Ford Racing 2 1.0.1 (Mac OS X)
Having played and been deeply impressed with the graphics and realistic physics of Feral's "Total Immersion Racing", their latest effort, "Ford Racing 2" is a complete disappointment. The graphics, sound, realism, and game play pale in comparison. What gives Feral, the games are supposed to be getting better, not worse? While Total Immersion Racing was much more of a racing simulator, Ford Racing 2 is very arcade like. But it fails dynamically on every level. And PLEASE guys. Yes, Ford has a strong history and commitment to racing (GT40, Mustang, Ford Powered, Cobras, Sierra and Escort Cosworth, years of Ford Powered Formula 1 cars and their WRC efforts.) And while they may have just pulled the plug on Jaguar racing, one cannot ignore their history and strong Cosworth links. And yes I know it's in the game but who the F@#* cares about the SVT Lighting being the fastest truck or how much it can tow? [alert admin]

Total Immersion Racing 1.0.1 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
I bought this game when I purchased a new Dual 2.0 G5, upgraded with a Radeon 9800 Pro (retail) and a 23" Cinema Display. I also purchased a Logitch Wingman Force Feedback wheel. Racing sims for the Mac are few and far between so it pleases me to no end what a brilliant piece of work Total Immersion Racing is. The game play, graphics, sounds and action are fantastic and this runs up there with some of the best PC games I've played. My only gripe with the game itself (and TIR isn't the only racing sim afflicted) is the lack of damage from hitting objects or other cars making the action more arcade like than simulation. None-the-less the game is a MUST HAVE for any Mac fan with fast enough CPU and a love for racing. One word of warning for any ATI 9800 Pro users. Using ATI's control panel to turn on the FSAA, Anisotropic Filterning or Vertical Sync will cause the game and the entire system to crash. Repeatedly. It looks beautiful while it lasts and the game is still playable on my equipment in full screen mode (1920x1200) with the Radeon settings at medium but it's impossible to get more than 4-5 laps. Turn it off. [alert admin]

Apple Mac OS X 10.2.3 (Mac OS X)
good. It doesn't seem to be all metal apps have the recessed buttons. I believe only apps you can "Quit" by hitting the red button have them recessed. I guess I'm the only one so far who appreciates the distinction. I like it. [alert admin]

F1 Championship Season 2000 1.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
to their opinion. Yes I'm happy that Feral has released a racing game for the Mac (particularly an F1 sim of which I'm a big fan). But that some of you peeps rate it 5 stars is just astonishing to me. Do you REALLY believe what you're writing? Who are you hoping to impress? Is this a joke? Have any of you seen F1-2001/2002 on the PC or Playstaton or GPL on the PC? They blow this out of the water in every which way. Next you'll all be defending Pole Position on Macmame. Now that I've reinstalled it and it's actually working I'm giving the game 3 stars which I think is generous and biased as I've been desperate for a racing sim (Cro-mag rally does not cut it). A G4 with a semi-decent graphics card is capable of a LOT more than this. [alert admin]

F1 Championship Season 2000 1.0 (Mac OS 9, Mac OS X)
exactly the same problem you are on a Digital Audio G4/733 with OS 10.2.2. I'm going to try and download the installer again and reinstall it from scratch but it's odd. None of the keys work but when I plug in my USB Joystick and set all the controls to automatic I can accelerate very slowly in 3rd gear but nothing else. I don't want to rate the game until I can actually play a few rounds but I'm not very impressed so far. I could care less that the game is based on the 2000 season (the last really exciting round in the championship) but this game looks the same as the PC version from 3 years ago. The graphics and gameplay seem terribly dated. How long as Feral been working on this? [alert admin]

to remember that Chimera is a Beta and very much a work in progress. For that reason I will not rate it and I really question how anybody can give it 5 stars. Hello!? It's not finished yet! I've been using it since version 0.3 and for a while I was also downloading the nightly builds. So far 0.6 seems pretty stable and it's good enough now to use it as my browser of choice for 85% of what I need a browser for. From the progress I've seen over the last 7 or 8 months I think Chimera has the potential to be the best browser out there for OS X. It renders most pages at least as fast or in most cases faster than IE and it's Cocoa underpinings and desire of the development team to keep it simple and streamlined is exactly what I think so many of us are looking for. People who want to dump IE at this stage of Chimera's development though should slow down and sleep on it. Chimera ocassionally quits/crashes, doesn't render some pages correctly, has trouble with java and plug in support and in short is lacking too many features which force one to keep another browser on the side. That said, when the final release is available, if the current release is an example of what's ahead than this is the browser Apple should include with the OS. [alert admin]

Mac2Phone 1.6 (Mac OS X)
DA and Logitec USB Microphone over a high speed cable modem connection. Perhaps I should give 3 stars just because it works and there are precious few options for voice over IP in the Mac World. But the Interface is one of the worst I've seen in years. Good: * works as advertised. I've been able to make local calls as well as out of state and out of country. * rates are pretty competetive with other VOIP networks. Problems: * Some latency issues with long distance calls and a few droped calls. * all phone numbers/logs are wiped clean everytime you restart the program. * Can't store phone numbers and you must dial them manually everytime you call. * application ocassionally unexpectedly quits in the middle of a call. (although I have also made hour long calls without a problem) * do something about that interface. [alert admin]
