Pacifist 2.0.1 (Mac OS X)

One of the Best

This is one of those all time great applications that you hope you'll never have to use. It's also useful for the tinkerer. I rarely use it but am most appreciative of having it when I need it! [alert admin]

Adobe DNG Converter & Camera Raw 3.6.0b141 (Mac OS X)

Works with Photoshop CS (2) 9.02 !!

It appears to work fine with CS 2 at the correct location for that version (which I believe is different from the PS 7.01 version). I removed the current plug-in and safely stored it elsewhere. Then I put the new beta in: /Library/Applications Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS2/File Formats. I opened two RAW (Nef) files created by a Nikon D80, one of the new cameras added with the beta. The previous version would _not_ open D80 RAW files. This worked for me as I hurriedly checked only two files. The helpful folks at Adobe didn't bother with a ReadMe of any kind. Thanks Adobe. :( [alert admin]

TinkerTool System 1.51 (Mac OS X)

Trust

There are similar applications to TinkerTool System but this is the one written by the author of TinkerTool which, as I recall, was the *first* useful freeware software of any kind for the then new Mac OSX. [alert admin]

Epson TWAIN & Scan Utility Intel 2.77A (Mac OS X)

OK with 3170

Works fine with a model 3170. Not certain what all the complaints about this software and hubs are about. Scanners are notorious for not working with hubs. Even some printers (similar engineering situation) don't work with hubs. It also helps to buy a high end hub like the one that Griffin sells for digital music. I've had five or six hubs and never had complete success with any of them with a variety of devices. Right now my 3170 is plugged directly into my Cinema display. It formerly worked connected to a USB (wired) keyboard. No more. So what else is new about USB connections? [alert admin]

Pacifist 2.0 (Mac OS X)

Rating

Try finding many apps on VT that have been rated 90 times with an average of 4.9. Nuff said. [alert admin]

Macromedia Shockwave Player 10.1.1.016 (Mac OS X)

PPC Macs Require This Certain Sites

www.royalgorgeroute.com is an example of certain sites that require this upgrade after security update 001 or 002 is run. It and/or the one for Macromedia Flash Player prevent "unexpected quit" for FoxFire and Safari. No problems were noted for this update with Safari. Update may NOT be needed for all sites nor may it be needed if Apple security updates 001 and 002 for 2006 have no been run. [alert admin]

Macromedia Flash Player 8.0.24 (Mac OS X)

Required for some sites

After installation/update on a PPC Mac certain sites with Apple Security update 001 or 002 the browser no longer "quit unexpectedly" when accessed by Safari and FoxFire. One problem site is www.royalgorgeroute.com. This installation and the current one for Flash Player solves whatever issue was created by the security update, BUT appears to be specific only to a few sites. [alert admin]

MoosePad X 10.3 (Mac OS X)

Backup First

Previous update was so stable that it only got better with 10.2 then 10.3. With 10.4 its functionality is great. I'm definitely keeping a backup of this old installer. Works great IMHO. I prefer "works" over "features" any day. FWIW. Not rated as have rated before. [alert admin]

ViewIt 2.9.7 (Mac OS X)

Great Support

This is not a new shareware product. It seems to me the vendor has been around forever and is continually enhancing and adding new features to his products and debugging any minor problems. Too many shareware vendors come and go and you're lucky if they're still around 6 or 12 months after you purchase a product. But NOT this vendor. Good product. It's the best of its class IMHO. I use it. GraphicConverter, and Photoshop as my primary graphics applications. This fits right in and is most helpful. The price is very reasonable IMO. [alert admin]

For failed 1.2 Firmware updates only

Then why have it in the first place? Doesn't show up in software update and won't install on PowerBook G4. Am I supposed to look up last version of every minor update? Why isn't this in the VT description, Apple?

problem installing

Sounds like you got a bum download. Disk image mounts fine for me. Try downloading again. It happens. Rarely fortunately.

One bug they forgot to fix...

BBEdit has its (inferior) competitors but TextMate isn't one of them. You've got to be kidding.

Fait accompli

Good review of the iSync feature although it's not really a complete enough review IMHO to give app a one star. Still worth reading as this is one feature that attracts me. I gave most reviews a "helpful" comment as a number of users had information to add. Think I'll wait a bit beyond vers. 1.0 but this does look promising to me as I have two Macs I'd…

Not worth the money if using Mail.app

Not exactly a scientific report based on number of spams, number of false positives, percentage of spam caught......in short you're guessing. Try filtering 125-150 messages per day and report back in a month. Mail has a decent filter. It's not as good as spamsieve.

Riddled with UI issues

Should have pointed out the developer's link provided above. This is not your average watered down email app. Power user"s only? I think not. Mediocre UI, most definitely, but look at the trade offs. Linux friend cussing you out due to line length or assorted other features, integration with BBEdit and PGP, inclusion of SpamSieve, et al still make this a good buy IMHO. …

Riddled with UI issues

Good comments but I think the power of filtering, GREP, et al are worth the UI hurdles which aren't that great. Anyone using email normally uses it a good deal of time and this app is worth more than a shakedown cruise IMHO.

hmmm..

Column view isn't "like the Finder." It's not default. It's a NeXT coder's idea of Heaven, my idea of hell. ;)

Viewit loop

Lex old boy: Agree with you in all your comments. Wish I could answer your question but I can't find it either. Preferences for slide show in GraphicConverter address the infinite loop issue. But this app IS handier to use so can live without this feature which appears to have minimal usefulness even for large directories in numbers of files.

We're not greedy, we're actually pretty friendly!

Also can't determine what, if anything useful, such as apparent conflicts with DiskWarrior, have been made in this version. So why pay *anything* of unknown value? May need to call that toll free number. My thanks at least for posting that.
