Mask Pro 4.1.2 (Mac OS X)

There are other ways...

...to get the same result what Mask Pro does. Try copying a color channel to an alpha channel and edit it with the "Nachbelichter" und "Abwedler" tools ( I only know the German terms, but you select them with the "O" key). Then load the alpha channel as selection, done. And, a bit irritating, OnOne software finely tears "update" from "patch". The difference is: The "update" installer loads from the website in normal speed – but won't install ("Can't find previous version"). Vice versa, the "patch" can only be loaded from the Mask Pro application resp. filter dialog itself, loads SLOOOOOOOOOWLY (10 kbyte / second) and blocks the complete Photohop (it took about 40 minutes for me). But after waiting so long – surprise – the .pkg file also is named "Update" and won't install either. Har har. [alert admin]

Interarchy 9.0.1 (Mac OS X)

The days of Interarchy are over.

Sorry, but now I killed the app from my Mac. I used Interarchy since nearly 10 years, but it gets worse and worse. Why is there a version 9 at all? Why did we have to wait for a 9.0.1 update that long? And why didn't the "big 9.0.1 update" change the stability issues at all? When I try to transmit bigger files (50 MByte ZIPs), the transfer stops at the end, the app hangs and crashes, and the file is damaged. Every time. Regardless the "active/passive" mode. There is still a useless, half-programmed "view options" window (it's there since version 8) that no one else would dare to publish in an alpha version. The answer of the author: "I'll make a note of this and see what I can do." - There you are. No more money from me. [alert admin]

Microsoft Office 2008 12.0.1 (Mac OS X)

This version is customer fraud.

Be very aware if you try to "work" with this – I still can't really believe it: <b>Word 2008 does NOT do a correct "Save as" when a protected document is opened!</b> I tried it with some documents: Open the locked file, change content, try to close, fill out "Save As" dialog and - nothing happens, and the document still has its old name. When you close now, any changes are lost. Also really bad: <b>Excel does crash EVERY time I print anything</b>, no matter if PDF, PS or a real printer. Afterwards all changes are lost. So I always have to do it like this: Open document, make changes, open "print" command, change preferences etc., CANCEL print dialog, Save document, print again and be prepared that the app crashes. Both issues didn't change with the 12.0.1 "update". Has this piece of CRAP ever been tested? [alert admin]

Toast Titanium 9.0 (Mac OS X)

No update for me...

...as long as my old v6.1.1 runs. I have also v7 but I even don't use this one. Roxio ist now just a useless, greedy company (just like the StufIit Deluxe pals). More bugs and gigantous packages every version. One of the worst constructed and slowest websites I ever visited (while I write this, the product page is still loading and nothing happens for minutes). No support if you need one. But the best idea this company ever had: There is <b>NO</b> update pricing any more, you have to take the full priced version - or leave it. I chose the last option. Bah. Shame on you. [alert admin]

WriteRoom 2.0.1 (Mac OS X)

Freeware became Shareware

I liked v1 very much – and I am definetely going to continue using version 1, because I think that $25 is far to much for what WriteRoom does. You could also take a BBEdit document and set up black background, so you have just the same (and even more). I recommend v1 which was Freeware. I do not like it at all when an application says "Update available" but there is no word about changing the licence model! [alert admin]

Suitcase Fusion 12.0.1 (Mac OS X)

The "big" 12.0.1 upgrade...

Wow, this is the first time I ever downloaded an update (50,6 MB) that is almost douuble size of the original software installer (v12.0.0 had 30 MB)... But, sorry Extensis, I am not going to use the "Fusion" version (v.12) as long as "X1" (v.11) works for me. Got an idea: Let's make a contest how the v.13 will be named! (My first suggestions: "Suitcase Bang" or "Suitcase Ground Zero")! Get beyond those dumb version numbers that anyone can understand! [alert admin]

Suitcase Fusion 12.0 (Mac OS X)

Fusion damaged my font files!

After years of using the old instable Suitcase X1 versions, I was hopeful the hangs and crashes would have come to an end. Bah! Nice GUI, and Fusion seemed quite stable at a first glance, but then... First some PS1 Fonts didn't re-open automatically after rebooting. More than that, that I couldn't open them manually (saying "Damaged font"). Then there is a new command called "reset damaged marking" (or so, using the German version). Preview worked again, but Fusion couldn't open them anyway. had to fix this with Font Doctor. Then Fusion displayed some other fonts as "damaged". Then I re-installed Xuitcase X1. Font files were damaged inrepairably. Had to reinstall from CD. Never again! [alert admin]

DVD2oneX 2.0.1 (Mac OS X)

A moderate app got bad / transactions suspect

It took me quite a while to understand the old v1.4, but I surrender with v2. No one understands this interface or the preference settings. It once was a quick but sometimes buggy app, but this v2 "upgrade" has no comprehensible user interface anymore. On the "business" side, there is NO invoice and NO confirmation of the amount of money you spend when ordering an update (and don't ask for VAT things). And you get a fifty (FIFTY!) digit unlock code that can't be pasted from the clipboard. Even very nice is the support query confirmation: "Your email will be read within 24 hours" - does that mean "do not expect an answer"? <p><p> If you have 1.4, keep it. [alert admin]

StuffIt Deluxe 10.0 (Mac OS X)

v10 Worse Than Ever – Keep Your Money

If you have v8 or v9, keep it and do not spend money on this "Misgrade". v8 was the last version that was good and stable, v9 had improvements but lacks, but v10 is CRAP. Stuffit Expander crashes again and again, ZIP expansion via Contextual Menu quits with "internal error", but the Deluxe App says anything is OK, and the DropStuff App doesn't do SIT (without X) anymore! The so-called "enhanced options" do not make any sense against the simpler ones of v9, and there is nothing what I call "support" anymore, only an Online Forum where you have to register first. By the way, the fact that you still can't paste your SN from the clipboard into the installation dialog is somewhat anachronistic. Keep your money, use v8 or v9! [alert admin]

Overflow 1.4 (Mac OS X)

What does it do...

...what DragThing doesn't? OK, it's a bit cheaper (but still quite expensive), but it's less flexible and limited to just one "dock". And it won't suppress the icons of running apps in the dock (I was hoping so), so my dock isn't "saving room". Anything else can be done (better?) by DT... Nevertheless, I bought it, because the red "Test Period" label was so annoying. [alert admin]

Greedy company ruined well-known product.

I fully agree. I was a true user since 1994. But since version 10 I more and more doubt what this software is good for. I took v11 as a "last try", but I will not upgrade to v12. For what? Compressing to SITX is slow. (Does anybody know why SITX had to be invented at all?) Compresing to ZIP is slow (and the Finder does this even better). The Archive Manager app does not…

Sounds Great ... Where is it?

It's a bit confusing... When you go to the Updates' page, there are no links at the entries. You have to log in first (at the upper left corner of the page) then the page reloads with download links.
