to it while setting it up in Quay. 2) If you drag a folder directly from…

"Yes, but Quay lacks one of the most important (in my opinion) options - drag and drop." Not true at all; since 1.1b1 Quay does popups for Stacks for too; and you _can_ drag and drop on a Stack.

Strange happenings after 10.5.2 install
Why is that strange? It's a new Quay feature since 1.1b1, and took me lots of work to do, too! ;-)

Thanks for registering! Well, you'll still need Quay unless you're content with 10.5.2's plain menus and few sort options. Check out the new comparison shots on the product website for details...

The good, the bad and the ugly
"File: "Quay.rsrc" Detected that the resources overlap and cannot be repaired" Yes, that's deliberate; the overlap is part of my codesigning scheme. Simply disregard that message. I'll put a notice in the next version to that effect. As to my website, my ISP had a few hour's downtime due to server migration, it's OK again. May I ask what you disliked about the software itself, then? :-)

While you're certainly free to wait for the supposed next version, you may want to compare features; I certainly wouldn't charge for doing the same thing. "Best of all Apples implementation will almost definitely be bug free": while I have the utmost respect for Apple's engineers - some of which are my friends - there is no such thing as "bug free". ;-)

Simon; I'm working on this. Oddly enough, I can't reproduce this on any of my own Macs, and very few users are running into this bug - so far there's no common circumstance I can find. The new version (which should be out after Christmas) will use a different scheme that should avoid whatever causes this. My apologies.

There's no Apple-supported way of putting an icon into the Dock. I could add it to Dock's preferences and then kill and restart it; this has side-effects like also killing Dashboard and all widgets. No, it's best left to the user to organize the Dock, at least until Apple publish a safe way of changing it.
