VueScan 7.6.9 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Makes good scans…

but crashes often after doing preference adjustments. On OSX.2 Jaguar I SAVE THE PREFS AND THIS MAKES A RESTART OF THE PROGRAM A CINCH. Nonetheless, it would be good if the bug is detected and solved so this did not happen. [alert admin]

ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 1.0.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

companies are not…

shut down by dishonest CEOs if indeed there is one at ATI..innocent until proven guilty on this side of the border (Canada). ATI makes wonderful cards...period. They know the Mac inside and out and except for one serious breach of ettiquite with the premature announcement a few years ago, they have been good partners with Apple. I plan on getting the 9000 card soon, myself. [alert admin]

I am amazed…

that people are complaining here about VueScan. I switched to this software as Polaroid did not see fit to produce an update to their software for older scanners that they made several years ago. i would have been glad to buy that but they themselves recommended VueScan! It crashes occasionally but with OS 10xxx it is no big deal. The main thing I find with this software is that it is faster than the original software. I can scan a roll of film of 24 images in about 45 minutes including colour correction.. very good indeed. I cannot speak for fake alias entries but I can assure you this is not one of them. As well, I have never had the experience of not being able to update the software. [alert admin]

Actually, Sparky67, as…

I am using version 5.3 of Polacolor for OS9 on a vintage Sprintscan 35plus, it is not at all unreasonable that I would be expected to pay for R and d for software that runs in OSX. Sad to say, Polacolor 6 does not recognise my scanner so I use VueScan which works well in any case and is easier to colour calibrate and requires rather less mouse-ing athletics. I have my doubts about scsi incompatibility in OS 10.2 as the server model comes with scsi cards from Apple. It might be Adaptec which has this problem as this is an old story with their cards. Stubborn File Remover 1.0 (Mac OS X)

  An easy…

way to remove files that will not delete on OSX is my method which I figured out after frustratingly trying to dump a file from which I got the message that it is in use ...I use stuffit and in the preferences I ask that the original be deleted...IT DOES IT! I then dump the sit file as well and that is that...try it and tell me if you have the same luck as I... Do not ask me why Stuffit does the trick in the delete preferences but it did it for me every time I tried it. It is a mystery...As we say, computers are organic and they have their own mysteries.  [delete]   [alert admin]

SilverFast Ai Polaroid 6.0.1d03 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

I wish that…

the software will support earlier Polaroid scanners. It has nice features that are missed that would have been great on my sprintscan plus. I would gladly pay for software that would upgrade my scanner software. Vuescan is the alternatice that runs OSX but there is no alternative and there are times when a differing approach would be useful. [alert admin]

VueScan 7.5.55 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

I find that…

VueScan works very well and has a host of adjustments not available on Polascan not the least of which is OSX compatibility. It also freezes occasionally which is a bit of a bore but by saving the adjustments as a ini file I can restart the program without rebooting of course on OSX and I lose just a minute and continue on. I think the multiple pass feature is excellent as the images when double scanned are more contrasty and sharp. Excellent software with just a tiny flaw. [alert admin]

Epson SS2500/SC1200 10.1.2 (Mac OS X)

It is clear…

to me that Epson is simply interested in selling ink. the machines are relatively cheap for the most part but once one owns the hardware, the smiling stranger is more than glad to supply the habit. Why bother making drivers for old machines, they surmise, since the quality of the new machines is so much better, you will dump the old ones, buy another chunk of plastic and metal and buy those new inks. Epson can then stop making the older inks, cut inventory and so forth...Oh no! That is not what they do...they jack up the price of the old inks instead to make them really profitable so either you pay the big bucks, buy the new hardware and suffer. It is the world of capitalism and if one does not like it..go back to a 9 pin printer that uses a ribbon! I have a couple of antiquated printers and cannot figure out what to do with them. OSX drivers for them? ha. When hell freezzes over... [alert admin]

Amazing Slow Downer X 1.1.7 (Mac OS X)

I do not…

need this software, nonetheless, the size of the app should not be considered...it is the creative side that is being paid for...it does its job according to all comments and it does not crash nor does it have the kind of audience that Graphic Converter would have. Thus, it costs more due to its lower expected returns. That's economic theory in a nutshell. No one forced anyone to buy it so the price is independent of these complaints. If one is a musician and needs this particular feature..or a movie maker or multimedia artist, this software could be a superb and therefore cheap addition to one's software. Take that you folks who want everything for free.... [alert admin]

Polaroid PolaColor Insight 5.0.3 (Mac OS 9)

I have been…

using this software for several months and it is stable and overall very easy to use. I would say that the interface is somewhat inefficient as one has to repetitively move the mouse back and forth all over the screen to perform tasks but this is a small thing most of the time. I would have liked it to run in OSX and hope that an update will be forthcoming. I suspect most OSX users would be willing to pay for this upgrade. It is intuitive especially with respect to colour balancing and in almost all cases one need not do more than learn by hands-on. One addition to the program that would be most welcome is the ability to multi-scan such as found in Vuescan so that the overall s/n could be increased by this means. I would rate the software as a five star as it is otherwise fine. Oh yes, it does support Sprintscan Plus scanners also. [alert admin]

DVDFASTCOPY - BEWARE. THIS DOES NOT WORK, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY

This letter from a charitable organisation ripped off and disappointed by Velan is a sad judgment on so much software over the years but this Velan company seems to take the cake for being more or less criminal and fraudulent in their total and insensitive lack of commitment to the customer. I am glad that the terrible situation vis a vis the children's organisation and Velan is for all to read. I would…
