rsyncbackup 1.0 (Mac OS X)

Too complicated for the average user

This tool does not support resource forks, so unless you want to mangle your files you'll have to download an additional package and figure out how to install it. You'll also have to know how to add cron jobs and monitor them. This is an admin only type tool. Regular users will need to look elsewhere. [alert admin]

DeStore 1.3 (Mac OS X)

Does absolutely nothing

I had originally tried an earlier version with my USB external drive and although it acted like it was doing something it had not. So I downloaded this latest version and once again it acted like it was doing something, I heard the external drive working away... Plugged it into my PC and every single directory still had all the files this program was supposed to delete! Utterly useless. [alert admin]

Starfleet Medical Screen Saver 1.1 (Mac OS X)

Very poor

These "screensavers" consist of a brief Trek sound and a rotating low res graphic. This would have been impressive in 1989. [alert admin]

Microsoft Office 2004 11.0 (Mac OS X)

For those who think Entourage works "fine" with Exchange...

It's a shame that people in a single user environment have no clue what a problem not having a true Exchange client is in the business world. Yes, if you only have to check your own email entourage is fine on an exchange server. Please do not confuse being able to collect your email with being a true Exchange client. In a business environment Exchange is not used simply for email. It's a business tool for sharing information among hundreds/thousands/tens of thousands of users. My company posts calendars of meetings scheduled for several conference rooms and a conference center in the public folders. entourage cannot access calendars in public folders. we cannot use the built in group scheduling and invitation function that is essential in a business environment. departments that have to monitor shared email boxes cannot add those boxes to their primary account: entourage does not support this feature which has been in Outlook for at least five years. do not fixate on the usefulness of products in a single user environment and then put down those of us that have deal-breaking problems because we need this to function as a business tool. i'm glad the product works for your very limited need but it is forcing me to replace macs with PCs. isn't that the ultimate in product failure for those of us that want to use macs in the workplace? it's terribly frustrating for me to have one damn program undermine my plans to keep my workplace primarily mac. those days are now over for me. :P [alert admin]

Microsoft Office 2004 11.0 (Mac OS X)

Still no true Exchange client for Mac - zero stars

It is hugely disappointing that Microsoft has released a new version of Office for Mac without upgrading Entourage to be a true Exchange client. This makes absolutely no sense at all. I am slowly converting my workplace (65 machines) over to PC because we are forced to run Outlook 2001 in Classic mode to access Exchange properly and O2001 is a horrible, buggy, crippled mess. We use Exchange for group calendaring and contacts as well as shared info in public folders, none of which Entourage supports properly. We also have many users who have to share accounts, like executives and their assistants which cannot be done in Entourage. Shame on microsoft for abandoning Outlook on the Mac. [alert admin]

X-Plane 7.40b18 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)

Ignore the fake reviews by elitists

Anyone who bases their opinion of MSFS by saying "it's not a flight simulator" can safely be ignored. meanwhile as someone who has been using BOTH since their inception I can say that they each cater very well to their target audiences. When I want hardcore simulation with an emphasis on physics and flexibility I break out xplane. When I want a more overall flight experience with all sorts of nice usability and graphic features and an undeniably enormous library of user created items I go for MSFS. Both make me happy for different reasons. Both are solid protects with their own quirky shortcomings. Both have rabid camps of zealots defending them. Just try Xplane for yourself. Do not be put off by the steep learning curve. it's the price one pays for power. And with MSFS do not be put off by idiots calling it a toy to make themselves feel better about living in their mother's basement. Anyone sitting in front of a computer pretending to fly a plane has no business putting down people for playing with a toy. ;) [alert admin]

Homeland Alert 3.6.5 (Mac OS X)

Just knowing this program exists has made me dumber

I hope this was just the result of a project for high school or something. That anyone would seriously write this thing and charge for it is almost as scary as someone actually using it and paying for it. Yikes! [alert admin]

SoundandLights II 1.5 (Mac OS X)

Exceptionally silly

Thank you for keeping the spirit of mac-based silliness alive. Some people want the Mac to be just like Windows, with no soul at all. If you have no sense of humor just keep moving along. Otherwise download this and see what I mean. [alert admin]
